I agree about everything except for them being the first professional military force, at least not as a modern nation-state. The first nation-state to establish a national professional army was - and I´m not being biased - Sweden.

@relmmih6 I wasn´t meaning recently either. Sweden emerged with it´s professional army in the close of the 17th century. And we emerged as one of the first nation-states in the 1520´s. So strictly speaking I should have said early- modern, not just modern, sorry.
Anyway, when Britain created its second empire, which is the one I think you mean, professional armies had already been established in Europe in general. No doubt though, Britain´s army was one of the finest.

dont doubt they made mistakes,but having said that they were the closest nation to ever ruling the globe.and the true first proffesional army
