Kids cry this hard sometimes when they don't get some candy the see while at the supermarket. Would you go "Omg, give her that candy IMMEDIATELY you cruel mother. The child is experiencing no harm what-so-ever. Children this age don't always "only cry due severe and permanent emotional trauma from not being picked up immediately at the first sign of disliking something." She's doing this thing kids do called learning. I'm sure she'll be fine in 10 minutes after seeing the shadow never hurt her.
