wow....i really love that overdrive tone where the gain is rolled back all d way and the volume all the way up.... Would i be better off buying an AC booster instead? i mostly play rhythm due to lack of band members
Great demo again, thank you! I'm looking for a crunch tone for less gain sounds. I have a Mesa F50, but it's overdrive channel seems too heavy, and not sounding crunchy well. So which pedal should I use on clean channel to get some good crunch sounds? Much appreciate for responses.
BB Xotic,FullTone OCD,MI Audo Crunch box-Which one do you prefer for a Les Paul And a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.I am searching for a Marshally tone without buying an half stack on a fender amp.
Hi PGS ! I'm looking for a boost/gain/overdrive/distortion pedal to boost my rhythm sound on the dirty cannel of a Orange Rockerverb 100 MK2. I've got a Ibanez TS-9 but it doesn't seem to do the job : not enough volume and to much high end. Do you think this Xotic BB preamp should to the job ??! I need help please !
@willguitar83 - Yes, the BB Pre would do a fine job in that application. It has a much flatter frequency response and more output than the TS9 . You might also look at the Xotic AC Booster if you don't need the BB's gain. Thanks!
hey PGS im looking for a light overdrive similar to that of my maxon OD-808 but i need something with a bit more thickness and bass for P-90s in a ES-330
I'm undecided on whether to get this or the AC booster, they are both amazing, from hearing how this sounds clean, it has HUGE gain range, I'm just after one, but one really nice overdive, any suggestions welcome!
a very throaty & solid sounding drive pedal I must say. Or even raspy dare I say. Someone in a famous forum once mentioned that the BB Preamp is as smooth as butter but I beg to differ. The creamy Diamond J-Drive MK3 blows it out of the water in my opinion.
I owned a J Drive and I found it just didn't have enough compression for leads, sounding good for rythmn but couldn't do much else - notes died too quickly
It depends I guess, its more of a classic rock type gain. Probably wont get you too far into classic heavy metal or modern rock stuff, which kind of sucks but for what it does, its supposed to be one of the best and most famous out there. I got the AMT B1 which is a Bogner in a box..the thing SMOKES; has tons of gain on tap just in case, nice thick & juicy Bogner tone..THATS a pedal you want to have as a clean channel balls out distortion pedal.
I put the AT BB Preamp (Gain 10 oclock, Volume/Treble/bass 12 oclock) in front of my Peavey 100/w Valveking and it really rounds out the edges and sustains forever. I never turn it off, its always on.
Could I use this pedal as a clean boost to make my Tiny Terror louder when having a clean sound? I'm afraid there won't be any clean at gigging or rehearsing levels...it doesn't need to be sparkling, crystal clean tone.
prob better off with one of the other pedals, the rc booster or ac. this is more of an overdrive pedal than a booster though it can be used as a lead boost.
i think you should check out the boss ge-7 eq pedal for that. i know, its a boss, but its the only boss that's actually worth getting. It really has some capability to boost your volume as well as fill out your sound.
a lot of the pros have em on their boards as well.
with the tiny terror since it is such a small amp, it will be very hard with any pedal to maintain a non-broken up or clean tone at high volume since it is a tube amp that is 15 watts or less. you are going to overdrive it at high volumes
i dont think u could really use any pedal to boost the volume of a clean and leave the clean tone intact. maybe try using less gain on ur amp overdrive and use ur volume knobs to clean up the sound then if u need more gain on ur overdrive add the pedal for an overdrive boost. That would be the most simple option.
If that's what you want, I'd suggest a volume pedal. This pedal primarily as a clean boost is kind of a waste. Maybe look at their RC booster instead, that's it's specialty. But these will color your tone. If all you want is a louder clean signal, volume pedal is the way to go.
hey, ya this is a dumb question but i don't know. Do you put distortion pedals in your effects loops. and by that i mean do you put them with the other pedals that you plug into the back of your amp like delay and modulations. Or do you put it in front of your guitar? Also Does it really matter about true bypass and not true bypass because im working with a solidstate crate amp so its not going to be super critical tone.
OD/dist. pedals are used before the amps preamp, not in the loop. And if you've got an SS Crate, I'd suggest you save your money to get a good small tube amp first.
@IronHorse4642 actually the loop thing depends. i recently tried running all my effects into my amp's effects loop, effectively bypassing the preamp so i get just power tube saturation, and it's a lot thicker sounding than just going in front, but that might just be me, ymmv
No we haven't. But it would get a pretty dirty tone if that's what you're looking for. The best way is to try one out with Your rig, since everyone's rig will vary. Thanks,

Hey guys, is this pedal only for clean channel and to give that dist by itself, or does it work to boost an already gained channel as well?
