mine recently did something like this i turned on the system which is the same as yours and i get update failed ?? what does this mean it never asked me for an update before par nxe and august 11 and im gonna have to get a new xbox IT SUCKS

This happened to mine I had to buy a new one I dont think it was the update I was playing one day and during the game same thing happened it lasted for about two more months then it went dead with the 3 rings of death. I just did the update and mine works fine time for a new xbox.

I haven't had to buy a new dreamcast since 1999 or even a new super nintendo since 1991, but we're just expected to have to buy new xbox's? HOW many of these have red ringed?

As mentioned in the video, I was on a 20 minute break between rock band sessions. I think that's reasonable to leave the disc in for that (game is installed to my HD anyway)

Uhh... I'm pretty sure that means NEVER! Doesn't matter if it's only 20 minutes.
It fries your disc drive.
I know, it happened to me with Xbox and Xbox 360.

That sound hurts :< Updates are performed on the console itself with the exception of NXE updating on a hard drive or memory unit, right?

The update failed the first time on my 360 and it gave the RROD. After a few hundred reboots it actually came up properly, and it noticed the update failed. Thinking that something screwed up the install, I tried redownloading the update.
Well, this time it downloaded the whole thing, and... now my XBox doesn't work. At all. RROD no matter what I try.
