CONGRATULATIONS to The Mighty FAMOUS FLAMES...2012 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES !! BOBBY BYRD , BOBBY BENNETT, LLOYD STALLWORTH, and JOHNNY TERRY. Now they'll finally get to join JAMES in the Rock Hall !!!
I found a first pressing of this in excellent condition at a yard sale for 50 cents- one of my most prized possessions. It just sounds so damn good on vinyl.
without this album there would be NO HIP HOP! this here is of pure legend! hell of a legacy the king left behind! timeless ART that demands respect from all ages and nationalities!
there is only one GodFather and you are listening right now, to understand this mans greatness and enduring talent you have to listen to his first concert after being release from jail to really understand that this kind of artist only come around once every fifty years or so.
James Brown was the KING of SOUL,seeing him live was something to see back in the 60's. James Brown could dance his a** off and can scream, with the famous flames and TV momma. His music will last until the end of time, raise up for the KING! We love you Mr James Brown RIP!
GREATEST ARTIST OF ALL TIME! without him no michael, or prince. and without those 2 no modern pop stars end of story all you youngsters learn your history please
@GolfTheMagicRabbit:Exactly on what basis do you make this statement? Sam & James both released their first secular records in 1956. The difference is that while Sam recorded in a Pop vein, James was pure, unfiltered R&B. Sam had an eye on the Supper Clubs & James on the Chitlin' Circuit. It wasn't until 1960 that Sam began steering his music into R&B, while James had always been there. It was this very LP which forced Pop music to come to James & it was done on HIS terms...HARD SOUL!
@GolfTheMagicRabbit: The point that I'm making is that to say that is to totally misunderstand the dynamics that were at work back then. One first gained success singing Pop with backing singers who sounded like Mitch Miller's choir, the other gained success singing hardcore R&B. As Sam wasn't singing hardcore R&B, I don't see where Sam had any particular role to play there. That young, previously repressed Pop crowd finally caught up with James & R&B. The time was right, it's as simple as that.

With no Sam Cooke, there would be no James Brown.
Sam Cooke is the greatest and original soul singer. But James Brown is still brilliant.

@GolfTheMagicRabbit Sam Cooke was GREAT, but I think James would have still found his way to the limelight one way or the other.

Yup, just another example of how beautiful art inadvertently ruins everything.

@ladytsongbyrd I get what you're saying I'm 14 and listen to Otis Redding, but I could really do without the modern pop stars.
