  • Notice that he doesn't even play with his fingers, but wrists.

  • those wrists holy fucking shit, kollias plays that speed with flying fingers theres something unhuman on kai, simply love this guy

  • Rotten Sound covering War - fuck my eyeballs this is wicked!

  • Kai u fuckin legend lol

  • this is fucking amazing

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!

  • super sonic speed...who is this drummer?i wanna add as friend....!!!!

  • @axeccidentally Kai Hahto, the uploader of this vid. You can also find him on facebook.

  • ah man George Krollias is a cyborg with special uberspeed bassdrum line

  • i just jizzed..

  • what the fuck? xD

  • Nought to sticky in under 20.........

  • Damn asians do everything.

  • @xLambxOfxGodxOwnsx L0L Kai Hahto is finnish!

  • @ThexteraDrummer OH SHIT HAHA , I never saw his face , his name sounded asian :D

    Welll , he's fucking nuts.

  • @xLambxOfxGodxOwnsx He is! Musicians like him make us finnish people proud to be finnish! ^^

  • 0:13

  • 0:14 Yeah :D

  • He plays it well, but nowhere NEAR the album version.

  • @Jgresko hahaha fucking idiot

  • @Jgresko Just so you know, the final album version was never actually recorded with Thomas Haake playing drums.

  • WTF?

  • lol at the fact that he joined swallow the sun xD

  • This is very impressive... however it's worth noting that the footwork during the blast in the original version of War is twice as fast, ie a bomb blast instead of this traditional grindcore blast beat. So as far as I know the song 'technically' still hasn't been played...

  • I always thought Derek Roddy was the only person that could maybe play this....

I mean the drums were literally inhuman. But it can be done!

  • Kai Hahto is a beast. Actually Bleed is not as difficult as War concerning stamina.

  • does anyone has the lyric of this song?

  • HOLY FUCKING SHIT

  • Question: What album is this song on? Great playing!!

  • Rare Trax. I had to search for it too.

  • rare trax

  • thanks for the info guys :)

  • Meshuggah started programming drums for awhile due to studio time constraints, not because Tomas can't play what he writes. They've played this song live many times. Fun fact...the drum machine they used was designed and built by Fredrick Thorndendal & Tomas Haake.

  • War is a freakin` tough song.

  • i think bleed is slightly harder....but this is blazing fast, he couldn't even do the gravity blast!

  • wow.... that was killer!!!

  • 2:20 ruined the whole video.

  • Why? You envy them? Can understand that.

  • No, it's because the guys face is terrible.

  • i saw someone say that meshuggah actually used a drum machine for this song, anyone else hear that?

anyway - THAT is a fucking amazing drum performance :O

  • the whole albums drums are programmed, not played.

  • It's true.

  • yes, they did for a fact use a drum machine for this song on the album...... which is what makes this performance insane and makes you wonder... is kai human?

  • @edgecrushers for a fact you say? i say meh

  • @OutOfControlCarFire edgecrushers is correct. Meshuggah DID use a VST drum machine on War.

  • @nostalgiacreep ye, the whole song was a birthday present to meshuggahs drummer! :)

  • It was to fredrik for his 30th birthday or something like that.

  • correct

  • Comment removed

  • Kai Hahto is a speed genius :D

  • HOLY FUCK

  • god i don't think i could 'bate that fast with my hand.

  • Holy shit dude. That was amazing. I don't know what people are talking about when they say you're slow or didn't quite do it right. You nailed it. That was good enough to make Tomas Haake's jaw hit the floor.

Oh, by the way, I know that someone already requested the lyrics to this song, but does anyone know where I can get the lyrics to war? I've been trying like hell to find them with no luck. Just curious, cuz so far every lyric site I've tried is missing them.

  • The lyrics don't seem to exist.. I searched for it just now.

  • Yea, I did too and found nothing. Guess no one but Meshuggah knows the words, and unless they tell everyone what the lyrics are everyone's gonna have to figue them out themselves. ;-( Oh well.

  • SICK!!!

  • Amazing cover.

  • nice kai

  • KIVA!

  • holy lord, did you ever nail those fills...and everything else for that matter.

  • hah, if I didn't know better I'd think was a rotten sound song, not a Meshuggah song :D

  • Can someone direct me to WAR lyrics? I cannot find them!

  • Butthead: Thith ith the coolest thing I've ever theen uh huh huh huh..

  • man, i love you

  • I went complete nuts when Rotten Sound played this song in Jörisrock 2005.

  • Wow. Very, very impressive. War is an extremely hard song nonetheless.

  • "Isnt possible to play live"!?!? Hell yeah it is. I do it. And the dude above does it. Or u can just ask derek roddy or any other one of those fucked-up-machine-like-kind-of dudes to play. Search for derek roddy and u will find an "impossible" drummer.

    Cheers.

  • Derek is a lil bit TOO robotic for me. I like Thomas Haake, Joey Jordison, Chris Adler they are master blasters and they got GroooOOOOoove.

  • @themthrashinkids Haake is the epitome of robotic drumming. A superb drummer, but the whole idea of Meshuggah is to be "robotic"

  • They got a lot of songs that DEFINATELY have feel, Like lethargica, combustion, WAR, Sickening. Are you thinking form a drummers point of view or the band as a whole?

  • @themthrashinkids From both. Haake is incredibly precise, dead on, little to no room for a slightly lazy, groovier feel.

  • Well yeah...I guess but he has to have perfectly constructed drum pattarns so the guitars can go off into crazy times and such while he stays in a fairly basic precise rythhm. He claims to do so in many magazines I have of him.

  • @themthrashinkids joey jordison don't groove at all...

  • @13Tretton13 George Kollias is a Machine to!

  • @13Tretton13 or try George Kollias

  • @guitarmen66

He goes under "fucked-up-machine-like-kind of dudes".

  • it is possible only the shame is the people who can do it don't know it =p

  • god damn that wasnt supposed to be physically possible on the drums...

  • Well, check Tomas Haake out. ^^

  • Tomas is amazing, but hes not playing on "War" its programmed

  • I've never heard of them playing it live, they made it as a joke to make fun of Fredrik because he likes blast beats and just straight forward fast stuff like that, it was for his 30th birthday and apparently the lyrics are just making fun of him. I'd love to see Haake playing it live though

  • I know that he does not. I never said he did either. I just said that is actually more physically impossible.

  • @barrymorrissey

    Tell that to him

  • @barrymorrissey Neither was any of Meshuggah's other material lol.

  • @barrymorrissey why would not? there are much faster blats beats.. like on nile songs and technycally harder and so on.

  • DFH - 938498734 HUMANS- O

Altough, this is the better try i've ever seen on war,its way difficult to cover, but not impossible.I will do it,even if I end with artritis and wrists as bigs as Popeye's I dont care! I will play this fuckin song at the same speed and same accuracy, bcs I fuckin want to!For the hands of Buddy Rich and the feet of Tim Yeung I will do that fuckin miracle!

  • You are such a factory! We must hate.

  • Wow, that was a rush. Great cover!

  • fuckin nigga, this dudes fuckin sick

  • Wasnt that song originaly recorded with the DFH? ..And BTW, I dont think it was "slow"...That was sick!...

  • War was recorded with an old version of the DFH

  • Venom: you have no idea what you're talking about. War is STRICTLY DFH, Thomas while beeing an amazing drummer could never hit that speed.

  • of course he could, but this song was more of a fun thing, I mean, jens did the guitars on this one

  • jens did everything on this.

it was birthday present for frederik making fun of him. yeah

  • That was the Swedish version, they remade it for Rare Trax with different English lyrics.

    Anyways, Damn, your a machine.

  • holy fuck, JENS played the guitars??? :O

so everyone in meshuggah is a freaking speed genius

  • speed is not genius......

  • I never said it was, I said they're all SPEED GENIUSES because they can all play ridiculously fast guitar.

  • It's true, the drums are electronic. It's not like they're trying to hide that, they've said it was DFH.

  • Not good.. But Kai Hahto is doing well

  • MUY BESTIA!!!!

  • i agree with N3CROMANC3Rxx. its slow but still a damn good cover.

  • THIS BAND FUCKIN' ROCKS!

  • shitty audio and video. but it sounds like they nailed it. nice work. too bad meshuggah doesnt rerecord this song along with dont speak and by emptiness abducted.

  • i didn't know it was possible that a human being could play that

  • +1

so bad that the quality is so low...

we REALLY can't see his arms

  • the word is bitchin

  • On se kova sälli...

  • so freaking sweet!

  • Aye, impressive.

  • lol excellent!.. when I first seen the vid I thought HMMM.. but now iv just watched it .. very impressive.

  • kai hahto is an amazing drummer, and I don't think tomas played this on the rare tracks cd.

  • Amazing, great cover!

  • 1:28 lol :D

  • No it was a present for fredrik birthday, and in the real version the lyrics are in swedish and is called "jävla loser jävel"

  • lol, what does that mean?

  • "Fucking loser fucker" :)

  • hehe, I should've guessed

  • i'm pretty sure meshuggah used tomas's "drumkit from hell" to make this song, i don't think they actually recorded the drum track.

  • im surprised thats possible, to play it right fast, ha....not bad, slow down a tad though

  • Wow, you might have actually played it faster than the real track.

  • Very impressive.

  • this song is fucking fast as hell

  • Wow. Amazing

  • one of my biggest influenses in drumming playing one of my favorite bands coolest song... too fucking good to be true! keep slaying hahto!

  • you know the actual is a drum machine, right?

  • yes, what the fuck has that to do with anything?

  • no actually Thomas Haake is a beast and plays it on the c.d.

  • No he didn't. The entire song was a birthday present for Thomas, which is why it's so "unserious".

  • Voi perkelene..! Sehän meni ihan nappiin rummuissa! Etenkin fillit. Todella hienoa kuulla tämä coveri, suuri kiitos tästä!!

  • i try to put this on my personal website.you find the adress of my website in the end of this clip.actually i gave this one time to tomas haake when he was in finland but i don´t know if he has it still..

  • Thanks man!

  • Do you have for download in higher quality? Would like to play it to the guys (and get some more detailed picture/sound).

  • no doubt you have some fast fingers for those single strokes rolls on 1 hand lol

  • aa laitoit tänne tämän videon sitte, ajattelinki ku ei näkyny kotisivuilla niinku aluksi meinasit :)

  • amazing!

  • HOly SHIT!

    Killer man. True Rare Trax

  • Well Done

  • thanks for the comments!could always be better playing, that wasn´t so perfect. :)

  • Fucking insane. Never thought I would ever see this performed, because the above reason^.

  • But still, a good performance på Rotten Sound, but I don't doubt that Haake could play this.

  • I was meant to write to Catch33.

  • REEEEEspect! The drums on 'War' are DFH (programmed)! haha. nice one.

  • I think it's more like trying the program. War isn't really Meshuggah you know, it's not their normal genre.
