  • This version of "Ain't no grave" is so fantastic. I have it on an LP called "Black religious singers".

  • Do you happen to have the rest of the album that this was on? I recall a Good Friday sermon, also collected by the Lomaxes, that was on it.

  • From my research there's no such thing as a public domain recording in The United States due to conflicting state and federal laws. However a lot of old recordings are saved on Internet Archive as public domain. I haven't looked to see if this one is over there.

  • Is this public domain?

  • ...Damn

  • its sounds like wood burning in fire lol very old

  • This is from a US Library of Congress (by Alan Lomax, I think). I bought this on an LP from the LOC in the late 1960's while still a teenager. It is one of the most remarkable recordings I have heard in a life full of music.

  • Thank you for uploading this song! I have a copy of Bozie Sturdivant singing this

song on cassette that I recorded from a cd a few years ago. I'm a Johnny Cash fan but much prefer Bozie's version of Ain't No Grave Can Hold My Body Down.

  • @jennyjmae You're very welcome

  • Janet Paschal revived this song on her first solo album in the 80's.

  • my god i got goose bumps when i was listening to this song hats off bro !

  • @yourddlcrew Thank you!

  • I JUST LOVE THIS VERSION OF THIS SONG. GOD BLESS

  • There's a book and CD about Brother Claude Ely the man who wrote the song "There Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down." The book is entitled "Ain't No Grave: The Life & Legacy of Brother Claude Ely" that tells about his life, singing, and preaching. Check it out at the Brother Claude Ely website.

  • @VintageMusicFan I don't mean any dis to Brother Claude, but he was less than 20 years old when this recording was made, so it is difficult to give credence to his copyright claims.

  • Excellent rendition! Thank for sharing.

  • @acidm0nkey You're very welcome!

  • Thank's for posting It's been said that Bozie was the first to record this song the Cash version was the first I ever heard of it now I cant stop singing it all the best and G-D BLESS.

  • Well, thank you and God bless you too!

I have a local classic country station that I listen to from time to time and I've heard Johnny Cash's version on there twice lately. Very dynamic, I must say.

    Thank you for viewing!
