My favorite in the series is Breath of Fire 3. I liked the Master/Apprentice System and how your characters grew up and changed a bit. I also loved the fact that first time you got weapons and armor, they were "robbed" from a shop.

Not to mention that BoF3 was a true sequel to BoF1.

I've always said as far as characters go..."What is Breath of Fire without Ryu, Nina and most of all, Myria?" ^_^

I didn't like Dragon Quarter. I wish they just make a new game,reboot it all and name it BoF.

@onlyelisha Actually if you read it closer, its an opinion that I like the first storyline better than the fifth. Breath of Fire was unusual because the first and third game where tied together.

Seems to me that games are doing away with world maps and overworlds in favor of more character oriented stories. I feel the entire Ryu/Teepo and Ryu/Fou-Lu was recycled into V with Ryu/Bosch.

If the law stated to only post positive opinions, it would be the end of all true opinion as we know it.

@geckoman07 Two things. What's wrong with Kingdom Hearts? And the only thing remotely similar to Kingdom Hearts is that the art is 3D. This game is very different to the BOFs before it, but not because of the art. It's because of the gameplay.

If you don't have a complaint about its gameplay, you don't really have a complaint worth entertaining. No offense or anything.

Final Fantasy 7's graphics were vastly different from Final Fantasy 6's. Final Fantasy 8's graphics were vastly different from 7's. Same with 9. And 10. (10 seems to be what they've settled on though)

This would've passed as a spin off title of the game...(like how persona to MegaTen is)...but the major complain to this(by fans) is that the gameplay is too far away from the previous ones. Anyway I still did personally loved this game as "Dragon Quarters", not "Breath of Fire"

I've played all the Breath of Fire games, from the first to the fifth, throughout my life... And I have to say, this one is probably my favorite. It's poignant and beautiful and grossly under-appreciated. Hard to pick up, hard to get into... but once you do it's so, so worth it.

This canonical version is quite different than the rest of them..Sounds like the

technology they used during the underground areas are not what we're used to..I must play this one way or another and hope to beat it..I hear it's not easy first time around..

A good game which I'm thinking of replaying. I still didn't enjoy it as much as the others, mostly due to the restart system and limited saves. Limited inventory slots (mostly a pain in the faerie village game as you will have to leave and come back repeatedly to get everything), and the dragon meter going up simply by walking around (which discouraged exploration) are part of the reasons I've only played the game once, while 3 and 4 about 10 times each. I think it's time to break it out again.

Ruined bof for me, was a complete dissapointment and a waste of time. had to keep starting over to get stronger. can hardly use ur power caus you got a time limit to complete the game and using dragon powers kills you quicker, its all underground so no world to explore, cant retrace steps, graphics are shit, storys not the best, ur rival is a cyborg fagit. just utter crap and waste of money!!!! p,s your love interest nina is a 12yr old clone nuff said

No, you're not. Dragon Quarter was one of the most artistic games I've ever played it. It actually tried to innovate the series rather than stick to the same tired formula. Mega Man and Zelda could learn a lot from it...

I think it was a rather hard game, but it's one of the finest games (or Rpg's) out there.

what you stated about BOF Dragon Quarter weren't its con but in fact its pro IMO. The suffocation atmosphere, the harshness of the gam with limited saves, the long dark corridors and tunnel where ma mutants lurks. The D-COUNTER that was announcing you're impending doom as you take each step while the Dragon power consume you. Dragon Quarter chhose the path of Dark and harsh survival story rather than your typical lets save the world in a green lush environement. A masterpiece

@japanfe Storywise I'd say it's almost on par with BoF 2 and 4, which are two of the best in story from what I think. Gameplay though is either you like it or you don't. Many of the old BoF fans didn't like the D-counter and short game length. I thought the new combat style resembled Xenogears' system, which was fine; just the D-counter and nerfing of the dragon powers was a horrible idea.

not to use d-radio if you are in the middle of the game with 90% there is nothing else you can do

I don't know why, but BOF 4's dim atmosphere wasn't likeable. They tried to mix light with some weird shading... it was nicely done, but it just didn't click for me.

They definitely should revert to the old battle system though, with a few new changes to make it fit in.

I replayed this game literally 5 times. Three times were spent because of the D-counter, and the other two just replaying the game.

I really didn't mind... the game is actually good if you're a BoF fan... just not GREAT

Really, you don't want to do it without restarting- the more you restart, the more scenes you unlock! You have to do it a LOT to unlock everything, and it can be tedious at times, but it's totally worth it~

I just wish the game had a deeper plot or explained into more detail on why the world was destroyed ... like did death heaven finally awaken did myria show her true colors and support an all out war or did the dragons finally loose controll
