While everyone else was just bashing the drums like monkeys, John Bonham was hitting harder than ANY of them, but made it look easy. Instead of just bashing away with arms flailing, he just used his wrists.
I saw Zeppelin live back in 1973 and again in 1979 in England (my father was stationed there for 2 years) when there 1979 world tour started. And I saw van halens 1978 and 1979 world tours I would relive van halens 78 and 79 world tours way before I would any of Zeppelins tours you can bet on that.
@EPI6fingers Page was at the hieght of his technical ability in 1971 also song wise they were much better on that tour than before.....he got sloppy later due to drugs etc (even tho I feel he was quite good at times later I think he was off the drugs on 75 tour) Van Halen is much more accurate live but Page did improvise as was more common back then .....his playing on tunes like Communication Breakdown and Celebration day in 1971 was his best stuff live...he never recreated such speed since

Ironically They debuted that yr in Belfast ( Only N Ireland gig ever .....where I am from) but the difference between the start of the tour and the end was astounding....also check out live at the beeb CD and with extended version of WHole lotta love the bootleg live at the paris Theatre....for an astounding Page Blues and rock n roll medley

This is one of my favorite 2nd tier LZ tracks (2nd tier LZ being among a normal bands best ever). EVH does an awesome take, maybe not quite as dirty / nasty as Jimmy's but still great. Bonham was the greatest rock drummer ever, nobody can compare (I'm sure Alex would agree). DLR was the cartoon Robert Plant, so I just ignore him.

He's a couple quavers too low. VH did not do cover all that well, he's singing half out of key. The style of Zep is far, far different than VH, they don't mix all that well. They were phenomenal doing their own stuff, VH. Leave it at that...

Includes music and analyzes the circumstances instead of the airs of connoisseurs because you listen to lesser-known musicians (I like a lot)

Eddie is always good but Roth is hit and miss, he butchers this one. Still, these guys were kids here, I would have loved to see Halen in their prime. Even the 84 tour would have been good.
V.H. played a concert at my high school in the spring of 77. I was 15 years old and couldn't understand why I had never heard of Eddie before. The next year they were signed to Warner Brothers and off and running and by the time I graduated they were international.
So cool to hear them cover Zep here even though Alex isn't exactly laying back like Bonzo did... but you can't have evrything.

Jimmy Page has a very blues rock grind style to his playing. He has a very sixties style of playing where he incorporates a lot of distortion and soloing. He is an extremely versatile player. EVH has a much more modern style of playing where he incorporates a lot of effects, taps and whammy bars. Jimmy Page has voiced his approval about Eddie's playing. Same goes for Eddie on Jimmy's playing. Both are true masters at what they do and both changed and continue to change the face of rock and roll

This is one of my favorite 2nd tier LZ tracks (2nd tier LZ being among a normal bands best ever). EVH does an awesome take, maybe not quite as dirty / nasty as Jimmy's but still great. Bonham was the greatest rock drummer ever, nobody can compare (I'm sure Alex would agree). DLR was the cartoon Robert Plant, so I just ignore him.

V.H. played a concert at my high school in the spring of 77. I was 15 years old and couldn't understand why I had never heard of Eddie before. The next year they were signed to Warner Brothers and off and running and by the time I graduated they were international.
