  • this is manson williams not eric clapton -.-

  • The guitar is played by Mason Williams, and not by Eric Clapton. C'est Mason Williams qui joue sur cet enregistrement, et qui a créé ce morceau, qui figure dans cette version non accompagnée sur l'un de ces disques originaux. N'importe quel guitariste ne pourrait reconnaître Clapton dans cet enregistrement !

  • And the Spiderman movie in the video? Grow up!

  • If you are going to illegally post someone else's property, as this is the property of Mason Williams, at least get it right! I predict youtube will be sued just like Napster was. Ever heard of copyright infringement?

  • I am so confidant, The bounty is now $1000.

  • I have to agree with you klotstang ive never seen Eric Clapton play this song. Mason Williams all the way.

  • The first one to find a video of Eric Clapton actually playing Classical Gas, and sends ma a link, I will paypal $25.00. Don't stay up too late looking, none exist

  • There are many videos claiming this is Eric Clapton. But I do not see any videos of EC actually playing Classical Gas. Show me a link to a video, that shows Eric Clapton playing this, not a slide show, but him actually playing it. You can not, as he never recorded this piece of music. Mason Williams deserves all the credit on this one. This is Mason Williams playing.

  • There is no video of Clapton actually playing this piece, because it is Mason Williams! Show me a link to EC actually playing "Gas." You can't, because he never recorded or "covered" it. Clapton, as musical director in the movie "The Story of Us", starring Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer, included several other artists music along with his. All music was in the background. Nope, not Eric here.

  • He released it on a live album but never recorded it? Case closed? I don't think so.

  • the confusion is as follows: this particular version was mason williams. clapton released classical gas on his live unplugged album but he never actually recorded it.

    there case closed!

  • That is actually Eric Clapton covering Tobey McGuire in the video. I'm serious.

  • NOT ERIC CLAPTON.

  • the reason so many people think this is by clapton is because it was released on napster (the original around 2000) as by clapton.

this is NOT clapton (although he is still god :-) )

I believed it to be clapton for YEARS - its not its Mason W. I have done the research.

BTW: IMHO the best version of this is by tommy emmanuel - to see him live is to come away from a gig with a different perspective on what a "good" vs "great" guitarist is ...

  • deff is the clapton play, he dosent hold the high 1s quite as long as he shud, not that its bad, just distinctive

  • this song isnt by eric clapton... it was created by MASON WILLIAMS.

  • ino tht was thr ORIGINAL this is a COVER by ERIC CLAPTON..get it right.

  • This "cover" is on Mason Williams' "Handmade" album. Clapton did not do this version. Go to your local record store and listen to the "Handmade" version. It is Mason, not Clapton. Mason's own site issued a statement on this. My husband is a protege of Mason's. Check out his stuff. Search for Sinai 48 on youtube, and also itunes, amazon and wherever else you can search! My husband also does an AMAZING version of Gas.

  • IM a kid,

It says it was performed by Eric Clapton.

I no mason williams did the orignal but this isnt the orignal.

SO stop complaining to me. Its Says ERIC CLAPTON not MASON WILLIAMS,

And Gz on your husband being able to play the song. Must be a fine guitarist.

  • This is a different version than the original, but it is still Mason Williams playing it. Mason has recorded four different versions of Classical Gas and this was one from 1970, not the 1968 original. Check out Mason's own websitein his FAQ, he says Clapton never did it. The album this version came from is from "Handmade" which is a Mason Williams album. Lots of files are mislabelled. Heck, you can find version's of Beethoven's "Fur Elise" mislabelled as Mozart. It happens all the time.

  • @Totalairs This is not the FIRST recording. It is ANOTHER recording by Williams, from Handmade. It was recorded in 1970. Go to classicalgas(dot)com, click FAQ, read question #3.

  • Eric Clapton has never made a cover of classical gas, its a fact stated on mason williams website and if you look at claptons webiste he has his full discography listed, classical gas is not among the recordings

  • I've knoen Mason for 15 years. This is his version off his "Handmade LP" back in 1970. Clapton has NEVER done a version. Go to Mason's website. Better yet, he's listed, call him and ask! Look up Mason Williams in Eugene Oregon. He'd be happy to tell you personally that he recorded this version. Get it RIGHT!!!!
