  • sometimes its the fuel injectors, mine is the #2 cylinder one, see if that help

  • i have the same car and same problem the "HLA's" make that noise or the hydraulic lifters... change the oil make sure you are FULL ( not to full) see if that helps. if not take the HLA out and take them all apart and clean them.. inside and out... i resorted to doing that and now they are as silent as a tree...

  • try 10w30 if ur running 5w30; my HLA noise went away after that!

  • Ooh you got the click.

  • cool, i didnt know that miatas had hydrolic lifters. my 96 avalon does it sucks when they go out that you ahve to just buy new ones and u cant adjust them

  • @saleem83 in the '99 model upgrade they gave the engine hydraulic lifters. before that, no.

  • ur timing sounds advanced, the pinging sound might be from unburned fuel due to the lack of proper timing....let me know what happend

  • Turns out it the hydraulic lifters had drained a bit. I checked everything again, poured some oil directly on the cams and fired it up.

  • did it sounds/work perfect right after that?!

i just popped my timing belt... -.-
