My favorite scene from the series and possibly of any show ever. This show opened my eyes to how great fire fighters can be. This show managed to greatly blur the line between the censored/restricted style of cable shows and the gritty/dirty/trash-talking/raunchy content that can only be shown in subscription channel HBO shows. It makes you forget that there are those limitations on the language and sex by being rough and not drawing attention to anything other than how real some of the content
I believe this scene was based on the 2007 fire in the Bronx in which 8 children and 1 adult were killed when a space heater caught fire. It was a three family home and the people living there were an extended family from Mali in Africa. I remember people jumping out the windows onto the sidewalk and having to throw kids out the windows. It was found out that 22 people (incl 17 kids) were living in the building. It was horrific.
This video, with this particular song just knocks holes in my soul!!! I L O V E it so very much, even though it hurts!! XOXOXOXO
I love the Twilight Singers and I adore Denis Leary!!! I hate that the Rescue Me series is finished, it was an amazing show with great writing!! Rescue me was my favorite show and now i don't have any reason to turn the tv on anymore!! SUCKS!!! So long, Rescue Me, it was great while it lasted!!!
@loveorhateme7 the series isnt over just the season, the last season starts in summer sometime and ends around september 11th for the 10th anniversary of it, its really a perfect time to end the show then
I'm from NYC and I think they copied this from real life. There was a two family apartment fire, and two large families living in both. The man at the top of the house lost his wife and three/four children, and the man below was killed along with all of his children. One woman survived by jumping naked onto the concrete sidewalk and broke both her legs (but she lived.) It was in the Bronx about three years ago--brutal to see all the sheet covered children. It was started by a space heater.
i like how when the song starts to play the answering machine messages, they try to hide it with dispach calls over the radio. they also skip over the first message where the guys busts ass on the ground and starts laughing over the phone.
@imascab absolutely true!!! i had the good fortune to meet Denis Leary and he just happened to talk about the music that he likes and he mentioned Greg Dulli and the band. he has great taste in music and musicians!!! he's not only funny, he's brilliant!!!
God, I love this show. I spent all four years of high school watching Rescue Me; I remember the anticipation I had every week, waiting for each new episode. Now I own the first three seasons, and the next two are on my birthday wish list. It's the funniest, most evocative, most heartbreaking show I have ever seen and when it ends in 2011 I'm going to be a sad, sad guy. Tommy, Franco, Lou, Sean, Mike, Chief Reilly...best characters on television.
such a powerful and real show. Not afraid to be provocative or downright unsettling. Hopefully some of last seasons soap-ish stuff has been washed away by our season finale and the next will get back to the humor and the emotional/physical gutpunches.
this is probably the most emotional scene of all Seas4. I'm watching the complete Fourth right now on dvd and gonna get to see an encore of the 'Animal' episode where Gina Gershon guest stars.
everything about this show is excellent. from the editing of montages, to scene direction, the writers, producers, the actors, and everything else I didn't mention!!
yeah, all those kids were dead before they got there, but i like how tommy gives props to the rookie. watching this show, and i like to think of myself as a rather stiff upper lip dude, makes me cry, like balling out loud cry. one best drama and comedy shows not only on television but for all time. and they deal with so many issues you dont see on tv.....thanks peter tolan and leary....
sense tommy was with his father right next to him you would think he would try and get help. if that happened to my dad i would be freaking outO_O i love the show though
Thank you! That was true "Rescue Me"!! This show is awesome and this song was so fitting for that rescue turned out seven died, sadly all the children.
This is the most powerful scene that I've ever seen while watching "Rescue Me". I've watched every episode but none had ever had me so emotionally attached as this opening scene. One of only two episodes where I didn't laugh during the opening scene (the Riley incident a few weeks earlier was the other).
best part is 2:36 just love it , i think hes looking for a door but its like he jus looks at the fire

As if this clip plus the music didn't rip your heart out, the next scene is the guys being told that they pulled out kids that were already dead.
7 children.
This show is funny yet still knows how to rock to your core...
