I will also justify that in this particular scene Deborah had a double. I have read both of her biographies and both said she had a double do the scene.
There was some buzz about this at the time because it was the second time working together for Burt Lancaster & Kerr
since "From Here to Eternity"
Talking of nude scenes, Kerr shows a lot of skin in the "Sundowners" a movie from the 50's about the australian outback-she's gorgeous in it-there's a famous shower scene- maybe LorreB could find
Correction, they did another movie together between 'Eternity' and 'The Gypsy Moths' , It is called ' Separate Tables' 1958 . along with David Niven, Rita Hayworth, Gladys Cooper and several more well known actors, I recommend it to anyone who wants to see an interesting character study in a forgotten masterpiece in my opinion!
I recently saw this film on TCM and I was very surprised to see Deborah Kerr naked. But I thought the film and her part required it. After all she has always exuded an enigmatic kind of sexuality, both poised like a finishing school mistress and rolling passionately on the beach with Burt. They are superb together and she could have gone on and on for ever, for she is one of the greatest actresses and the one with the subtlest sex appeal ever on screen. Unforgettable and truly, truly missed.
"In 1969, pressure of competition from younger, upcoming actresses made her agree to appear nude in John Frankenheimer's The Gypsy Moths,[11] the only nude scene in Kerr's career. Concern about the parts being offered to her, as well as the increasing amount of nudity in films in general, led her to abandon film work at the end of the 1960s in favour of television and theatre work"
I love the lighting, the music, and the color in this clip. The exterior shot of the house as the storm hits is very powerful. I personally think this is the best sequence of the film. Thanks for posting it! It's lovely.
In the 1960s and '70s, she turned down cameos in the all-star disaster films then in vogue. She also voiced disdain for the public appetite for gratuitous on-screen nudity. A stand-in did her nude scene with Lancaster in John Frankenheimer's skydiving drama "The Gypsy Moths" (1969).
@Bergman90 OK let me settle this you need an expert!!! It is her and it isn't she says so in her biography. There is a full body stand in and the head shot was her and the end shot of her all covered up by clever lighting is her. THat is why she did the scene because it was crafted to her comfort level and contract. Also burt did not want her to do the full shots he protected her and fought with her. After all they did have a thing for each other 13 years before in From Here to Eternity.
Deborah Kerr did not do the nude scene. She wouldn't do it because she didn't like the way the public had such a gratuitous appetite 4 the like. I admire her 4 that. Truly gr8 actress. She will b sorely missed. R.I.P, dear lady.
I must say I was somewhat suprised by the explicit nudity in this scene because Ms. Kerr is from the golden age of Hollywood. However, she carried it off with the class and dignity that is synonymous with her name. A truely gifted actress!
@pinkchampaneandroses but she DID do the scene....?

The longshot may not be her but I believe the other part of the scene is, unless they hired someone with her EXACT face.

I think it's totally cool that she didn't do this scene. It just shows what a true lady she was!

Just WUNDERBAR.. (Although it feels awkward to watch such a scene here on youtube - it is far to intimate for such a public place.)
