I call it a switch, but yes, it's a gate.

Viewed from above, it's shaped like a wide V. Actually more like \/| and the | on the right kicks the next marble off the track.

im going to make one i just need some popcicle sticks... anyways, ive been making ideas for switches but im not really sure if they'll work. i like your switches but im not exactly sure how they work

Basically the switch directs the marble one way, while the weight of the marble pushes the switch causing the switch to rotate so the next time the marble is directed another way.

Some of the switches on mine took a long time to design and build, so give yourself time to think about it.. :-)
