It's not just the size, it's the shape. Just imagine yourself living in a small round room for years! The shape of a rectangle is, for some reason, easier for the eye to deal with. Living in a bowl may affect the animal's sanity. Same goes with the round bird cages. The bowls have also smaller volume and the necessary oxidizing agents don't fit them. People use bowls just because they're prettier. "Pretty" should not be a justification for animal cruelty.

Agreed. I have never seen a bowl like that actually. Maybe it was just a temporary bowl for the fish. I hope. All captive fish in tanks/bowls should have filter systems. The water should also be treated with water conditioner. If that water was, which it should be, that probably wouldn't be so great for the cat. Meh.

As long as we don't know for sure, it's better that you have the proper equipment if you'd like to have a fish as a pet. Not all pet owners care about their animals, but I'd like to see someone thinking about having an aquarium and reading this that a bowl is maybe not so good idea.
