I get to visit these breathtaking mountains about once each month and it always amazes me. I really love to ride my motorcycle there...It makes me feel...Small...but connected somehow to something much bigger than I am.
I still prefer the rocky mountains though. Im from the Midwest, where there are few appalachians. But our tallest mountain, The Harney peak of the Black Hills in SOuth Dakota, is more than 7000 feet tall. That's taller than any mountain in the appalachians. Not to mention that the Black Hills are not very widespread.
I'm from Tennessee originally but currently stationed in Rapid City, right at the foot of the Black Hills. Let me tell you, IMO, these mountains SUCK. As soon as the mountains end in the east, you have the ugly high plains of SD; the change in terrain is abrupt and harsh. What beauty there is to be had in the Black Hills can only be appreciated for a few months out of the year because of the insanely long, brutal winters. A few blizzards a month is NOT fun. I can't wait to be back in the south!

It brings tears to my eyes to watch this video. I didn't listen to the music, I wanted total silence, as if I were actually there. I am in Texas, it's the polar opposite of the beauty you live in. I am from the hills of S Illinois. No shame in being called a hillbilly. Life is happier there.

I grew up in Knoxville, TN and almost every Sunday when I was a college student, I rode my motorcycle into the Great Smokey Mountains. One of my favorite pastimes was getting Kentucky Fried Chicken and wandering out on a big round rock in the middle of a white-water stream and eating my chicken. I live in Austin, TX now and dream of going back home where my folks live. I never new what I had in my own backyard growing up. I love the mountains!

Outstanding Video that captures the beauty of the Smokey Mountains. Millions of visitors come to this area every year but miss out on the true beauty and entertainment by not driving up into the Park and the mountains themselves. I have seen all these scenes unfold over the past 60 years and I always marvel at God's beautiful creation. You could come up in the mountains every day and see something spectacular and beautiful.

Great video of one of the greatest places on earth. We just bought 4 acres in Soaring Eagle Heights in Murphy NC.
We are building a nice home mid 2008 and will settle
there with our 5 dogs. The local people are so friendly and
