She in fact does have a different voice, which is apparently lowered and changed slightly, but since I've never used Vocaloid I don't know the extent of the alerations. And just changing the colour? Actually, Zatsune Miku is supposed to represent Miku's sexy side, not dark. Unlike Hatsune Miku, Zatsune Miku is not afraid to show that she's sexy. I think Juon Kiku is supposed to represent Miku's dark/violent side.

Kasane Teto was created as a fan made vocaloid joke off of making fun of people who just speed up Miku's songs. Then, someone actually created a Teto voice and uploaded it to Utau. Teto became very big.. Now she is a Utau. :)

Well, Teto is a fan-made character, but her voice does exist, because it was made with UTAU (a program similar to Vocaloid). Some people on NicoNico made a prank saying that Teto was a new Vocaloid, when actually her voice was from UTAU. Therefore, she's half fan-made, and half not =P.
