  • all i need is a machine shop and a couple different types of steel, i found some original ( they seem legit....) blueprints on line :DDD

  • Hey i have a question if anyone is willing to enlighten me. I have a friend that has a couple of Stens for sale. FULLY AUTOMATIC. What kind of price are these selling for now a days? I know guns but am not up to date on fully auto stuff. Not really my bag due to all the red tape BS. But it seems they are a very cheap alternative to a fully auto AK, AR, M16 or anything else i would prob pick first, if it were not for the price. Anyway, any idea would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • @dqreps If these are pre-86 registered guns then he could get anywhere from $5000 to $8000 for each one. This depends a lot on condition. The lowest I've ever heard of one selling for was $2000 and that was from someone desperate for money.

  • @Obinjess Come on! I could buy a desert eagle and have 500$ left over for that price! I know where to get one for $160, But I am not going to tell anyone where until later.

  • @Obinjess Thanks for the info. Its much appreciated. His asking price (without me dickering with him yet, at this point) is 5kea. I have not seen them yet and am not sure if i want them but i am trying to educate myself on these so i can make a good decision. Do you have any advice/info i should be aware of if i get into these. Pros/cons etc? Thanks again my freind.

  • @dqreps In all honesty if you are a collector of WWII commando guns then get it but there are other guns you can get for less money that are simply better machines. A Reising M50 is a better gun than the Sten and it's $4,000 or less. The Sten is a crude gun that was built for a purpose and its time has passed. I would happily pay $2,000 for one but $5,000 is just too much for such a rough and simple gun.

  • Für den GARTEN sauber zu halten.)) YES

  • @SgtBuzzob Oh unless you mean cheaper to make than a pair of shoes cost back in the thoes days. Then yea probably..

  • @SgtBuzzob Less than a good pair of shoes? I dont think so. They go for anywhere from 3,800 up to 5,000 for the mk2's. Where do you get your shoes from? damn

  • is this gun well accurate?

  • @albin43211 It is not inherently accurate like a modern submachine gun but I could still hit everything I was aiming for. The fact that it was a 9mm with a heavy bolt made it easy to control. I think the effective range would be 75 meters or less. After that distance the sights made it tough to accurately shoot. You could hit something further than 75 meters but the gun would need a better sighting system.

  • You do realise this gun was a piece of crap? My grandad used one during the Suez crisis and hated it. Much prefered the Bren gun

  • this is alos compatible with MP40 mags making it very useful for the french surrender resistance

  • the stem has 47 parts right? i cant remember exactlly.

  • At last someone who knows how to hold one properly.

  • Although this gun may have not been the most amazing of ww2, it only cost £2.50 to manafacture. As opposed to the mp-40 costing £40 per weapon. When you need to make millions and millions of weapons the sten was a much smarter choice.

  • 0:10 nice,audible reflection shots.

  • can i ask you a question?

  • 0:2 hey garry! :D

  • @frede1105 Actually it's "Hey Barry!" My friend Barry Carlson was in the background.

  • @Obinjess ok but its hard to hear :)

  • oh people wanted to be the guy standing out with the diffrent type of weapon diffrent from others an old mentality so they come up of these diffrent types of weapons not the average same like having the magazine in different wayz like the type 8 the clip upwards the sten sideways.like the bullpops to but there not a bad creation famas sa-80 styr aug ..what ever

  • The sten accurate? British troops called it the stench gun because of it's poor accuracy.

  • @LDdudeman the early models jammed a lot too

  • @fdsdh1

True but early models of everything invented had trouble ! and what ever the arguments I would not like to be shot by the sten just as much as the much vaunted MP-40!

  • You can hear tht perfect whistling sound form cod at 0:10

  • I wanna come over and shoot it! But doesnt it only break down to like 5 or so peices? and where do you get these sort of guns?

  • My grandfather has a sten and i love it!

  • I think it's kind of funny that this gun were all lusting over was once referred to as 'the plumber's abortion'.

I think it's awesome. Too bad it costs $4,500+.

  • @SgtBuzzob Well said. I was amazed at just how simple the Sten was. The owner of the gun broke it down and disassembled it for me. The most interesting part was the bolt: it was HEAVY. There are a few good web sites that illustrate how easy it is to break down the Sten. Check them out.

  • You look like John Tickle. 0_0

  • xD

You really think two rounds can be loaded?

    Dumb

    Flat out fuckin dumb

  • Sounds like a ricochet at 0:11

  • the sten was a very dangerous weapon , even with the safety catch on it would fire if you dropped it , walking in woods or forest was also a hazard a branch getting tangled in the trigger and off it would go , i have also seen many men lose the tips of their fingers in the injector chamber , but it was also great fun when you learned how to handle them properly ,jim ,

  • im from another country and my name is Sten

  • fantastic weapon that horribly innaccurate put together for about £5 but it did the job

  • Story from my uncle in the RAF WW2 . Corporal stands in front of a platoon giving a lecture, holding a Sten up in the air.

"This 'ere is a mk2 Sten submachine gun, 9mm caliber.

It 'as a side loadin' magazine containing 32 rounds and BUDABUDABUDABUDABUDA!

He held the gun up as it emptied the mag into the air, then he threw it to the ground exclaiming, "And its FUCKIN' DANGEROUS!!

  • They were alright if the gunnery sargeant had a look at em and cleaned up the metal work.

  • Cheap British sub-machine Gun it was 9mm and it was very inacurate and do Not forget that they were unreiliable and would Jam

  • @joshuago8 Dude read the description.

  • Damn double posting but BTW, could this be adapted for bottom feed? Foregrip would be nice...

  • If the sten can be built with simple shop tools, could you rebuild the mag housing to accommodate double-stack, double-feed mags? ha, I'd like to see a high cap, 33 round glock mag or something... would be good for fixing feed issues if it can be done. And when I say done, I mean PRACTICALLY, no space-age shit. Man, that image isn't gonna leave my head : P. No but srsly, can it be done? practically? how? all I wanna know is if u can get it to accept reliable mags.

  • Is there anything wrong with holding it by the clip? Reduced accuracy maybe, but i mean in terms of harming the gun?

To think such a cheap weapon was so effective and today they're top dollar collectibles. A real Nazi-cruncher O.o. I'd still get a Greasegun over it though, 9mm isn't enough for me :/

  • @peepeevagi I was told by the instructors that holding the Sten by the magazine could cause a misfeed. The way that I'm holding it is the proper way to hold it if accuracy and reliability are a concern. If you held it by the magazine it would also be unusual because your left arm and hand would be at a funny angle.

  • @Obinjess: The Sten may not look attractive, but it gets the job done; in fact it can surpass other medium-sized portable machine guns like the Thompson, the PPSH, the AK, the M16 or the German MPS (just to name a few) because this gun has better-designed ironsights than most other machine guns. In the COD games, only in COD 3 does the player hold the gun correctly like you do, and not by the mag, while your friends hold it by the receiver; I never understood that.

  • @DNchap1417 Interesting. I don't play any of the Call of Duty video games: never have actually. I found the sights on the Sten to be pretty crude and chunky compared to other guns. The sten is a fairly unweildy gun and I wouldn't have wanted to carry one in Iraq. The trigger was vague and not suitable for precision shooting like a nice 2-stage trigger. I think whoever is doing the research for making video games might be getting better. The way I held the gun is indeed the proper way.

  • @peepeevagi Yeah the sten has a tempermental magazine feed holds 32 rounds always load it with 30. Holding it by the magazine can cause improper feeding and misfires. As ya said. (this is from my Grandad)

  • Comment removed

  • @peepeevagi Yeah my Granda was in Korea loved the gun !!! I dont know if it the Bren are the sten. But he said if you hit the butt stock hard enough it fires off. Causing 1 are 2 accidental misfires !

  • So i guess fully automatic ones are dangerous if dropped? lol.

  • @peepeevagi when in the Canadaian Armed Forces I carried a Sterling a more modern version. We use to call it the room broom, insert 30 rd mag pull back the breach and throw into room, would empty mag real quick

  • Like a bullet grenade? XD

  • @peepeevagi but the grease gun is 9mm

  • Also widely produced in .45 as a cheap Thompson submachinegun replacement. :D

  • @peepeevagi oh okay nvm

  • @ChromeGhost0219 M3 Grease guns were .45 ACP by default. There was a 9mm conversion kit available, but they were rarely, if ever, used.

WRT Holding: Take a look at Richard Todd in "The Longest Day" in the Pegasus Bridge scenes. He holds it by the mag, and considering he actually fought there on D-Day, he should know what he was doing.

  • @peepeevagi Except for the fact that a Sten has no clip, yes.

  • Clip, magazine, whatever :D

  • @peepeevagi you will damage the mag catch eventually and then the magazine will wobble causing jams he is holding it in the most preferred manner if you arent jsut dumping mags it shouldnt get too hot.

  • @peepeevagi Magazine and clip are not interchangeable.

  • @qmriis WHATEVER gtfo out of my gun video goodness you grammar nazi. Clip, Magazine, so long as they get what i'm saying.

I'll be technical when technicalities are required.

  • @peepeevagi You're an idiot. This is not your video, I'm not being a grammar nazi, and it has nothing to do with being "technical". They are two terms different terms that refer to to wholly different items with different functions.

  • @qmriis It's not my video, but i'm enjoying it, so it's MY gun video goodness right now.

And of course they're two entirely different things. But i got my point across didn't i?

And getting at me over a misused term makes you a grammar nazi. You're bothering me over a term i'm using incorrectly, are you not?

Clip, magazine, ASSAULT CLIPS, you get the general idea.

  • @peepeevagi yes theres problems becuz its not called a clip -_____-

  • @angrymuffin123 Clip, magazine, dont be a grammar nazi D:<

I know the difference, but it slips out sometimes. And it got my point across ANYWAY! :D

  • your pretty humble for some of these guys talking crap sweet weapon tho..

  • Looks like the Type 100

  • well the type 100 is the remodel of the sten so....

  • No, the sten and type 100 were both modeled after the MP 18.

  • ya i heard the ricochet too sounds just like in the movies and games

  • my dad said this gun was shit and it always went off by itself

  • Your dads mistaken. Although it wasn't the best SMG of the war it was far from the worst. The Mk5 was a nice weapon that stayed in service until the introduction of the Sterling in the late 50s and saw operational service in Korea amongst other places. All Stens suffered from the handicap of the 9mm round but for what it was, a cheap easy to operate SMG, it was sufficient in its early forms and more than sufficient in the mk5.

  • @britopinion: The Sten sucked major balls, because it costs £2.8 to produce. In fact, it became the inspiration for a last-ditch Third Reich issue weapon: the MP3008/Gerat Potsdam

    :)

  • there were many rip offs of this already bad original design, i think there was a czech version and a polish version

  • thats like saying the ak47 was a bad gun because shit countries like afghanistan and iran make it

  • Well it was built in the middle of WW2, you can't hold it against Churchill for making a cheap gun.

  • @purpleravenstar It was alot better then what the US made to arm the french with.

  • @purpleravenstar That may be true, however the sten is just an ak47 amplified 10x in simplicity. It may not be pretty but it is very combat effective, and was known to be copied by resistance members in ww2 in small workshops it was that simple.

The only reason the sten hasn't surpassed the ak47 is because it isnt an assault rifle and is somewhat ineffective at long ranges. Truthfully, most sten guns were pieces of shit. The only ones i like are the ones with wooden grips.

  • It would go off by itself if you drop it, it's the way the sear on it was made.

  • @pride081 What are you talking about? the sten is in call of duty!

  • I think I just feel into a sarchasm

  • ya it ricocheted twice

  • Anyone else hear that ricochet at 0:10?

  • I Heard :D

  • The Sten was a British gun in WW2

  • how much do these go for?

  • About $4000

  • amazing gun!

  • Man that's gotta feel weird as hell to hold.

  • Incorrect RandomBallers - the person firing the Sten in the video is holding this weapon as it was meant to be held when firing.

  • this was the first smg ever to have a silencer for it

  • Actually I'm holding it exactly right. The Sten's heavy open bolt is something which you have to curl your forward fingers under or your fingertips may get crushed. Look in the original Sten manual and you'll see that I'm holding the gun the way that the manual specifies for accurate fire. The Sten is a unique gun to both hold and to shoot. It was accurate because the person shooting it, me, knows how to use it.

  • how much can i get one for? i dont care if it shoots, i think it would be a cool wall hanger.

  • @Obinjess You're correct. You're holding the weapon exactly as it should be held, one of the few times i've seen it done so on numerous vids on youtube. Way too many people holding the magazine to fire this SMG, a sure way to provoke a stoppage on the sten. Never fired a sten myself so i'm envious but had a lot of time on the Sterling L2A3 many years ago. Ergonomically similar but much much better than the sten.

  • @Obinjess Thats one way to go through bullets do you gys reload your bullets?

  • @gary77777778888888 Yes we reload just about all of our own ammunition.

  • @Obinjess sweet do you allways half to size your brass when you reload your fully and semi ato bullets or can thay strech a litle and not jam? we realode ower own bullets to my favrit all around gun is a 22-250 i know its a small caliber but it shoots strait when its not windy and its fast it has a suprising nock down power for a 22 cal the hiest volsity useing hornidy realoding suplys is 4000 something feet per secont its a fun gun-

  • @Obinjess and the 22-250 ariginated form a 250 savage neked down to a 22 cal but bigger calibers are better for long distant shots i would love a 50 cal but i would defenitly load it as cold as possible well any how have fun and be safe.

  • @Obinjess True. Hold a Sten by the magazine and you're asking for a jam.

  • this is a very accurate submachine gun

  • LMAO!!! the sten is not made for being accurate it was made for close quarters. It is probably the most unaccurate smg of its time!

  • Not really, the Sten was only inaccurate when you got stuck with one that was crudely built.

  • simple design, awesome gun, and NOT a piece of shit. 3 of the best submachine guns ever produced were all in WWII. the russian ppsh-41, the thompson, and the sten mark 2.

  • Russian PPSH was copied from Finnish submachine gun Suomi KP/-31.

  • no it was not, the ppsh was inspired by it, and used a different operating system with numerous differences

  • so the finnish submachine gun was copied of the Thompson since it also has a drum magazine?? not to mention the Bergmann MP18 from 1918 which was hugely influental on all later submachine guns.

Do you know that most weapons are influences by others but that doesn't make them copies.

The american Springfield 1903 was essentially a copy of the Mauser 98 and the british Lanchester SMG was a copy of the germna MP28.

And get this. The STG44 and AK47 are entirely different in design(not looks)

  • Really? What about the Suomi? Berretta? MP40?

  • Nice! Fun gun to shoot, isnt it? :)

  • two classic guns shooted the same day.well thats something

  • you shoot in semi because the gun jams?

  • No you get less of a kick and no the gun doesnt jam only with bad care of the weapon and you get acurater with a semi shot then full auto

  • At 0:21, you had a bit of a flinch.

  • That wasn't a flinch. It was that massive bolt slamming forward. Remember this is an open-bolt gun and the bolt is fairly massive.

  • What's wrong with compensating for recoil on a fully automatic weapon? It's not favorable, but it's not like it's a gun he has a lot of time with. Have you ever fired something like a STEN? The muzzle can rise pretty quick.

  • Yeah. I just shot one yesterday out at a gun range with my uncle. Good stuff.

  • i don't care for the sten guns grip. it looks uncomfirtable and dangerously frail.

  • COME ON

    Run and shoot!!

    take cover hit the dirt!

  • One of the most underrated guns of ww2 would love to shoot one but impossible with our laws,it was so cheep to build that it could be supplied to every resistance group in Europe for free.

  • can u guys help me ?? where can i get a gun like dat ??? o mean they dont make em anymoe so how can i get one ??

  • You have to Buy a Parts kit and a receiver blank and build 1 yourself. I plan on making 1 someday. they are a very cool gun. You can get a parts kit for around a hundred bucks and the reciever blank is about 50 bucks.

  • not the mk2 like the one thay have the mk2 is like 600 bucks an to have one like that you need some permits for the full auto

  • Matthewofpuppets: Be careful. It is highly illegal to build a fully automatic sten receiver. The blank templates are not illegal because the manufacturers tell the gov't that they are for "dummy guns and display pieces only." Building a fully auto sten without all sorts of liscences and paper work will land you in prison if you get caught. And even if you build one with the proper paperwork and liscencing, it is "non-tradeable," i.e., no selling it or giving it to anyone else. Consult the ATF.

  • 100rnd's for $15 thats pretty cheap.

  • The Sten is such an amazing weapon. it's cheap, made from stamped parts, and has a ridiculously simple design. It's a gun that could be made by someone in their garage or basement with the right tools, yet it's incrediibly reliable and accuracy is not too bad.

  • @themanfromwyoming Except it had a habit of double firing and exploding in your hands because of the straight magazine.

  • @justchaosX What the crap are you talking about?

You dont even know, so dont reply, that was so idiotic what you just said, im nearly laughing at it.

  • @Kylef7735 Dude i know what im talking about, not only have i shot one of these but my father did. He was in the british army and his fellow soldier got his hands blown off because of the STRAIGHT MAGAZINE on the side of the gun. Most mags are bent to prevent two bullets hitting and exploding in the barrel.

  • @justchaosX Youre making no sense, only one bullet can go in the barrel at a time.

The only reason some magazines are bent, is because of cases without straight sides, but since 9mm (what the sten fires) is straight sided, so bent magazines arent required.

  • You do know that the Sten gun's reasons for the magazine was so it could accept MP40 magazines right? And, i can prove you wrong on your 'bent' magazine theory. How? Every other submachine gun (Or pistol caliber carbine) that had a straight clip. Heck, the M3 (the US equivalent of the Sten) has a straight magazine AND is stamped together alot rougher.

Maybe your Dad's buddy in the military just had a bad Sten (Crap metal, stamped odd in some places, crap ammo). Also, you dont know shit.

  • @themanfromwyoming : several guns were made by danish resistance during WWII. Springs were made by factorys working for the German army.....In ya face:-)

  • lucky? the 9mm parabellum is the most common cartridge in the world

  • Is the ammo 9mm para ?

    you lucky buggers !!!!!!!

  • The ammo I was using was 9mm ball ammunition.

  • can you still buy the kits to build these? i cant find them anywhere. my father in law bought a kit about 8 years ago for 100 bucks.

  • is it accurate?

  • i had no problems at all hitting all of the targets. i was aiming at some silhouettes as well as pumpkins. the furthest target was probably 75 yards away. it was a washing machine and you can hear the bullet ricochet off of it.

  • yes its a full auto gun . . . he fired in bursts . . like you are meant to. . oh i wish i was dumb. :D but im not. operation .. type in silenced sten gun or sten Mk 2S . :D

  • Sten guns do not jam alot, depending on its use and the sten gun was not the first sound supressed gun, and what it did have for a sound supresser was a heavy iron flash gaurd.

  • Nice vid. I love WW2 era weapons.

  • yes

  • can this gun be silenced?

  • Yes, it was the first machine gun to be fitted with a sound supressor.

  • The British SAS used it frequently behind enemy lines, particularily against the Japanese. The surpressed version that is.

  • Sten is underrated. Its very fun and very easy to shoot. Great for beginners.

  • @WaroftheGalaxies

the absence of a safe isn't good for a beginner.

  • Looks like great fun, good video.

  • sten gun jams alot right?

  • yeah it jammed 5 or 6 X's in the viddy.

  • actually it never jammed a single time that entire day. the Sten is VERY reliable. all you heard is me taking the time to line up the sights and hit each target with a short burst.

  • If it had jammed he would have to clear it...

  • actually it's not the gun itself that usually jams, the real problem was the magazines that got dirty and also caused misfeeds. This really only shows up with field use, where it actually matter, and not at the range. And the Sten's reliability is better than it's reputation. Just don't drop it with a loaded mag in :D
