By-Law if your job includes getting tips, their is a legal minimum wage lower than the standard that employers are allowed to pay if they choose to (Canada has terminated that law and now all wokder must be payed minimum). Also i think a percentage of all waiters tips should be split with all the busboys but not with the other waiters. Tips are based on personal performance and would be unfair to have to share your hard earnings. Other waiters may earn the same with greater service quality.

i am in the restaurent business. the way it generally works is you have to give a percentage of your sales to the support staff (busboys, barpeople, maitre d, hostess). where i work, i give back one percent to each support, meaning in my case 3% of my sales. on 5000$, that would be 150%. on a tip of 4000%, i could live with that.

In England, waiters are not allowed to keep tips and wages are below minimum wage, no bonus, no comission, no payed holiday, no sick pay, no nothing....8-9 hours work,if its busy,no breaks and not allowed to leave the premises even if you do get a break.
Im not aware of the term 'dodge', Cook's SOMETIMES get decent wages, but I know and have heard of many who work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, yet take a second job just to make ends meet, even in busy and more expensive restaurants.
Wages for Waiters are below minimum wage in the US as well, but the waiters get to keep their tips although they usually have to claim them for taxes (which means they end up having to pay more taxes at the end of the year) unless the establishment lets the employee get away with not claiming their tips. And at every restaurant I've worked, the waiters usually do give dishwashers/hostesses an incentive to help the waiter,but only when a good nights tip is made. Waiters can't do it on bad nights.

By-Law if your job includes getting tips, their is a legal minimum wage lower than the standard that employers are allowed to pay if they choose to (Canada has terminated that law and now all wokder must be payed minimum). Also i think a percentage of all waiters tips should be split with all the busboys but not with the other waiters. Tips are based on personal performance and would be unfair to have to share your hard earnings. Other waiters may earn the same with greater service quality.

i am in the restaurent business. the way it generally works is you have to give a percentage of your sales to the support staff (busboys, barpeople, maitre d, hostess). where i work, i give back one percent to each support, meaning in my case 3% of my sales. on 5000$, that would be 150%. on a tip of 4000%, i could live with that.

Wages for Waiters are below minimum wage in the US as well, but the waiters get to keep their tips although they usually have to claim them for taxes (which means they end up having to pay more taxes at the end of the year) unless the establishment lets the employee get away with not claiming their tips. And at every restaurant I've worked, the waiters usually do give dishwashers/hostesses an incentive to help the waiter,but only when a good nights tip is made. Waiters can't do it on bad nights.
