  • Anyone see Tetris in the album cover? Hahaha. Great song.

  • McCartney II and Tug of War are two excellent back to back albums. It baffles me how often people dismiss Paul's solo efforts as lackluster and tepid. He may not have been as consistent as he was with The Beatles but he did release a great deal of excellent music following their break up. I guess many people are way too cynical nowadays to recognize the beauty of a great number of Paul's songs

  • Wow I absolutely love it!! I have this record and play it all the time, it gives that amazing vintage feel to it... And I'm only 15:)

  • This is one of Paul's Greatest Songs -- extraordinarily underrated. "where did I go wrong, my love" he sings to John; "what petty crime was I found guilty of?".

  • What a touching one. This one´s for me. :)

  • 2:18 - 2:38.

The best lyrics he's ever done on any song is here, and those 20 seconds are what I think is just the stuff legend.

  • Beautiful song, great album, and Paul McCartney in top form delivering one of the best vocal contributions he`s ever done! Fantastic. If somebody puts down Paul`s solo career, tell em`to check out this song, cause it represents Paul at his very best. This is a gem, and would have been a highlight on any beatles album.

  • The Broad Street version is better.

  • @metalshadowmario4 i disagree

  • great macca song

  • i have to make a cover of this song, always one of my paul mccartney's favourite :D.

  • Crear song.

  • I do agree with George Martin: this is one of McCartney's best vocals.

  • "what petty crime was i found guilty of" i suspect a reference to getting nicked in japan. bless.

  • @beatlegreg07 oh I never thought of that but now that you point it out I think it may be about that

  • @beatlegreg07 what year was that?

  • @Stevesk0011 Paul`s drug bust in Japan was back in 1980!

  • @beatlegreg07 No, it was written back in the 70`s. A demo was made in 1979, so the Tokyo bust was not the reason for that line.

  • Play it live Paul !

  • Perhaps because the beauty of his melodies is so impressive, but Paul has always been underrrated as a lyricist who comes up with highly original topics.

  • I love it. I think Tug of War will be the next Paul solo album I buy.

  • I much prefer his version of this song from the sound track of "I Give my Regards to Broad Street"

  • @cjhoylemusic - I love both, it works well in that little medley on GMRTBS, and the drums sound much better.

  • It's beyond comprehension how anyone could dislike this song; 4 people must make that doctor's appointment immediately!

  • Wonderlust is indeed a song that should be the anthem of all musicians.

  • There is not a weak moment on this album. He should have let George produce everything. The one thing it does miss, and I am sure Paul would agree, is the absence of a true band, backing him. Don't get me wrong session men have their place, but sometimes it leaves the music to, what the word, cold? Sometimes a missed chord played with passion is better then something played with precision but with no passion.

  • @kevinocooldaddy

I believe Ringo and Denny Laine are on this track....

  • Great song this one!!!!!!!!!

  • Maybe the reason why he never sang this in any concert is because all the blending in the chorus is his voice. Great voice.^_^

  • I love Paul McCartney so much that I cry.

  • WTF??? Why is this song is so underrated? This is not a good song, but a great song. I hope we do a good job in passing this music to the next generation. Because this is not music, this is art. His vocals are the best instruments of nature.

  • Makes me cry! Paul is Brill!!!!

  • Simply...one of Macca's greatest songs

  • I eared this music When I saw "give my regards to broad street" at first time, in 1990. And I never forget that. So brilliant, magik... this music is fabulous.

    congrats, Paul!

thanks piggies1 to put it in youtube!

    regards from brasil;

  • @popsmed Exactly the same way I "discovered" this album! Loved it from the moment I saw that movie. Weird movie, but GREAT soundtrack!

  • he never sang this song at any concert ?

  • bought this album 1984 Pudu Raya...Malaysia

  • Loved this album. Played it loads back then. Still sound fresh.

  • This is one of Paul's greatest, so perfect in so many ways, LOVE the counter-melody at the end!!!

  • This may be my favorite song from the Tug of War album :)

  • i owned tug of war thru press to play as new releases. the version on broadstreet is more polished.lights out wanderlust was in fact what did happen. i can hear john chuckle at the mention of 'sir paul'.

  • This has to be my most favorite of all songs in the world, and this is my first time hearing it.

  • P.S. I forgo to mention that I love this song.

  • Aulthough, having said that...at the time this came out I was 17 and I thought 40 was well over the hill. I'm 46 now but I ike it.

  • He was only 40.

  • This song is one of his solo best. His voice really sounded crisp back then

  • This is a great song and one of Paul's best.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • fab song

  • Great song indeed, thanks for posting. Please note that it inspired the great powerpop band of the same name: please search - " Wanderlust: Before We Fade"

  • GORGEOUS.

  • Paul looks really cute on that album cover

  • Paul got better music. Long Live Sir Paul.

  • legendary

  • Paul is great But John is Better !

  • @spazzcat03 That's funny because he never was and never will be! Long live saint Paul!!! (It's personal preference :)

  • @ThePetepiper Yeah sir paul totally ownzzz john , and this is in my opinion his best album !

  • George Martin - who produced this album - said this was one of Paul's best vocals, ever.

  • @MegaObserver1 Hey, where'd you read that? Not that I don't believe you or something silly, but every time I read a quote from one of the Beatles or George Martin, I always want to know where it came from so I can read more lol

  • First heard this in a red sea beach bar on a nice sunny day chilling out. A real memorable experience. A real musical standout amongst the other great music being played. Immediately went out and bought the album

  • A freakin amazing song, it helped inspire me to make my music!

  • Oh, wow...I forgot about this amazing song, till just now. I had to look it up, immediately. Thanks so much for having the post here...cheers...

  • great album great song great artist

  • i thought this was a song about looking for a brighter future

  • I can tell you for a FACT this song is about a real boat, named Wanderlust. McCartney chartered it for a week in the British Virgin Islands. It is a REAL Trimarain and I know it, because I was once a Crew member aboard it. I was not there during the McCartney charter. do a search on facebook for Wanderlust - you will see pictures of McCartney and various crew pictures over the years of chartering it.

  • @tnknoxrealtor

    thank's for your info.

    sincere

  • I am hoping he will sing this one day in concert.

  • I fell in love with this song in his movie. So unfortunate that more people don't appreciate it.

  • I first heard this song when my brother Nelson bought the album.

I fell in love with Wanderlust.

    It is a classic now.

    Thanks Nelson.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Beautiful song. Favourite off of Tug of War.

Would be great to hear some of Paul's eighties songs in concert.

  • Good song, I don't care what it's about.

  • The boat is this world

  • beutifull

  • McCartney - master of the countermelody

  • Reminds me of Rocky I & II.

  • Wow - das Philip Jones Brass Ensemble UND ein Ex-Beatle ZUSAMMEN ... meine beiden Lieblingsgruppierungen ... da krieg ich 'ne Gänsehaut ...

  • well lets get this in prospective. first off, i'm not going to diss the story of Macca and company being busted for the weed. but don't ya think he (or they) had it before they left port? screw the 11 mile rule. now it's ok. uh.. hello. true or not it is an awesome song!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the info on what the song is about

  • smoke on the water

  • This song is about a drug bust he was in on a boat that sailed within the 11 mile limit. They were on it, in a mobile studio, recording the London Town album.

The captain said they could smoke once out of range but then went back in so he could get Macca & Co in trouble and become famous himself, ie "captain's out to make his mark."

  • A ha, great story. Thanks, Ed

  • Where did you get this info? It would be good to put it on the wikipedia page for this song.

  • I read it in some unauthorized, tell-all McCartney biography that I received as a gift some years ago.

I've never posted on Wikipedia and never thought it all that interesting.

    Thanks for the suggestion, though.

  • Great song.

  • Beautiful song!

  • Wanderlust was a name of a boat Pauled sailed on. Ed
