  • OH...I heard from Mr. Fellowes directly 10 months ago that Mr. Shuttleworth`s Ambassador was kept in a hangar at Hull airfield.

  • idiot

  • John Shuttleworth lives in Louth near where my Dad lives and the Ambassador suits him well shame that it no longer exists

  • what do u get when u cross a maxi and an allegro? maximum aggro

  • The man is a legend.

  • brilliant

  • saw him a few times in brighton - the mans a legend!!

  • lol

  • The greatest Briton ever!

  • Love John Shuttleworth - apologies for posting that video of me singing a silly song, do delete it if it annoys, but I'm proud of it!

    J

  • The Wolseley Princess (Ambassador predecessor) 2200 6 cyl. was a lovely car.

Got given a bright metallic green MOT failure & now very much regret never did find the time to get it back on the road.

  • Haha, he is quite funny.

    He's from Yorkshire, yeah? :)

  • LEGEND!!!!

  • love your loyalty john-and your song-but me, I had an allegro!

  • .... :(

  • A red interior with a key change ?I'm not knocking him down.

  • I couldn't afford an Ambassador and had to make do with a S reg Allegro

  • how long did that last? i love alllegrooos

  • I rescued my Ambassador from the breakers many moons ago. I paid £30 for it. Ran like a dream for a while, then the suspension went on it... and it went for scrap in the finish. I now have a Princess.. The Stig can have a go if he wants..!

  • MY ambassador wasn,t cheap to run, three, yes THREE cylinder head gaskets and two skims in one year, plus the suspension was expensive to service. It was roomy though, I moved house in mine and got a double wardrobe in the back but had to leave the hatch up which ruined the gas struts. Why hasn,t Top Gear let the Stig loose in one of these????

  • My Dad had a lime green Austin Princess(same shape as the Ambassador) in the 70's. Looking back on it, it was the best car we had when I was young. An 'iconic' vehicle. I hope this comment upsets any of the taste police looking in.

John Shuttleworth - Best songsmith since Morrissey.

  • can't beat a bit of shuttleworth!

  • Now that's not quite true is it? The Austin Ambassador was actually a motorcar, not a piece of shit at all. And..as it happens..some people were actually quite pleased with their Austin Ambassadors, and that's because they were very roomy and cheep to run etc. so I think that you should wash your mouth out with soap and water.

Besides which this a really good song with lots of hidden meaning just like all of Mr. Shuttleworth's other songs!

So if I were you I would watch my P's and Q's!!

  • Ha ha!!! Quality response there- I have no opinion on the austin ambassador though myself so why your response was classed as a reply to mine I don't know! Ace song though, shuttleworth always makes me laugh.

  • Shuttleworth with his 500 bus stops, need to find his Pigeons in flight ditty...

  • See above...I think

  • y not lol..

  • Have loved Shuttleworth since the start. My kids have grown up with the Y reg song (beats Humpty Dumpty!). AND I drive a Y Reg!!

  • If only Austin had this song available for their original adverts for the Ambassador then they would have sold many more!

  • I bought one of these second hand. I was gutted when the vendor came back to retrieve his furry dice two days later.

  • i think them action slacks do the trick

  • Pure genius. Shuttleworth makes me smile every time...

  • only half an hour?....love the lyrics too.

  • LOL @ goyxgoy :-)

  • LOL@'A British Leyland Princess in a beige shell suit.'

  • Does anyone have the full song?

  • HILARIOUS SONG!

  • A British Leyland Princess in a beige shell suit... that said I'd have one. If you took the badges off no one would have a clue what it was or how old.

    Nice work John.

  • I now have the start up & horn noise as my message alert tone on my mobile! Honk honk honk!! :D

  • My dad had an X reg one when I was a nippa,To me it was the original car, to this day I still can't get over all the other cars that have the horn on the steering wheel and not on the stalk. One day I'm gonna get one, I don't care if they look or drive like shit, I love 'em.

  • you were a perodua nippa?

  • Thats a G-reg!

  • Nope!! the reg is determined by the last letter on these old "suffix" number plates.

  • has anyone got pigeons in flight

  • them rear tailights look like they came off a ford transit pick up

  • I really like the Ambassador, it's ashame everyone looks at it as a comedy car.

  • oooh pcolka1!! any Austin Princess dogging sites on tgere?? But why bother with the real ladies, when Ken's inflatables are EZZY KLEEN?

  • John Shuttleworth - A man with the X Factor, and a Y reg Ambassador!!

  • LOL!

  • A very rare car nowadays.

  • He's like Manchester. He's got strange ways. This is from 500 bus stops - pure genius from 1997. Its a video diary of his British tour by bus - because his Austin Ambassador breaks down and Ken sells it for scrap. I'd love to see the rest of it again (six whole episodes) but the BBC have never repeated it or put it out on DVD.

  • you can buy it on dvd from the shuttleworths website!

  • Is John Shuttleworth the Jilted John who sings about the bloke down the chip shop thinks he's Elvis ? ?

  • That was Kirstie McColl

  • I wouldnt mind a van den plas automatic. That I believe was 500 bus stops, and that does bring back memories

  • one word, legend.

    "... or a rover ? give over !"

"give over !" : a classic northern phrase.

enjoyed the clip, thanks very much.

  • It goes:

"I'd even say no to a Roll with a chauffeur,

A brand new Toyota, A skoda? Give over!"

  • I meant Rolls. A roll with a chauffeur is something quite different!
