  • Love this song !!!!

  • i,d rather not be fifty, but thank god i lived thru this era as a youth, the seventies ROCK !!!!!!!!

  • I thought Jools Holland played keyboards, it seems odd to see him playing guitar.

  • @Feisty1967 it was a tongue-in-cheek performance in which band members play the 'wrong instrument'...

  • Fantastic moment at 0.53 where JH picks up the plectrum he's dropped. Rock 'n' roll!! :D

  • I those lyrics are what can best be described as "bittersweet", eh?

  • "It amazes me how people so young could write such profound lyrics" - I'm sure it's something to do with them coming from Greenwich (properly pronounced Grin-idge)

  • difford seems to know how to drive a drumkit!

  • @keef71 Tilbrook is behind the kit, not Difford.

  • great

  • Class !!!!!!!!!!

  • MAGIC

  • fucking brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this song and viginia plain by roxy music, the titles are mentioned only once as the last lyrics to the songs, are there any others in the 70,s ?

  • Man what a song!!! Millions of relationships summed up in arond 3 minutes. ;)

  • they swapped instruments in protest because the bbc wouldn,t let thwm play live

  • cool, they are not playing their given instruments; how very Post Modernist of them and tha

  • gritty realism, only us Brits could! want proof? try putting a line about smelly nappies (diaper) in your song!

  • Intelligence and education. What a heady combination.

  • Difford and Tillbrook are without any doubt the best British songwriters EVER.Lennon and Macartney may have been more prolific, but even they couldn't write the neatest short pop songs ever that tell a story like this.My memory is shot to pieces now but I can still remember ALL of Squeezes lyrics some 30 years later.

Songwriting with no equal anywhere in the world and not one example of plagiarising someone else's songs because they've got no original ideas of their own.

  • ...brings back so many good memories. Squeeze were a brilliant English band!! So good!

  • IS IT THAT LONG AGO FEELS LIKE YESTERDAY NOTHING NOW THAT YOU CAN REMEMBER

  • It amazes me how people so young could write such profound lyrics. I would never have had the wisdom to understand the lyrics when this song was around...

  • @lisalewis401

...not so different from artists of the time.

When you're a musician you want to be good, to be relevant, and to be grown up.

It's a little different than playing to a 10-year-old fan base, accessing American Idol, and selling sexual innuendo.

  • fantastic and no idea about the switching !!!

    great stuff

  • Well well who cares about what they did or did not do...they do it in 2011....The song and words count you load of muppets....Listen and learn.....

  • Nice protest about miming--be ridiculous about it.

  • Jools on guitar.. :-)

  • If you could write a song like this ...

  • LMAO...the scenery looks a tad phallic!!

  • @Dalmaik LOL nice one!

  • @Dalmaik Well it was 1979 Not a year when you were Born...I guess you are the Best Dressed person in the World????So Stick your Thoughts about My Childhood UP YOUR ARSE!!!!

  • I love this more than i love myself...

  • squeeze one of the best post punk bands(punk died in 78 when rotton left the pistols)

  • They are taking the piss by swapping instruments because they were made to mime on totp, the stranglers did it as well at least once, even switched vocals!

  • @ynotyrrebrac lol! I was sitting here scratching my head thinking, "no WAY did he play the drums!... " Thank you for confirming my assumption. ;)

  • How great is youtube?

  • It's the bass player who's missing, because they'd recently canned Harry Kakoulli and John Bentley hadn' t yet joined. Difford's "playing" keyboards.

  • I love this

  • They swapped their instruments in protest at being forced to mime on TOTP.

  • theyve obviously swapped instruments for a bit of fun !!!! classic song

  • Chris is playing the drums how come?

  • @Forestamtul That's Glenn playing drums. BTW, somebody's missing here. There's only 4 of them, there should be 5.

  • @TheJohnnyCotts hello what is BTW? thanks

  • @Forestamtul That's short for "by the way".

  • @Forestamtul internet knowledge fail

  • @TheJohnnyCotts I think Chrid Diffords the one whos missing. as I think Gilson Lavis is on the Bass and Paul Bentley or Harry Kakoulli (not sure when Harry left) is on the Keyboards.

  • @Forestamtul sorry its not Chris it Glenn playing the drums. I get so confused with peoples' names.

  • it's a piss take- that's why lol

  • great drummiong

  • 479 views, no wonder so much shite clogs up the radio these desguised as musik, what d fook,

  • absolute classic! . . . jools seems to have swapped his trade mark keyboards for a guitar.the guys talents seem to know no bounds!!! thanks for sharing.
