The dewlap is common to Anolis species. It can vary in color but is usually a combination of reds, yellows, orange.
They display it as a means of communication. When you see the head bob & dewlap display - look for another male anole nearby- these guys are very territorial.
You'll also see this behavior after the successful capture and swallowing of a meal.
At the Anole Symposium in Boston last year biologists indicated there is still much unknown about why this display mechanism is used.
do all anoles have that red thing on their neck? and can you keep like 6 of them in a 10 gallon tank? or whats the max you should keep in a ten gallon? and dont say one because i know its not one.
This guy was not caught. He was filmed in the pool area of a home in Florida. If you must catch one, do it carefully by hand. If you grab a tail....you'll be left with a tail in your fingers as the anole runs away. Not Good!
If you subscribe to this video source you'll stay up to date. Release will probably be spring of 2008. Need it quicker? I can do a quickie video to get you going. Let me know if you're in a hurry.
You'll pleased to know that will be part of the DVD. We'll be showing how to have a filtered aqaurium in the base and room for the anoles above - using an Exo-Terra store bougt unit. 18wX18lX24h.

Still a bad idea though. They have territories of up to 40 or so feet in the wild

You should only keep one keeping more would stress them out. u could probably try 2 but i wouldnt. They need space to roam. :)
