@OfWordsAndWisdom Supplements aren't the only thing you need if you want to lose weight or gain muscle. A good diet and decent exercise routine are what's best. Supplements are meant to do just what they are named: they are meant to supplement your diet. There are countless pre-workout supplements you can take and as many post-workout supplements. Make sure you take a One-a-day type vitamin, or something meant to provide vitamins, to make up for the Magnesium and Zinc you lose during gruesome...

I recently started working out... and mostly focused on my upper body which caused my legs to shrivel. I think it's important to realize that if you work out your upper body a lot more than your lower then all the nutrients in your body will stay at the top starving your legs... Wish I knew this prior to joining a gym.

@wannak00kie well, jumping requires energy and the more you do it, the less energy you have so you won't be jumping as high. This routine will help you build a strong foundation in strength and energy to be able to jump higher for a longer period of time. For example... do 20 Burpees and jump as high as you can each time. See if you can still jump your highest y the time you get to 20 :)

Maybe you have already done a video about this ( you probably have since you pretty much cover everything ), but could you do a video based upon stretching and flexibility? I've been at the gym for about 2 years, yet my flexibility is still really poor. I try stretching but its really off putting due to the discomfort and its hard to stay motivated with it. Hey man, since football started we havent benched that much i used to be able to get 205 (i'm a freshman btw) and now i can get like 175 and i was wondering if theres anything you can do without a bench to help with your benching because i dont have a benchpress at my house i just have dumbells and a couple of machines can you please help me?
@RunNGun20 push ups and depending on how heavy the dumb bells are you could do dumb bell press...Something additional knowledge that might help you...Benching works triceps, shoulders and chest. :)
hey scott, how old do u have to be before u can really start gaining muscle mass? i mean like if a 10 year old and 20 year old both did the same workout, the 20 year old would gain more muscle and faster. But is there an age, for example, 15, 16, 17, 18, where you can really start bulking up from exercise and your muscles start to devlop?? Thanks!!
@MedicineManMehdi I was actually thinking the exact same thing. I have seen a lot of youtube users (who make videos) talk of increasing "hate" from people. Perhaps its from the sort of people who are just relentlessly doing nothing but watching videos all day as opposed to the people- like Scott- who are working hard to provide people with the sort of information which requires invested effort, time and money. In relation to increasing maximal vertical jump?! Sets and reps ranges are way off and the volume is too high. Not to mention the rest is too short for max effort work (as in 1RM vertical jump e.g. dunking). Good workout for conditioning/rehab and improving lateral stability perhaps? Some good exercises in there but the programming is way off Scott
@bentheballer There are steps that must be taken when trying to increase your vertical jump. This routine was developed with my Exercise Psychologist Brian A. McKay who has many years in training Athletes to be an introduction to training for a higher Vertical Jump.
@ScottHermanFitness True. Your right in that aspect, this would be definitely a good routine for a beginner or someone in rehab. Re-reading my comment it comes across more negative than intended I apologize. Was just trying to point out that this wouldn't be suitable for maximal gains!
@liflyguy you'll need something similar to this for your first couple months to build joint stability and a base level of proprioception (subconscious balance). for max effort you'll need to lift heavy (focusing on posterior chain) and do MAX EFFORT plyometrics e.g. high sets/low reps box jumps/vertical jumps. a good program to try would be Westside For Skinny Bastards III (strength cycle) by Joe Defranco
@bentheballer it is no worries my friend. This video was not designed for 1RM. That is a whole new topic all on it's own. This will increase your overall body function, strength size endurance, to increase your overall vertical jump. But thank you for such a kind reply :)

In relation to increasing maximal vertical jump?! Sets and reps ranges are way off and the volume is too high. Not to mention the rest is too short for max effort work (as in 1RM vertical jump e.g. dunking). Good workout for conditioning/rehab and improving lateral stability perhaps? Some good exercises in there but the programming is way off Scott

@bentheballer There are steps that must be taken when trying to increase your vertical jump. This routine was developed with my Exercise Psychologist Brian A. McKay who has many years in training Athletes to be an introduction to training for a higher Vertical Jump.

@ScottHermanFitness True. Your right in that aspect, this would be definitely a good routine for a beginner or someone in rehab. Re-reading my comment it comes across more negative than intended I apologize. Was just trying to point out that this wouldn't be suitable for maximal gains!

@liflyguy you'll need something similar to this for your first couple months to build joint stability and a base level of proprioception (subconscious balance). for max effort you'll need to lift heavy (focusing on posterior chain) and do MAX EFFORT plyometrics e.g. high sets/low reps box jumps/vertical jumps. a good program to try would be Westside For Skinny Bastards III (strength cycle) by Joe Defranco

@bentheballer it is no worries my friend. This video was not designed for 1RM. That is a whole new topic all on it's own. This will increase your overall body function, strength size endurance, to increase your overall vertical jump. But thank you for such a kind reply :)

@instantnoodler1 He's 5'10 I think :) and Eating healthy doesnt need to be expensive, just keep it simple! things like Oats, milk, chicken breast, fruit and veg and just be creative with it and experiment :)
