With the same ammo I doubt that a phonebook-backing (or clay etc.) will actually penetrate the IIIA , also with .44 mag there is hardly difference between FMJ and HP on soft armour (TIGHT woven fabric or shield) - just trauma reduced a lil´ bit I guess...
no "knife through butter effect" (only smaller even non AP calibers would benefit that way)
but yes extreme severe bruising regardless of fiber age, trauma plates are the way to go (polyethylene, titanium)
@janius777 Yes, I have since learned this. I picked up a couple of Tokarevs in 7.62x25mm and my next test will be carried out with this calibur when I get around to it. I'm sure we can all forsee what will happen there...
Supposing no-steelcore bullets (illegal) - with 7,62mm still velocity is key: 1500 feet/s - excsessing 1600 feet/second should definately do the job on old vest
if using small (diameter) bullets that don´t deform at all high velocity isn´t even needed -just look up this puppy: russian KGB pocket pistol PSM in 5,45x18mm - bi-metal spitzer bullet (also made in AP version) about 315 m/s: penetrating OVER 40 layers of kevlar (more than IIIa) + thick phonebook; NO mushroom, deforming !!
@janius777 Thankfully steel core surplus ammo is legal in my country, so if this video ever gets made, it will feature it. I'm expecting to get my crate sometime late fall, there is a bit of a waiting list. I want to cut a panel in half and shoot one side with the regular lead 7.62 and the steel core surplus ammo just to compare. I doubt either will fail though.
@Gallant0 Nice, I have never seen anyone shoot a .44 magnum so effortlessly. Do you have some nice pachmayr grips or something? .44s are not my favorite guns to shoot, but I have only played with wooden-handled ones.
@alexthebomb542 it's a factory grip, but it's rubber. I learned how to shoot revolvers with the .460, so the .44 is a step down which makes things easier.
I mostly picked it up because it's a great gun to warm up with at the range. Makes the 9mm feel like a toy after, and is a lot more affordable than the .460 in terms of ammo. Firing it quickly with one hand will leave you a bit sore though...
gotta have a pointed nose bro....or close....prefer to be a pointed though
