I believe that the fellow test riding his brothers 1500 Goldwing was the smarter of the two. I got that assumption by the look of his riding gloves. Hard to believe that his brother didn't have the smarts to wear a Jacket & Gloves, plus a properly fitting helmet.
Wow, this brings back the only memory I have of riding on my dads 91 Goldwing. At the time it was the most terrifying thing I had ever done, but looking back on it, it was so much fun, and that thing was quite the motorcycle. He tipped it in our street once and it took three people to get it righted.
He sold it after 4th gear began crashing really badly.
aw man, now I want a gold wing even more. How was the shifting? I've never driven a motorcyle, I have a Yamaha Majesty 400 maxi scooter which is just like a smaller motorcycle, and it's automatic. Plus it weights 440 lbs, and this thing is about 360 pounds heavier. Is it heavy in the turns? I know you said it wasn't that heavy once you get going, but how is the weight handling wise?
@danalia If you are comfortable on your scooter, a Gold Wing shouldn't present you with any problems once you get it rolling. Just be careful maneuvering it around in your driveway and parking lots. It would be a struggle to pick the thing back up if you managed to tip it over! The bike in this video is an old one, but it shifts easily and handles nicely. If pounding out miles on the interstate highways is your cup of tea, it would be a good choice of bikes.
@dprider02 I prefer the country back roads of Ashtabula County to the highway, which means lots of bumps and craters which on a scooter isn't always smooth if you know what I mean, and it sure isn't good on the rear end in long distance drives. That's one of the reasons I want something bigger, with a bigger , padded seat. I'm torn between this and a Harley Road King. I think I still prefer the Goldwing.
@danalia - I've had both and much prefer the gl1500 to the road king. The harley has a lot of good points, but there is no comparison as far as the smoothness and ride. Maybe I would have preferred the harley when i was younger, but I doubt it.
Dude, I love your videos! You could easily make a living doing motorcycle touring videos, especially with your commentary. "Goddam Asshole" is among my favorites....LoL!
@grossefrite The bike actually belongs to my brother, and it's either a '92 or '93. I still use an old Kodak V570, which has been discontinued, and it's mounted inside my helmet.
@daylonrr Sorry it took so long for the reply. Anyway, it's not my bike, but I'm pretty sure that it's a volume or station control dial for the radio.
I love your narrating, especially the story about the eagle and turtle. (Come to think of it, there's a Dexter's Lab episode in which an eagle drops a turtle. A common occurrence, apparently.) Btw, do you remember whether this was a 1200 or a 1500 Goldwing?
@camel747 I was a pretty big fan of Dexter's Lab. Funny stuff! I can't recall the eagle dropping the turtle, though. Anyway, I think that my brother's Goldwing is a 1992, 1500 cc model. He still has the thing, but rarely rides it. Thanks for watching!
@taledarkside Yeah, it's a tank alright, and not really my cup of tea. I like carving corners! But it's easy to tell why it's such a popular long distance touring machine. Just about perfect for that job.
@wingzofsteel Nothing wrong with the Vstrom. It's certainly capable of touring, with maybe the occasional gravel forest road thrown into the mix as well!
@MrDeezi Hard for me to imagine doing that, but a friend of mine told me about almost nodding off on a bike one time. If it was gonna happen, I suppose it would be most likely on a bike like the Goldwing. Sure is cushy. My Honda 919 keeps me pretty alert!
Funny comment..."God I feel like I'm sitting in a truck". I have an '08 Wing and can relate. Nice vid. Thanks for posting. PS I'm detecting a philly, delaware type of dialect....am I close????
Thanks. I've been posting vids for close to 3 years now, all with my trusty old v570 Kodak. It's a great helmet vlog camera. Too bad they have been discontinued.
im gonna rent one this weekend to head out on a long run. Looking forward to it as I've ridden sportbikes most of my life. Still have the '08 Honda 1000RR but wanna switch up lol .. Nice goldwing though !
Yeah, for the long haul with a heavy load, the Wing is probably the class of the field. Not really my cup of tea, though. Too dang big! If I was to ever head out cross country, I'd rather have a bike like yours.

What is the year of your Goldwing? A very nice video, what kind of camera did you use for this, was it mounted on your helmet?
I just LOVE this ride.

@daylonrr - I used to have a 1997 GL1500 - I think that knob dimmed and brightened the lights for the instrument dials on the dashboard.

Switching from a 1000RR to a Goldwing would be a pretty radical move. If it was me, I'd try and keep the RR as well. You'd miss it !

that is why I ride a vstar 1100 classic. All the comfort, 250 lbs less weight. Long trip, hard to beat a wing.
