I rescued my Ambassador from the breakers many moons ago. I paid £30 for it. Ran like a dream for a while, then the suspension went on it... and it went for scrap in the finish. I now have a Princess.. The Stig can have a go if he wants..!
MY ambassador wasn,t cheap to run, three, yes THREE cylinder head gaskets and two skims in one year, plus the suspension was expensive to service. It was roomy though, I moved house in mine and got a double wardrobe in the back but had to leave the hatch up which ruined the gas struts. Why hasn,t Top Gear let the Stig loose in one of these????
My Dad had a lime green Austin Princess(same shape as the Ambassador) in the 70's. Looking back on it, it was the best car we had when I was young. An 'iconic' vehicle. I hope this comment upsets any of the taste police looking in.
John Shuttleworth - Best songsmith since Morrissey.
Now that's not quite true is it? The Austin Ambassador was actually a motorcar, not a piece of shit at all. And..as it happens..some people were actually quite pleased with their Austin Ambassadors, and that's because they were very roomy and cheep to run etc. so I think that you should wash your mouth out with soap and water.
Besides which this a really good song with lots of hidden meaning just like all of Mr. Shuttleworth's other songs!
Ha ha!!! Quality response there- I have no opinion on the austin ambassador though myself so why your response was classed as a reply to mine I don't know! Ace song though, shuttleworth always makes me laugh.
A British Leyland Princess in a beige shell suit... that said I'd have one. If you took the badges off no one would have a clue what it was or how old.
My dad had an X reg one when I was a nippa,To me it was the original car, to this day I still can't get over all the other cars that have the horn on the steering wheel and not on the stalk. One day I'm gonna get one, I don't care if they look or drive like shit, I love 'em.

He's like Manchester. He's got strange ways. This is from 500 bus stops - pure genius from 1997. Its a video diary of his British tour by bus - because his Austin Ambassador breaks down and Ken sells it for scrap. I'd love to see the rest of it again (six whole episodes) but the BBC have never repeated it or put it out on DVD.
i had an a,reg ,,it went well twin carb, lasted a long time, loads of room got me drum kit in boot and no need to put back seat down, loved it,,and im 46 years old..

The Wolseley Princess (Ambassador predecessor) 2200 6 cyl. was a lovely car.
Got given a bright metallic green MOT failure & now very much regret never did find the time to get it back on the road.
