May I ask how long it took you to practice to play this well? I really need to pass my 8th grade exam and this song is one of the songs that I'll be playing and it sounds terrible the way I play it. I need to pass 8th grade before I graduate high school. Tips please~
@swtaznchinkghurl I have been playing piano since I was 4, and I'm doing my DMA at Rutgers University right now. So I have been playing piano (seriously, and that's my major) for over 20 years. I think I learned that whole partita with it polished maybe about two months included other recital pieces. It's a hard piece, just practice slowly, make sure you know where the important voices are, and with a steady tempo. I actually think I played too fast... lol
@flickfry1 .. In addition, Bach's music has a harmonic progression which is often per beat.. Imagine how fast is that harmonic rhythm and change so if you frequently use pedal, imagine how the different harmonies sound at the same time.. Technically, harmonies should be heard independently without mixing with the other unless it is just an inversion. I also played like this when I first attempted to play Bach and my teacher always tell me about how this should sound. I just want to help. ^_^
@flickfry1 .. That's the point. Apparently, it's piano.. I'm just pointing that it should sound different because the original instrument is Harpsichord and when you play it with pedal, the harmonies are mixing like droning different harmonies at the same time. Well, I'm not imposing that she should play like that and besides, we all have different listening interpretations. If this is good performance for you, I won't say anything rude about that, I just commented as a musician.
voici un cas typique où virtuosité ne rime pas forcément avec qualité, je suis désolé mais ou le piano résonne mal ou l'interprète joue plus vite que la musique.
This is a Baroque music and not a classical/romantic/contemporary music therefore minimal usage of pedal is only required or none at all. Furthermore, the longer notes should not be legato, it should be detached but not too much staccato.
@muscimath She's playing a piano not a harpsichord. The pedal is an integral part of the piano. Interpretation of baroque music is a fashion, not a science. If you like your Bach dry then stick to harpsichord playing and leave the rest of us to appreciate good music.
excellent - very strongly articulated over the highly complex parts.
