Oh men, THAT JINGLE! Nothing in the world like it. Used to listen to Timmy Regisford, chuck Chillout and (king) George Williams), Jonathan Donker, the basement party and all the shows and each one of them would time to time insert the jingle W B L S.
Memories what memories, I remember when WBLS FM was a spin off on WLIB AM in New York City in 1971, Frankie Crocker was already a star on WWRL 1600 AM so when Inner City Broadcasting ( which owned WLIB AM ) ,lured him away to a new venture called FM radio,it was a coup when Crocker came on and he always signed off on the air playing the Stylistics "People Make The World Go Round" , this was years BEFORE the more memorable "There I Go,There I Go, There I Go Again, THOSE WERE THE DAYS - NIGHTS !
Yep! WBLS was front and center when it came to the early days of disco. They played all that Salsoul Orchestra, and First Choice, and Cerrone, and Love & Kisses, and Donna Summer, and Gloria Gaynor - - - long before everyone else did.
WBLS was great during the summer of 1977. They played many great disco songs. Everyone listen to BLS before hitting the clubs. In 1978, they even played Euro-disco on WBLS, songs like "Come into my heart" and music by the disco group Love * Kisses.
WBLS should do a documentary of its history along with a book. Someone should write a book about the Chief Rocker. If no one else does, maybe I will :-)
WBLS should play some of Frankie Crockers old shows when BLS was in it's hayday. I"m sorry but Frankie Crocker made WBLS famous back in the day and he played all types of music. (Agree totally!!!)

I agree 100% - I wonder if WBLS kept all of those historic recordings. - They should dedicated at least one hour a week or weekend to those old 70's recordings with Frankie Crocker. Come on, these are the most talented Radio personality that created WBLS.
Thirty years after the Frankie Crocker era at WBLS, i decided to pay tribute to WBLS with a classic-soul show on WRUV-FM, the student-run station at the University of Vermont with a
I remember that there was a longer WBLS Jingle, It went something like: WBLS In New York 107.5 in Stereo ( With an Echo at the end) - Can someone post this Please???
@FrankiexNYC You're right. At first there was an aural collage (mix) separated on different speakers with the names of the different artists played on the station; then it was "All happening now on WBLS, the total Black Experience in Sound, 107.5, in stereo-o-o-o-o-o...." Later it became "..the total experience in sound..." Great memeories. I hope the airchecks come through. Currently, BLS has clips of interviews of Frankie with JB and Michael.
Yes, Streamline09! Damn, I wish someone had that so I could hear it again...it was the most awesome jingle EVER. I especially loved that the W-B-L-S came through all four speakers (separately) in stereo...too cool!
Wow frankie crocker was the man & hearing his voice seems to bring me back into time when music & people had substance & less drama. Never understood the magnitude of this man until years later. I have material to compare to this man. Wow no comparison @ all. The dj & music of today is garabge & makes my ears bleed. The chief rocker is most likely turning over in his grave. RIP... MY BROTHER YOU HAVE SET A PATH TO FOLLOW...Most Dj's of today have taken the short cut & it shows.... No talent
Man To this day I still Love that W B L S call! I have save an old cassette tape that had some music back in 1983, the last year it had that unforgettable jingle. They need to reprise that jingle when they play Sunday Morning Classics
If It Weren't 4 Frankie Crocker BLS Wouldn't Have Gone Into Hip-Hop Huh?
