Actually the t2i only has higher mpx and full Hd video. The D90 takes better pics merely because of its much higher dynamic range, much better high ISO, and likelihood to be used with high end nikkor glass and not crap kit lenses. 90% of the D90 users I know are pros who use it as a backup or "danger camera". I have yet to meet a pro who has tried the t2i as it has controls which are more useful to soccer moms...

I agree, D90 outperforms the 50D by a mile in terms of IQ, but for a sports shooter, the conditions of a well lit stadium of any form, attractive 50D's 6.3 fps, 15MP resolution, better weathersealed body tends to lead people towards it.

but i'd still pick a D90 (and i'm a native canon user).

Both Camera share many similarities, and it honestly depends on the photographer on which suits them best. I shoot with the Canon 50D and I have shot with the D90 as well, I prefer the 50D mainly because of the image quality is better than of the D90, but the Video Mode in the D90 is absolutely spectacular. But again it all depends on the photographer.

If you are a first time DSLR buyer, i do not suggest going for camera's at that level, but actually purchasing say a Canon XTi or a Nikon D40. I shot with the Nike D90 for 9 Months, and overall it was a great experience, but I found myself enjoying the Canon 50D much more, and was more satisfied with the result of the pictures.

Like the comment below this it is you that takes the pic I would go for the Nikon because it is easier to use that is my opinion and it fits better in my hand and another thing the sensor in the Canon has 1.6 crop and the Nikon has 1.5 so less space for more pixels with the canon that is another reason I would go with the Nikon o and lets not get started about the lens issue

I have a Nikon and I am loving that camera.

I have heard that Canon cameras are good but the standard lenses that come in the Nikon pack are better than the ones Canon provides. If you plan to invest in expensive lenses, then Canon would be the choice.

I would recommend a Nikon if you are just beginning on a DSLR.

Really. If we look behind the point where we stop at "CAAANOOOON!!!" or "NIIIKOOON!!!" shouting. We can acctually look at performance. 50D might have some positive fronts, but the pictures i'w seen with kit-lenses has shown that D90 has an advantage in most images. This might be because of Nikons lenses however.

And, this is acctually DSLR, not a simple camera. If you have Canon lenses, go get the Canon. And the other way around.
