  • idiots

  • terrible singing, terrible swashbucklers....this is no good. this is no good...

  • Wow, you guy's did a superb job on that tune! Thanks for the post for those that still love GENESIS

  • You know, I just discovered this band a few months ago. And I can't recall how many times I have already heard hints of Genesis, Yes, Kansas even King Crimson. This awesome cover just cements what my ears were already telling me.

  • God DAMN! Their cover just hits you like a wall of beautiful proggy sound. Nick's vocals are absolutely spot on, the instrumentation is AMAZING, overall just a perfect performance.

  • nick sings very well and neal is great on drums, nice version!

  • I absolutely love this version the Beard did... this is amazing... plus Nick's vocals sound so amazing

  • great performance!!!!

  • This was painful to watch. Not even half as good as the original. This song just dont sound good without phil

  • @themann141 well it IS a genesis song. of course it sounds different when it's not genesis playing it. SB does it good, but it would have sounded better if neal sang it.

  • @themann141 1. This was awesome. 2. Can you even play an instrument or sing as half as good as that? 3. Learn proper English-it's "doesn't " sound good. Sum total: keep your flap shut.

  • Great song but this cover is truly balls

  • LIGHTS GO DARK, AUDIENCE CLAPPING, CHEERING, PHIL RUNNING ACROSS STAGE WITH A BEARD AND A HOCKEY STICK, 1975, AND THEN, "SQUONK" OPENING SONG, INGLEWOOD FORUM...

  • Love this version of Squonk.

  • GREAT version!!! Guys look like they had a blast performing too!!!

  • Justice well and truly done. Not many bands can cover Genesis well, but these guys are one of them!

  • Nicely Done !

  • Awesome song, nice little rendition by SB. Great to see the kids paying homage to their elders!

  • Unbelievable musicians! Saw them in concert and it was one of the best I've been to besides Yes!!!!

  • interesting version. A lot of energy put into it. I like it.

  • You guys should induct Genesis into the R and R hall of fame!!

  • I am just glad someone is playing this great song!!!!! What a great tune!

  • this is way too slow and too jokey.. dude.. sounds ok.. but sorry

  • dude this is a more heavy metal version than progresive 70's rock version, i dont like it

  • Where can I get this DVD??? I want to buy it now!

  • GENESIS music rules! Squonk!

  • Is Neal playing drums?

  • Comment removed

  • @ bokkie0001: He is indeed.

  • Ha. He is!

  • Try again without Crack or Speed next time....

  • stupid comment! how old are you?

  • fuck yeah! love nick's voice :D

  • On a lighter note, Neal Morse is actually a pretty good drummer- I'm starting to wonder if there's any instrument he can't play

  • Oh har de har...seriously, enough with the anti-religion stuff okay?

  • ok sorry

  • Fair enough- and hey, we both like Spock's Beard, right? That makes up for anything else, in my book

  • Comment removed

  • really nice heavy version of this song

  • Neal Morse is one of the most talented musicians in the world. No doubt about it. Too bad he is chasing the false ideals of a fictitious being.

  • There's No Need to Insult the man for his religious Ideas... We may not have the same beliefs as he or any other Humans have BUT you Have to RESPECT his Faith...If You Don't Then You Don't Understand his Phylosophy

  • While it is ignorant to press religion onto others (what many christians do) it is also ignorant to reject someone for believing in what he wants to believe.

  • Sorry guys, the overlying problem here is Neal left the band and took the heart out of what was once the greatest music making group ever. Forgive me for not sharing the same tolerance.... and further, do you REALLY think the band understands? The man claimed God told him to pack his bags. In reality, that is a whack job.

  • This is me giving you a thumb's down and telling you to fuck off.

  • your intelligence is overwhelming.

  • And so're your good manners- 'the false ideals of a fictitious being'? Not exactly the politest statement in the world is it?

  • truth is there is no god. Deal with it. Our destiny is to be eaten by worms.

  • If that's what you think, then...well, you're wrong.

  • AMEN :D

  • hell didnt know neal could play drums so well...never had actually seen him play! he rocks!

  • DRUMMERRRSSSBBAAADDDDD....

  • That's mostly because he's actually the lead singer/keyboard player. The fact that he plays drums as well is pretty impressive.

  • What cant these guys do?????? Oh yea get Neal back

  • oh thats stupid... just move on.. nick has an excelent voice

  • GOOD JOB GUYS....

  • very good !!

  • these guys rock! - in true genetalia tradition - the drummer sings (gabes and phil both bashed hides) Also they do it as a "song" and are lovin' it lovin' it lovin' it and not a genesis tribute with all the theatrics - what a band - do they gig?

  • Great show, Spock's Beard is amazing band, even today without Neal. I especialy love Neal Morse, he is a great man first, then a great musician.

  • NO, Genesis rule, and spock´s beard cover them!! does anyone know what happened to neal morse that a religious obsession befell him?

  • Something with his daughter, she was seriously ill i think, and then was cured while Neal prayed. He makes great music still, my favorite composer and musician. Hope one day i will watch him live..

  • Awesome!! I love it when bands switch their instruments up, its way cool. Spock's Beard and Genesis Rule!

  • wooooooooww!!!

  • "squonkwow"...

  • drummersbadd...

  • thats due to the fact that the drummer aka neal morse is normally the lead singer, keyboard-player and sometimes guitarist

  • if you listen caerfilly, neal is actualltyplaying morse code on the drums

  • ifwecanjustenjoytheperformance...

  • cananyonebeanymoreproudthankyoufor

    meithink@least14timeslosangelesgreatestcaliforniaareatoxperiencegenesis4u2bee, among us....can anyone imagine....

  • xclnt cover guys!! the drumming sounds look Phil, and the vocals, a touch of Pete's version, moreso than Phil's in later shows... Well done guys!!

  • je les ai vus en 2001a paris au café de la danse, 3h de bonheur.....et aussi en 1ere partie de dream theater !!! en 2000; putain ils assurent graves........

  • I love his band so much

  • Great cover!

    I LOVE that song ^^

  • I really love those Neal's funny drumfills :D

And Ryo is rock&roll, as always

  • I love their version of Squonk!

  • Superb chaps.

    Well done.

    squonk

    Liverpool

    UK

  • I think this is AWESOME! I saw them at 3RP in Pittsburgh in August 2008 (I got to meet them as well) and they put on a fabulous show!

  • They play it well enough musically, but JESUS, can we please do without all the "dig us aren't we cool" stage moves, gentlemen?

  • I actually enjoyed that part.

    Kind of.

  • Agreed. That - plus the shirt - makes Nick look like a protein powder salesperson at GNC or something.

  • I don't think they're being serious. They're just having fun.

  • WHOS AT THE DRUMS?

  • Neal Morse, the former lead singer of Spock's Beard.

  • i reckoned him, but i didnt kwen he was a drummer

  • The guy can play anything.

  • i know, hes ... well, hes neal, enough said

  • he's neal. yes, indeed

  • Hmmm, my comment was a reply to the person making the Genesis/SB comparisons. Phil Collins/Nick, 6th album and so on...

  • wow!! i didn't know that neal morse was a good drummer too ;) amazing ;)

  • But the Genesis/SB parallels are eerie: 6 studio albums, with the 6th being a double. Lead singer leaves band. Drummer takes over on lead vocals. Release two studio albums, then double live. And...Peter Gabriel also plays the drums.

  • This is probably a good point, but I do think Neal Morse was more important for Spock's Beard than Peter Gabriel was for Genesis. Neal Morse wrote most of the songs in his band, while the rest of Genesis wrote at least as many songs as Peter Gabriel did. Also, in 1975 the voices of Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins weren't totally different, while Nick D'Virgilio's voice is fairly different to Neal Morse's.

  • I have to disagree. I think the new Spock's Beard album is much more harder and progressive then the old, and i think that NIck's voice is better in many ways. Still dig the old, but won't ignore the new.

  • Is he trying to sound like a Vegas lounge singer?

  • nick is fucking wasted. he's even more wasted in the version on the live at the whisky VHS.

  • Unlistenable!! Plus the 20 seconds I was able to get through, the "singer" got two lyrics wrong. Do people really like this S___?

  • Yes.

  • A Trick of The Tail Release Date: 2/2/1976

Wind in The Wuthering Release Date: December 27, 1976

  • if u dont know this is not collins you are fuckin stupid

  • Great cover.

  • Is that a Hammond XK-1?

  • decent drumming. the vocals are not off..but far from on.

  • Exceptional cover by these guys. Spock's Beard rule the Earth!

  • I can't stop watching this now.

  • They ruled this song.

  • They ruled this song.

  • is nick and at the end became another collins from drums to vocals

  • the beard is not the same with nick singing. i can't get into their new music with him on the mic, he just doesn't fit.

  • I disagree to some extent. Theres no one who stood a better chance of replacing Neil than Nick, its just the Neil is so amazing that the band has suffered an irreplacable loss. I would expect Neil to come back after some time though, probably just wants some time with his family while his kids are still growing up.

  • well, actually i wasn't clear enough. i DO think nick is a good singer (as this video shows) but what i think is missing is the creative input from nick.

i was actually lucky enough to be in the same city they were doing an acoustic set at (just neal/nick) i think it was 1999 (maybe 2000)

it was in germany, where i happened to be on vaction at the time :)

got the chance to get autographs, get drunk, and hang out with them during intermissions. cool guys!

  • Nice, thats awesome man. Yea I was supposed to check them out in NYC at the BB King Bar & Grill, and catch a Pat Metheny show @ Carnegie hall, but I couldnt book a flight, so everything went to hell.

Did you mean the creative input from Nick or Neil ? Either way, you're kind of right, theres something lacking in their songwriting department, I found Octane was a huge let down other than NYC, and while the self-titled was much better, there were times when it dragged on.

  • oops that was a typo, i meant neal.

  • I discovered the Beard AFTER Neal left, and I find the newer music to be more compelling than the older stuff. The self-titled record is one of my favorite albums ever. I love the Neal stuff, but the newer stuff finds a way to be progressive and musically adventurous, but with the occasional killer hook.

  • Who is this singer? Doesn't sound like either Neal Morse or Nick.

  • Shows how much you know about Spock's Beard lol. It's Phil Collins singing on this version ;)

  • Shows how much you understood my question.

I did NOT ask who sang the Genesis version, which I already know Phil sang on both "a trick of the tail" from 1975 and the live "seconds out" from 1977. My question is who sang in THIS video. For your information, this guy is NOT Phil Collins, in case you didn't know it.

  • ATToT is 1976

  • "Wind & Wuthering" is 1976.

  • like squonkness said, they're both 1976 releases. they were on a roll that year. :)

  • Are you stupid?

  • I love the beard, but these vocals suck.

Neal is amazing, spocks without him is same as Genesis without Collins

  • Nick D Virgilo is simply amazing on this one.

Great cover, by the best progressive rock band in the world between 1995 and 2002.

  • Good effort by Nick D'Virgilio but it is not extraordinary by any means!

  • Saw them do this at the Troubador! As far as covers go, I like Squonk and Space Truckin'!!

  • Pretty amazing coincidence, but...

Genesis lead singer Gabriel left band after 6th studio album, a double, and the drummer Collins took over on lead vocals.

Spocks' Beard lead singer Morse left after 6th album, a double, and then drummer D'Virgilio takes over on lead vocals.

Squonk, of course, is from the first Genesis album with Collins on lead vocals, so it's foreshadowing Morse's impending departure that he's singing it here (with Morse on drums!!!)

  • Yeah, interesting! But I am far from being anything like Chester Thompson. He's much taller!!!

  • nick is incredibly drunk here

  • Personally it drags for me at this tempo.

  • good job best cover band for this song

  • sounds good, always been a big beard fan but wtf they left out half of the damn song!!!

  • where's the damned mirror mirror on the wall part?

  • damn...I didn't think I would say it but the slower tempo made this song sound kinda sexy...creepy huh?

  • Good Job, But the song Doesn't Go Over when you're trying to be Cute on stage at the same time. Short version with dropped lyrics, anyway, Try leaving the Ego at home next time.

  • I think you're taking it far more seriously than they did.

  • this version of this genesis song was great, but is missing some of the lyrics.

  • Oh my my, that was great!!

  • A fantastic version of one of the best classic Genesis tracks ever!

  • great cover

  • brilliant fellas !

  • great

  • spock's beard+neal morse live together again for Snow performing? it's true?!!?

  • Nice to see someone covering this great song by a great band!!!!!
