It's so disheartening to know some Uk teens are such violent yobs.
You made some brilliant points in this video and I agree 100% with most of it.
Though it always irritates me when the government and parents blame the "lack of things for teens to do" for the rise of crime. Young people can always make find things to do, I'm sure the crime rate was ALOT lower before they even things like youth centers when they had shit all to do but play stick and ball lol ...
Best thing to do if someone whips out a blade is to find a sharp exit fast then let your would be attacker know through word of mouth that your old skool and that youll break his face queensbury rules anytime then see how brave these knife carrying pricks are.
I think the UK should allow honest citizens to arm themselves. This would make the criminals think twice about trying to take advantage of somebody just minding their own business.
I totally agree not only does it allow us to protect ourselves from criminals but also our own state and or other invading forces.
"Democracy... while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide".
I share said experience, my own personal theory is that all democracies eventually become ochlocracies which inevitably lead to the rise of a popularist government who impose more and more draconion laws until they are nothing more than a elected dictatorship (remind you of anywhere).
Personally i think everyone is missing the point, humans are preditors and as preditors we kill things not just to eat but for peasure it is part of our genetics ,just look at monkeys they will kill ther own kind just for the enjoyment. So in conclusion taking away knifes wont solve the problem people will find other weapons to use.
it is in our nature to kill as soon as people realise this and accept we are as species a bunch of irrational killing machines the better.
no it is not but using annecdotes to prove a point is a popularist method of arguement to become better people we must understand our flaws and look at the bigger picture. People will ALWAYS kill each other it is in our nature (wether that is right or not is a different arguement) so taking away guns knifes etc wont solve the problem only shift the weapon of choice.
maybe the government shouldn't be so scared of upsetting people and punish people who have knives and or are be ASBO to a community because it is scum like that, that ruins the country.
i say bring on the death penalty and Life sentences that actually mean life sentences not just 4 years then parole!
More money needs to pumped into inner city schools as they get less money than there rural or more prosperous schools & they have to bribe the good teachers to even work there.
Parenting is another issue if there parents could discpiline there kids better this wouldn't be happening. A good smack at a young age is fine & it installs discipline.
The problem in this country people are too quick too shout give them longer sentance in prison but that won't do sh*t. it's like cutting the top of a weed off as the root of the problem will still be there, e.i you take one guy off the streets another one will take their place in no time to take his place.
How can the government fix the problem of knife crime if they are shutting these community groups down? they should be pumping more money in not taking it away.
I dont dismiss your idea of giving youngsters more stuff to do, but I keep stressing this and cannot stress it enough. Where has all the disapline gone from schools and from home? Im 22 and I was always in a way, scared into thinking that if I did bad ie, break the law or do the wrong thing, then I will face the consequences and those consequences will be tough! Kids can get away with so much these days, and are given the excuse of "poor youngster with nothing to do". we need to get respect back
True. But one thing I've noticed dealing with families in my community is parents not showing any patients. They yell and scream at there kids all the time over small things so when the kids do something genuinly wrong they don't see any punishment, just the usual. Then on the other end of the spectrum theres parents that refuse to believe there kids are doing anything wrong. Parenting has gotten quite poor in my opinion.
I used to live in England and i come back once a year to see family and damn things are pretty bad now, the government needs to stop knife crime, RIGHT NOW.
I'm a UK boy myself. I'm thinking of doing my own video on knife crime, which is quite similiar to what your saying. But it reflects more on what should be done, and my personal feelings.
Sorry about your bro mate. I'd be horrifed if it was my brother.
Nice vid, sory to hear about your brother mate. Knife crime needs to be stopped right now because it's getting beyond stupid. I think there should be police on every street corner.
i wouldn't say that knife crime is a recent problem, it has always been here in london, but only now the media are (thankfuly) taking notice of it. i am lucky that i have not had someone close to me affected by it, but that is only a matter of time. sorry to hear about your bro.
Right knife crime, how do you stop it? Put those knife detector things in every entrance to a public building/vehicle. If their caught with a knife 1 year minimum in jail/juvenile prison. If they actually stab someone they should be forced to pay £5000 to the family and 15 years minimum in jail/juvenile prison.
I think all teens should. Let bring back National Service. If they want to fight, let them fight for our country, if they want to use a knife, let them go hand to hand with the enemy with a beyonet. If they want to use guns, stick them in a fire fight where they WILL be fired back at! Ive served my time for my Queen and country and it has made me a real man. I have respect and disapline. Ive seen some horrible sights and I wish these Yobs could see them too, nothing else will give you respect.
I don't totaly agree. It will teach some respect and disapline but Matti Juhani Saari was in the military and he still went and shot up a school in Finland. I also know a few ex-military service men who have had trouble living civilian life and have been in trouble with the law many times. I also don't believe National Service is quite backwards and should be something people choose to pursue or not instead of being mandatory.
There are many that would agree with you. I myself would too. No its not going to sort everyone out but if it is used right it might have a big impact on it. The government probably never will bring it back but I think it wouldnt hurt to meet them half way. Young offenders should spend a certain amount of time in military training. Possibly with the correct rules but that might be going a bit to far with the current amount of human rights in this country.
Isn't that just going to turn them into proper killing machines? I say make it more difficult to get a hold of a knife, do a background check etc before a knife can be sold. Knifes are just as, or even more dangerous than a gun in certain situations, so similar respect should be given to the brilliant weapon that it is.
If you make it tougher to buy knives people can just buy kitchen knives. Everyone has atleast 5 knives in their kitchen. sounds silly but a normal kitchen knife can be just as deadly.
Make kids of school age spend a day in the A&E dept of a hospital to see what it is like when people are admited with stab wounds and or victims of car accidents due to car theft,It may deter some of them.
I wonder the difference between Australia and UK in the whole knife crime... and i totally agree that video games dont influence why people carry knifes.. great work barry!
Yea man i agree wit ur comments about the computers etc... I think its stupid that Gordon Brown is bringing in "Cigarette Style Health Warnings" on video games.
jeeze. thats a really sad story about your brother.
you know i'm from the states, but honestly, the crime rate has gone up a LOT in the past few years in philadelphia. it's insane that these kids don't have a place to go and have to resort to being in gangs for entertainment. it's honestly ludicrous.
Councils over here in Australia are trying to close Youth hangouts and groups - the kids will automatically go out onto the street and turn to violence. Leisure centers are crucial!!! Kids need to be occupied, not bored. Boredom turns to alcohol, drugs & violence.
It's sad to hear..sorry bout your brother. Here in the states its more guns and shootings. Most everything here with gangs is drug related. The problem is even spreading from the inner cities to the suburban areas which is kinda sad. I think the gov. like u said needs to invest more time and effort in helping young kids grow up to be good adults. Whatever they do can help. One on one guidance. Or just creating activities and hobbies for kids. And here in the states trying to lower poverty rates.
In America we don't have those issues...but we do deal with gun crime due to the legality and availability of them.
I'm surprised at the rate of knife crimes going up considering the fact that most guns are banned in the UK. I honestly thing anyone who solves an issue with a gun or knife is a coward and should be locked up.
I TOTALLY agree with you about 'the upbringing' - thats the problem that needs to be solved. I love violent video games / movies and I don't go around stabbing people.
coming back to how we can try and stop knift crime, there is only so much that the goverment and police can do they have to have work from the gang members them sef to try and cut this out totally they need more people to come forward but i cant see that one happening as they will be to scared just in case they are the next one to be stabbed
i have been stabbed my self it was when i was about 13 i had got into a fight with a couple of kids in school due to them picking on me mate and i got stabbed in the arm i didnt know that i had been stabbed until i saw all the blood on my shirt,
I live in London my self the east tho so we havent had much knifting up here but its only a matter of time before it comes to this side of the river and it will just kill London as the a great place to live and for me living here for 22 years thats just going be one of the worst days in UK history,
Biggest thing that is sad about this knift shit happening is that the gangs dont see anythink wrong with what they are doing, You say things about helping the youngest Barry but the thing is when they do shit for them they just get it throw back in there face like they make football pitches for kids and kids just mess it all up, they have youth clubs where they have snooker tables and tvs and dvd players and all that and the kids just nick the shit all burn it down,
Great video Barry, sorry to hear about your brother but it is interesting to hear a first hand account. I've never met anyone who has been involved in this type of crime. We have such low crime rates on all counts round here . When I lived in London in the early 90's knife crime this was never the issue it is today. What's the answer? difficult, more facilities for kids?, educating parents and holding them more accountable for their kids? Stiffer more appropriate sentances?
They are really difficult questions. Its somehow a bit difficult to find the correct answer to the whole issue. I agree with you Rich that I lived in London a while ago and Knife crime was about to come up when I left London.
I left a similar response for charlie that said that maybe the government should explore the emeergency call boxes. On some school campuses in the US I've seen them. They are basically just a button or phone on a lamp that is tied right to the police. I'm not sure if this would be the best solution since it can be abused. If you are caught abusing it you get fined though.
My hamster when i was 8 after she got stabbed by a mental escapee from this asylum down my road.... though i guess that doesnt match as the chavs that stab people now are probably perfectly sane. I've never told anyone this bar like 1 or 2 people.. i'll miss pinky...
I disagree about corporal punishment, violence is a product of society and when you "fight fire with fire" it only escalates, if cops bust kids and they get corporal punishment then the kids might react violently in turn and stab a cop next time etc... I think you're right on about community centers and investing in the youth. Free activities especially so that those most at risk can afford to participate. I bet drug use and other ails would decline too. Well put mate, cheers.
My brother once were working at McDonalds when he were my age, 18 - a guy come in just before he was closing and shouted and screamed.. 'I've been stabbed, please help me!' my brother rushed to help him and later on that evening he died in hospital. :(

I had a thought about corporal punishment and it doesn't seem to be the best option.

Sorry to hear about your brother.
My brother once were working at McDonalds when he were my age, 18 - a guy come in just before he was closing and shouted and screamed.. 'I've been stabbed, please help me!' my brother rushed to help him and later on that evening he died in hospital. :(
