It is illegal to do that in France and Germany I believe regardless of how 'safe' the operators are. Check the legality before you get yourself into trouble.
The french authorities are extremely protective of their relics , i went on a scuba diving trip to the normady beaches and we were warned that if caught anyone taking anything risked heavy fines and confiscation of equiptment , so probably not supposed to be doing that
@ChriisoX I know this comment was a year ago but just because someone speaks Spanish it auto maticly makes them Mexican right. Even though there are 22 Spanish speaking countries. I hope you still don’t think that way, by the way there Argentinean.
Brainless idiots. I'm surpirsed they didn't pull the pins with thier teeth to see if they still were active. When God gave out brains, they thought He said trains, and they missed theirs.
@doctorpissoff You are just a idiot who hadn't even picked up a shell i guess, wtf you know about them, if they hadnt been fired you can even throw them against tree. Dont talk if you dont know anything you moron.
@doctorpissoff Those explosives are over 40 years old not to mention they've been underwater. Do you now what happens when water comes into contact with gun powder? It ruins it these rounds are inert meaning they won't explode no matter what. When god gave out common sense he must have missed you by a mile.
@StalkingRainbow Gunpowder yes, but these contain fulminate of mercury, and nitro celulose based powders which decompose to other unstable compounds, for example leaching pure nitroglycerine as they exceed their safe storage life. Laying them in the sun can make them more unstable, I've dug up plenty of ww2 munitions and seen bullets start to smoke in the sun after ten minutes, putting them in a bucket of clean water would have been safer.
@rorybowskill True - I do not know what they used but in WW! they tunneled under each others lines and put a ton or more explosive in mines to be blown before attacks. It could be vicious with counter mining and hand to hand knife fighting in the tunnels. The British army "lost" at least 2 large mines and one went off spontaneously in 1956. Fortunately the Belgian farmer was away having lunch at the time but the other is still there - somewhere.
@StalkingRainbow You are wrong, I am a ammunition expert for the US Army. A round that has been submerged in water does not automatically make it inert. I have seen a number of people killed in Germany digging up WW2 unexploded ordinances in swamps. Your opinion sir would have gotten someone killed.
@StalkingRainbow That is also incorrect, there are many incidents where ww2 munitions that were dumped off shore have washed back to shore with some very bad consequnces. I also would like to bring to your attention that numerous causes of death and injury among divers exploring WW2 wrechs is handling unexploded ordnances. Water of any type is no guarantee to the safety of handling unexploded ordances. This is basic knowledge in the UXO world and no untrained person should state otherwise.
He must have missed you by a few miles then, you are so heading for a Darwin award!!!! Quite a few people are killed by unexploded ordinance from ww1 and ww2 each year.
These things are just as dangerous as they day they were fired, prehaps even more now as the compounds inside them become unstable over time to point out another error when gunpowder dries out it can go boom again so no its not inert.
@Garron88 "Quite a few people are killed by unexploded ordinance from ww1 and ww2 each year." How many of those people died inland at major battle sites that took place on land? I'm assuming at least 80%.
If you notice I was talking about munitions that have been left to be ravaged by the sea. You know that big blue thing that covers an extremely large portion of the earth. And just happens to eat through copper like a fat guy wolfs down a hotdog. But that doesnt' mean play hot patatoe with it.
@doctorpissoff how dare you judge us, well maybe 2 of them are not aware of anything about the second world war, but we found it because we knew where to find
First of all, that's not french, and there's no need to call another language jibbajibba just because you don't understand it. But you're right about the fact that they are asking for medical treatment, and that's what they deserve for searching at a place like Utah Beach, absolutely no respect ...
@Rikske77 Didn't ment to upset people... you're right about the jibbajibba part.. but for me it sounds like that.. I can't make a thing out of what they're saying.
They don't have respect, just watch how they handle the stuff they find.. These are explosives! These guys are the people that are in the newspaper... Dead!
No problem, and for the record, I don't understand them either, I'm Belgian, so I understand 4 languages (writing them is something else ;-) ), and I don't understand a word they're saying, it's a bit frustrating ... And I'm a 100 % with you on the lack of respect and the stupidity of these guys. I also use a metaldetector and I know that this sort of people are responsible for the bad name metaldetectors are getting lately. So I share your view, greetings from Belgium.

digging up "relics" from somewhere such as Omaha Beach is pretty disrespectful. A lot of people died there, best just to leave everything as is.

@RangerYorki Lake finds work sometimes but ocean water finds almost never fire because sea water is alot more corrosive and harmful to metals.

@TheSeer101 I said this in a later comment but you probably didn't see it.
Munitions left in fresh water are still dangerous.
How ever salt water eats through casings very rapidly ruining them.
Now I understand that I wrote that coment badly you should always treat munitions as if they're live.
