  • I think he was right when he said,"fastest growing project" Because that's what it basically is, a companies project.

  • 0:24 B Roll??

  • Very well said and explained!

  • this is a very informative video about advertising. It shows how advertising is made for us consumer to change our view of the product and buy it immediately without analyzing whether we really need it or not.

  • the tupperware party is one of the stupidest things i have ever heard of

  • kinda stating the obvious

  • i love phil zimbardo

  • Today at cientific philosophy class we learned 3 types of fallacy: The group acceptance, the authority fallacy and the popularity fallacy ( excuse my english since I`m a spanish speaker) So... Advertysing is about fallacies!!! WOW!!!

  • 1991? 92? looks like it. or 90.

  • I love the way this guy speaks. Very clear, simple, and soft-spoken! Has me sold. :P

  • wait... maybe its e.t.'s brother. seriosly, very intelligent man

  • Lol wikipedia

  • Southeast Asia's Leading e-MarketPlace

We offer the best advertising tools at an affordable price!

    wwwWorldadsListcom

  • Advertising persuades, it does not mind control. You have control over what you want to buy, advertising is giving you information or an emotion to connect to a product in a vast sea of products. If you are the type of person that conforms to social pressures and need the latest things, that's your problem, but for small and big businesses it is essential for them to make money.

  • of restraint all employees showed, I know we wanted to tar & feather him. I don't think they made their goal that day

  • love that he mentioned "The United Way" , we had a visit from TUW in the cafeteria at work {attendence required}. about 200 or so employees, about 4 or 5 TUW rep's giving their pitch ,one man who was identified as that particular branches head honcho was about 32/35 years old, 50$ haircut, thousand dollar suit and 300$ shoes, Spoke like he was from an Ivy League school, a co-worker asked him? what other work have you done besides fund raise for TUW? .."None" he replied. I am proud of the level

  • the real 'deception' isn't the advertising, but in psychologists feigning indignation knowing full well the origins of their field! cf Adam Curtis, "Century of the Self" right here on YouTube (urls not allowed, but a search will find part 1)

  • Cool

  • Like this if you think Zimbardo is the creepiest guy on the planet.

  • Cialdini's book is awesome. Read it.

  • MIND CONTROL!!!!!

  • I love when people think they are smarter than the people who study this stuff as their career and think they are not conditioned by society. Even as "aware" as I am, I am still a product of the system.

  • Its basicly just trying to tell you you're part of that group and that its normal to have that product when in this group

  • its all propaganda. its not the product that counts its the sales pitch, you could be selling Ice cubes, war or revolution, it matters not, if you have a good line of bullshit people will buy it. its not the "advertising" that is the issue its the psychology of the human mind that we've come to understand and exploit. believe it or not, that is progress.

  • upskirt at 3:06

  • he looks like harrison ford, that robert guy

  • booooooo...

  • haha he fucked up!

  • Cialdini was a pioneer. Obviously this video is old, but what's fascinating is recent neurological findings back up many of Cialdini's marketing principles. Good stuff.

  • over the year of studying nothing else but myself as an individual thinker, I'm fully surprised that my task in this life is nothing else but to understand the way I think, react toward actions and events and the way I feel over things are attracted to me!!!!! This is funny, it seems that I'm an alien living an a moving device is no mine and sometimes it gets out of control. Do I need professional help?

  • I'm conducting a social experiment. Check out the funny facial profiler on my page.

  • Cialdini wrote an excellent book called Influence where he goes into detail about all of these techniques. Anyone in management, teaching, or any type of leadership position should be aware of these techniques. It also helps you defend yourself against being manipulated by them.

  • That dude had a cool voice, lol

  • all advertising is mind abuse

  • @shine350 if you love poetry you will love this poem. Search" IS the Cross Christian" It will blow your mind !!!!!!!!!!! If you are Deep are you?

  • I HATE advertisers, they have these bug things that they attach to your computer to track what you look at on the internet and then they sell that info to other companies and they make an ad trying to get you to buy something like the other day: i was looking for an online tutor for math, so i go to Sylvan but it's too expensive, then the next day on every sing page i go on theres an ad that says "Save $100 on a Sylvan Math program", I'm like dude WTF!! Fucking advertisers piss me off!

  • this is horrible! first time to know such thing! i'm studying marketing, they might teach us such thing :D!! i really got shocked by this news

  • @MrFoChizzel - those "bugs" you mention might also be referred to as cookies. companies use these to determine your browsing habits and then they determine which products to advertise to you.

  • @IssoPro Do you know how I can remove them?

  • @MrFoChizzel - there is a number of ways to remove cookies and to prevent ads from displaying on your browser. if you use firefox, go to their website and look for the add on called "ad-blocker" they are all free.

  • i would also recommend cleaning your temporary internet files/internet cache/browsing history once a day or you can use private browsing so all of that stuff is deleted each time you close your browser. try using a program called "spybot search and destroy" to clean out spyware every 1-3 days. that might help out some.

  • haha Shut up, Larry Bird! You're white!

  • Advertising tends to have a negative impact on me. I tend to specifically avoid products that are over-advertised... except products that are really good, and stand out from all the rest - like the Dyson. I don't know why I do this... guess it's teenage rebellion or something along those lines XD

  • The Dyson vacuum was actually a terrible product. You failed at failing to be indoctrinated.

  • It is actually very good, I own one :p it's really good compared to the old Samsung (or Panasonic) or something I owned in my old house.

  • doesn't this scientist look like Harrison Ford?

  • OUT OF MY WAY EVERYONE.... I MUST GO BUY SOMETHING NOW... outta my way!!!! SOMETHING PLASTIC...SOMETHING THAT WILL MAKE ME FEEL GRRRRRRREAT!!

    WHAT A LOAD OF SHIT.

    TV IS ALMOST TOTALLY SHIT!

DONT LET THE BASTARDOS WASH YOUR BRAIN !!

On a lighter note though... I cant find my socks.

  • @Tbaldwin1971 loved your comment!

  • i tried to pay attention but i can't stop hearing an evil whisper echoeing arund the white walls as the green eyed man rambles great stuff

  • When it is all said and done, you still have a choice to use the product. Advertisers can put as much smoke and mirrors as they want, but ultimately it is your decision to buy it.

  • true that if I see a commercial about something I just go and buy from there competitors or buy a generic brand or something LOLZ

  • True but there's a deeper subconscious layer behind advertising. If you ever read up on Edward Bernays, you'll get a bigger and better picture of advertising.

  • I will have to check him out, another video to watch on advertising is the Frontline: "The Persuaders".

  • who's Edward Bernays

  • @shabbooo7 - Edward Bernays is the father of the PR. He used the techniques of his uncle (Sigmund Freud) to manipulate public opinion using the subconscious.

  • Saying that is exactly what they expect of us, it is so subtle , and so accumalitive, that we do not notice it.

    Brainwashing is about repeating, progressively.

  • There is some "brainwashing" to an extent, good example is a Hoover Vac for kids and Barbie Credit Cards.

But the thing with that is that we can turn off the TV or not buy that particular item. "The Persuaders" video makes the case that it is actually getting harder for advertisers to reach customers, due to their over "brainwashing".

  • "Influence professionals", LOL. They are assholes, pure and simple. Conning the stupid, creating even more rampant consummerism and waste. And the Tupperware party example: fucking *disgraceful* to use your friendship with someone as a means to sell them anything. That's coercion.

  • I ve read his book :).

  • OMG I recognized that voice!!!!!

Took a AP Psych 101 and watched Phillip Zimbardo videos last year can't believe we skipped the Social Reality tape

P.S. My psych teacher even met Zimbardo and had the picture to prove it :)

  • This video was a nice flashback for me. When I was in high school, we'd watch a video in AP Psychology narrated by Phillip Zimbardo at least once per week. Thank you for that trip down memory lane, Buddha7575!

  • turn off your tv its all lies to make you feel like your not worthy or scare you into spending money and giving up your freedom

  • the availability principle sounds like what they might be doing with gasoline in order to make us pay any price they set because of the scarcity when in reality theres still plenty of petroleum.

    shit you never know dont

  • Profit margins for most retailers is about 5%. Increase usual sales by 10% is therefore a big deal....so if a sales technique only works with a few individuals they will still use it because it makes a difference. Fear tactics work well to boost sales.

  • Are you are kid??? SO naive... 5% profit margin??? Why would they bother...money better left in the bank and accrued interest.

It's way way way way way way way more than 5%.

I agree with you on one point... fear is a great tactic, it even got USA to change mind about war on Iraq after 9/11. I dont care who it was staged by all i know is the fact that the opinion polls changed after that day.

  • That was a gay ass laugh by magic, bird and the doc; but that's so classic to see the tree of them together in an ad.

Still a corny ass ad though.

  • ahhaha Magic is a fool.hah

  • Now there's new ad with Magic, Dr. Jay, and Charles Barkley. It's better than this one from back in the day.

  • The American dream is what pushes sales and through this materialism it is easy to take advantage of poeples emotion using phsycology...There is no "tricks" just the manipulation of ones endorphins...American society has been brainwashed to think that buying the "wants," even if it is prioritized over the "needs" may make oneself happier through the acceptance or "fitting in."

  • HEAR HEAR!!! well said.

  • Interesting, but it's psych101

  • just think of HD tv! do we really need it? we are told that we do...and me and my boyfriend, broke students (i a psychology student!) spent 1000 euro on a widescreen sony tv. its great, but we're in debt now still, and all cos we were brainwashed. i gonna sue sony.

  • 1000 fucking euro? daaaaaammmmmnnnnn

  • lol i bought a 42" Plasma HD for 600€

  • I personally cannot stand the dirty tricks used in advertising nowadays, there is not a single ad i've seen that doesn't include the next line: "buy NOW" Its just too... i don't know i like to think of it as rude.. its like they are trying to say "JUST $@$@# BUY IT DAMNIT!"

  • 1:00 he needs book ends.

  • I had learned all this in my psycho class but somehow I forgot it all till I watched this video --> its like eventhough we know all those tricks in the back of our mind, its hard to be aware of them when they are being used tho

  • Awareness is the key to live a happy life. It`s complete, when you stop taking "yourself" as the point of reverence.

Starting being aware of how you treat yourself (body, mind, soul) is the first step to this goal.

  • hey u really a buddist?

  • @Buddha7575 Enlightenment is the key to final happiness

  • @diept Yes. Things like that can be already known by us but we do not use it and practise it so that is why we forget. It is great to use psychology to enhance ourselves further.

  • @diept really interesting confession! You say you have kind of gone through all this in classes but then forget.

So what we need to understand is how to keep seeing through this BS. Have you seen the youtube video Psywar--the battle is for your mind ? where you see propaganda used on a much larger scale?

  • old skoooooool

  • He's a psychologist.

  • I base my overstanding of truth on the ancient and universal principles of MA'AT

    I read this everyday.

    1) The Principle of Psycho kinesis

"MIND is, thought; the universe is a mental creation. This first great Principle embodies the idea that "All is Mind."

I accidently posted #2 twice (my mistake below)

  • I base my overstanding of truth on the ancient and universal principles of MA'AT

    1) The Principle of Correspondence

"As above, so below; as below, so above." This Principle embodies the idea that there is always a correspondence or correlation between the laws and phenomena of the various levels of being and life.

This aphorism, "As above, so below; as below, so above," gives one the means of solving many a mysterious paradox and hidden secrets of nature.

  • 2) The Principle of Correspondence

"As above, so below; as below, so above." This Principle embodies the idea that there is always a correspondence or correlation between the laws and phenomena of the various levels of being and life.

    3) The Principle of Vibration

"Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates." This Principle embodies the idea that everything is in motion; everything vibrates; nothing is at rest; facts which science now endorses.

  • 4) The Principle of Opposition

"Everything is dual; everything has an opposing point; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree."

    5) The Principle of Rhythm

"Everything flows out and in; everything has its season; all things rise and fall; the pendulum swing expresses itself in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates."

  • 6) The Principle of Cause and Effect

"Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is just a name for Law not recognized; there are many fields of causation, but nothing escapes the Law of Destiny

    7) The Principle of Gender

"Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; Gender manifests on all levels."

  • The "Avertising" industry is the DECEPTION of life! This is a very immoral profession.

    PS

The psychology profession birthed this ABOMINATION!

  • Have you thought this through? Well, what then is "the truth"?

  • @foxxx2001 No, "Advertising" isn't an immoral profession. Some practitioners are immoral, yes, but not the profession.

  • @foxxx2001 its not all evil how do you think this vid was made

  • @foxxx2001 you are absolutely wrong. Think again

  • God, i hate advertising.

  • 17.000 TH :D:D:D:D:D !!!!

  • Great video. This could be very useful for my Psychology A Level. Thanks :-).

  • Internet Marketing in a nutshell.

  • Internet marketing uses a much larger array of techniques, including technological instead of just psychological.

  • These are only a few tricks.

  • It's so funny, this 3 minute speech by Cialdini is like a 200-page sum up of my social psych textbook. That's awesome (too bad I couldn't have seen this 2 months ago!)

  • I really like this video, I think it's very interesting. I'm doing a school project and this video would be very beneficial so first would it be okay if i used it in my presentation? second, "You Tube" is not availible on school computers so I was wondering if there was a way I could burn it onto a CD and watch it from there?

PLEASE get back to me ASAP!

  • If you use the Firefoy Browser, there is a Plugin called Download Helper. You can download the youtube Videos with that. The VLC Player for example can play those files. I am not sure if there is any freeware to convert the Format, but you can google it.

  • Cialdini, so good. I tried to see him when he came to Orange County, but couldn't miss class. But his book Influence is great, I highly recommend it.
