Thankyou for the wonderful care you have taken of your beautiful little bird! Being involved in parrot rescue, seeing something like this is refreshing and heartwarming!
Thanks!! He is now fully recovered and even though the vet said his toe was broken and it would take quite a while for him to regain full use, he was climbing around with it like normal (full bending, etc) almost immediately after he got home after the splint was removed.
Yes, but we had to rearrange his cage somewhat. We put a shallow food dish on the floor of the cage in a corner and have switched to a gravity feed water dispenser because he still tries to climb up the side of the cage and, invariably, ended up stepping in the water dish and soaking his bandages.
We also give him water with a dropper after he takes his medicine to be certain he is getting enough.
3 more days and it comes off, I think I am probably just as anxious to see it off as he is.
One of my Conures flew onto his cage and he took offense (territorial issues) - When he tried to attack the Conure through the cage bars, the Conure bit his toe pretty good. It was pretty scary before I got him to the Vet, their toes are so tiny and it is very difficult to get the bleeding to stop (we keep powder made for that purpose handy at all times).
Anyhow, the prognisis is very good, his toe is healing nicely and in 5 days the splint and cone comes off (he can't wait!)
