For all you talking "inner deamons" and "illness"..lol Go back in your glass house and throw stones. You mean to tell me you havent been like this after one to many?? LOl Liars, all of you, I'd love to see video of you on your first 6 Tequlia shots,..futher more, "McLaughlin couldnt swing if he was dead " is dead on.
McLaughlin said something stupid in front of his father? Jaco is clearly nuts! He probably told his father that he was worried about him, would be my guess. Cocaine, is a hellava drug, as Dave Chappelle would say. I would've rather not have seen this and just know the man based on his legacy.
My respect for this man is not contingent that he refrain from drinking and swearing. This is tremendously valuable historical footage that should absolutely be preserved and studied by future jazz historians. Drunk or sober, he happens to make innumerable valid points, and his point of view is terribly important.
You little-bopeep sons of bitches who require a brightly polished halo on the guy can fuck right off as far as I'm concerned. Silly mother fuckers.
just was unwell but i bet there was nobody who could play that bass like him, reat legacy and maybe he sacrificed everything to be a 'great' which can often come at huge cost even to personal health.
The interviewer makes me very angry !! why? because Jaco, obviousely, falls apart during this video and the only thing the interviewer does is asking( bugging) jaco questions about jazz (!?!?). how one-track-minded an emotionless a man can be?
For fuck's sake, help him during his hard times. That goes for all the people in this video. Jaco had no true friends...
and everybody stop complaining!!!! im sure you would be disappointed to know about the true side of Jim Morrison, Jimi hendrix and such....this man was a friend of Jaco's!
his name was pronounced Jock-O correct? and great vids man it must have been a pleasure to be friends with such a energetic spirit such as Jaco....God Bless his soul R.I.P.
That isn't Word of Mouth in the background. Those are live recordings of his big band in Japan. They had just returned to the states from Japan and the recordings we are hearing on this video would eventually be released as the album, "Twins". The time frame is correct......sometime in 1982.
I think that this is from sometime in '82.He says to the guy "...you're 29 I'm 30". He turned 30 at the end of '81 right about the time he was finishing up the Word Of Mouth album, which is why he's playing it throughout the interview. I think he brought those people that are there with him to hear it. The downing the beer and then holding it up to the fan, shows how wasted he was. There's also the phone call there he tells someone "don't go to the musicians tent, come to my house. So Weird!
Christ, i knew jaco had his demons but i never saw this side of him. Its sad but the music he left is his legacy man, never feels nice to know your idols are human i suppose.
@baddaboomb Your idol ישוע or Ἰησοῦς is also a goddamn human!!!!! I don't see bad morality in this video, he's just energetic like people with ADHD or Tourettes and Aspergers.
I don't know which is most tearful: seeing by chance a part of a VPRO interview to John Frusciante when he was out of the peppers or staring at this Jaco (and hearing him talking for the very first time)...However they both are great artists and nobody will ever replace them... I guess there's no better language than music... Jaco human legend!!!!!!!
I have to credit you, jazzmanstore. There is very little footage of Jaco not on stage, and to be able to get inside his head like this can help people see with what he was dealing with. It sucks he ended up dead because of his problems, but he opened up the world to bass players around the globe. Also the part about John McLaughlin made me laugh :P.
i filmed it. I'm in it. I'm asking jaco the questions, when i could get him to sit still. I'm asking him about being in liberty city witch is the old black side of town in Miami, there were my riots there between blacks and white and Cuban police, some times whites would get off the wrong exit in liberty city and be killed after a riot, i was surprised jaco was in there but i shouldn't have been because any where there are black people he was there gleaning and learning.
every thing with him was an experience, especially when he brought all the white people to the black side of town to hear word of mouth band.
i called him at his house, the camera man was bugging me for weeks to call him, we musicians are only busy when we are on stage, the rest is just life.
yeah, i bet so, it is almost imposible for me to ignore jaco's condition, it seems that he was having a good time, wasn't he...?
and, i think that you met him, is it true all the myths that the people say about him, that he became a junky and all of those thinks that the people use to say about "famous" people...?
Take this shit down. This has no value, and only hurts the man's name and his family. He is obviously a very sick man. Do you really enjoy watching this? Even as insider gossip, there's no new value to this. I suppose there will always be people who like this stuff. Probably the same who enjoy videos of Abu Ghraib.
Please consider taking these off. This is not Jaco in the real sense. This is a very sick man on drugs not taking his meds for his bi-polar disorder. Please consider his family and his legacy. This is simply horrific and tragic.

If you're the guy asking the questions, then you must look back at this and be completely ashamed of your behaviour, because I would be. Jaco is clearly out of it, and anyone who's watched the whole video would see you attempting to manoeuvre him round to the camera to get your footage. I hope you didn't earn a penny from this, and for the sake of his family and his kids, you should have done the decent thing and destroyed it long ago.

Never could get into Jaco. Jeff Berlin is my favorite for jazz, rock, fusion style bass. John Deacon and Chris Squire for rock.
