@talltom1973 - They are having this surgery because their bladder or uterus has fallen and is exposed in the vaginal vault, or to rid themselves of incontinence. These situations occur many times as a result of child birth (many years later) due to weakened muscles or having a hysterectomy. Both are debilitating. I hope this answers your question.

Why should she seek the dictionary? she has it correct. Cystcele means that the bladder has herniated thru the vaginal wall. They repair it or attempt to with mesh and the mesh errodes thru the vaginal wall including many other problems. The FDA pulled the wool over the doctors eyes, hence all the lawsuists.

@witchmix Not exactly. What they are doing is extracting mesh from her vagina. Mesh is like a screen and is designed so that your tissues grow through it. When injury occurs, and it has to be excised, it must be dissected from the body in small increments and often takes multiple surgeries. It is dangerous to have this mesh implanted, but many doctors don't the risks associated with the implantation. The FDA requires NO clinical trials, and are using us a guinea pigs!

Personally, I prefer whenever possible, to always use traditional vaginal anterior wall prolapse correction. The mesh failure rate (imo), is ususally too high. I suppose it is just a matter of comfort zone control for me.

The problem with the preceding post is that the FDA never contacted me, despite the fact that their were 664 adverse events on file in reference to the type of mesh implanted in me at the time of my surgery in 2004.
