Thanks, but doesn't workfor me. I am so fucking annoyed - why the hell can't movie maker twell me at the START there is a problem rather than waiting for me to spend 7 hours enditing a clip!!! Still no real fix I guess.

I have noticed the problem shows itself as a pause when you are previewing the movie - sometimes removing this pausing file can work but if you need that aprticular clio what good is that excuse the terrible grammar I am totally fed up.

Just wondering, would this help me fix my problem? All of a sudden, whenever i save a movie i made in WMM onto the computer.. i play it and the first second plays normally then everything is just corrupt. My videos I film save in .AVI file types. When I import them and drag them onto the timeline on Movie Maker and go to preview the video, only the audio plays, and a black screen shows as the video, leaving me only to hear audio. I have no tried out what you have said in this video yet, but do you think it may work?

@ANTBOND004 It might work for you if you are missing one of these files. it will not harm your pc to install them. Also WMM has a hard time running AVI files, I made a video for a good video converter.

@HowardDonaldluva Normally it will do that when one of the files are corrupt or it cant read it properly, hard to say which one but you must be missing a codec.

@HowardDonaldluva A codec is a file that is used to decode video and audio files, it is hard to say which one was used to build the files you are using in your project.

installing media player latest version 11 or 12 will give you a ton of needed codecs, if it still does not work you could try (K-lite) google it that is for more codecs.

@mspetiteus If you were able to save the file to your pc you should be able to burn it to a cd using your burning program. if you dont have a burning program then that would be your problem.

It could be you dont have a sufficient amount of free memory to run movie maker, it is very greedy. I have 2 gigs and it still lags at times.

the bigger your project gets the more it will lag.

@KNYSpencer19 You could try and edit your pix first to make them smaller, pix can consume a ton of space in a video sometimes. Exit out of all other programs to free up as much memory as possible.

that is a common error that takes place when a certain program is installed that conflicts with movie maker,

the transitions are still there but the shortcut for them is missing in the registry.

Not sure which program causes that. try a system restore or uninstall any software recently installed.

I have WMM for Vista Home Premium, it says it's version 6.0.6002.18005. I have a problem with doing things because at times it will randomly close me out saying "Another user is using Windows Movie Maker on this computer. Use (CTRL+ALT+DEL) to open task manager, under the process tab you should see moviemk running, end that process and you should be fine.

Sorry to bug you again but it still isn't working for me. Whenever I try to save my video to anything at some point it freezes. @happykoala4 this happens to me too. To fix it i just press (CTRL + ALT + DEL) and close WMM. Then just re-open WMM and something saying something like this should pop up "would you like to restore your last session". Just click yes and then you should have it back

Conclusion, WMM stopes responding when you use MP4 files.

solution: I used WMM to convert every MP4 into WMV- by importing MP4 and publishing one by one into your comp . deleted old mp4 files. from pc since they were doubled now.

result: WMM is WORKING OK! did not stop responding even once so far. i made movie up to 30 min. :)

PS the hard part was to spend a few hours converting MP4s into WMV , each file took up to the 1 min, but WMM would have to restart from time to time, when files big

Yeah MP4's are tricky because of how they are encoded, wmm does not like them

After you use a file for the movie you have to be careful not to move them or change them, until the movie is done.

If you have a file in your timeline that has an X on it, you would have to right click on it and choose find file location.
