The heidelbergensis living in Africa evolved in Homo sapiens and the heidelbergensis living in Europe evolved in Neanderthals. I made similar comments on another video, so I won't repeat myself.

@openuniverse2003 I think the problem is that we have too low an estimation of Neanderthal's. There is no reason to think of them as different from us. Their brain capacity was greater than ours, for example. We don't have many skeletons of Neanderthals, and they are sufficiently similar to us that there could well be cases of misidentification.

There are many, many examples of *FERTILE* hybrids between different species. The Wholphin is a hybrid between different GENERA, not just different species. There are even examples of fertile hybrids between members of different familes!!! Nature is more complex than our classification system devised by an Swede from the 1700s.

@openuniverse2003 I think the problem is that we have too low an estimation of Neanderthal's. There is no reason to think of them as different from us. Their brain capacity was greater than ours, for example. We don't have many skeletons of Neanderthals, and they are sufficiently similar to us that there could well be cases of misidentification.

Neanderthals were better at coping with harsh weather conditions and could sustain wounds better. Together with the fact that both species were equally intelligent and they definately did interbreed (All Europeans and Asians have between 1 to 4% Neaderthan DNA), it could just be that Neaderthals went extinct through absorption.

@djcorvus Take a close look at this vid clip. They show that Neanderthals' hips were made such that they could not run or jump the way human beings can. The Neanderthal "body plan" was not that of a runner, Homo sapiens practiced "persistence hunting", meaning that they absolutely needed the ability to run for long distances and long periods of time. Two distinctly different ways of surviving, two different species. Also, no real proof that hybrids would have been :"viable".

Those that are in the "genotype" (not necessarily noticeable from the appearance of the organism and "phenotype" (those that explicitly control the physical features of the organism). You would have learned of these in biology 101. There is strong evidence that the offspring would be viable. I'm not quite sure why you're so strongly disputing this. You are free to look over the data yourself.

All modern humans are still capable of interbreeding. Genetic evidence indicates that Neanderthals probably couldn't interbreed with their African contemporaries.
