@cfronck Probably because he had written his speech beforehand and they KNEW when it was ending and were aiming for some kind of dramatic effect-I still found it annoying too

What an absolutely gracious speech. Charming and deserved. So many shows that perhaps do not have the psychological lyrics of Sondheim or sweeping scored of Lloyd Webber, but always promises joy, laughter, sentiment, tears and a great finale. Bravo!

Bravo Jerry Herman! I wish my father could have felt comfortable to say, "I am what I am." Hopefully my children will grow up in a world where they are judged by how much they loved not whom.

I saw street performers recently who did 'I am what I am' from the perspective of a straight teenager who is judged, riciculed and disparaged for being straight!!! It was amazing and sparked a lot of debate and self-evaluation - Jerry's legacy lives on!!!

I met Jerry outside of a custom mens shop on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Just as wonderful and gracious in person as he is here!
