I've worked in the oil industry. Without a doubt, BP will ultimately blame the 11 dead workers from the Horizon rig for this massive fuck up.
Another thing to be aware of is that it's not only crude oil coming out of that hole in the ocean floor. Deadly H2S gas is also a huge factor for all those wondering why birds and mammals are turning up dead on the shore with no signs of contamination. H2S gas is the deadliest gas known to man, and is highly water soluble. Really bad news for sea life!
Perhaps they should trap the endangered birds now, before they get injured and also take their eggs into some zoo and keep them there until it is safe. That would insure no species is actually wiped out.
Save the Animals: They better notify the USDA National Animal Health Emergency Response Corps to get those veterinarians and techs down there to de-oil & treat these animals. The amount of widlife that is going to get oiled will overwhelm the cleaning teams they have down there. NAHERC needs to be called in as part of this federal response and they better do it soon.

You have to consider the manufacturing energy required to build new "green" technology. It's equal to or higher than the amount of energy you can save. Man should focus on reducing it's consumption (parasitic consumption of the earth) rather than attacking energy problems. Oil, CNG, and Nuclear really are the only "free" energy sources with minimal manufacturing.

But "the powers that be" restrict research on projects like that because it conflicts with the need for oil.
