  • I love your videos!! do you mind if i use some for my own? (of course with your logo on it :)

  • I do offer free use of my material for non-profit/non-commercial projects such as YouTube videos. The full legal use and YouTube/copyright/ad info is available at the links in my channel description box :-) Cheers and good luck with your projects(s)!

  • How fascinating! Thank you!

  • This was one of my first shots with the EX-F1 - glad you liked it... thanks for watching and commenting! =)

  • It is really cool! Amazing. Thanx for uploading it.

  • Glad you enjoyed - thanks so much for watcing and commenting :-)

  • i watched about 6 of your vids so far ( both channels} i have to say ....that is some cool stuff .... I;m really surprised and somewhat disappointed with the view count - more should see your vids

  • Sometimes I am surprised by which videos get mega views vs. mine, but then I guess that just goes to show what people really want to see! XD Thanks for the great comment! =)

  • this is a cool video --- I don't think I"ve seen it before but you do so many of them I can't remember which ones I've seen--but I still like looking at them over and over again :-)

  • Indeed I do shoot a LOT of video! Well I'm gld you're getting some enjoyment out of all these - thanks for visiting :-)

  • Wow, there are very few people who've uploaded high quality footage shot on the EX-F1 and upscaled it to HD. Good stuff!

  • Sometimes I get lucky with lighting and focus but most of the time it's difficult to get good clarity with such low native resolution. Shooting lots of footage with lots of light lands me the best chances of getting a few good scenes! Thanks for watching and commenting :-)

  • You're welcome! Yeah, the lighting thing is "interesting" with this camera. lol

So far the best for outside shooting seems to be in full morning or evening sunlight, with you shooting the site the sun is shining on. Zooming in so the background is nice and soft improves the image a lot too.

  • FX-1 eine Nr. besser, aber mit der EX EC100,

    kann man auch was filmen.

  • Thank you for paying homage to one of Gods best creations. Im hoping that whatever reason that their numbers are decreasing is found soon.

  • Me too... It wouldn't surprise me if all the new genetically engineered plants and/or widespread use of pestacides doesn't have a lot to do with it. Like that old TV commercial used to say "It's not nice to fool [with] mother nature!"

  • Chamelionroses likes your equipment

  • Um... yea XD

  • Very awesome. Thanks for the video.

    You have nice equipment.

  • Great comment! Thanks so much for visiting =)

  • nice vedio and music too.

  • So glad you enjoyed - Thanks for watching and commenting! =)

  • Beautiful video! Great job! (:

  • Thanks so much for watching and the great comment! :-)

  • Excellent video full of amazing images!

    Well job

    Lillo

  • Great footage, I have 2 hives of honey bees, its nearly time to take the honey off and jar it up :) They are facinating insects, each has their own specific "job" within the colony, such structured lives for such tiny creatures.

  • They certainly aren't as precise as hummingbirds and dragonflies.

  • Good thing they're low-mass and can handle crashing into things!

  • To watch things at a different pace than normal is pure delight. Like understanding the details even better. Thank you for this superb video!

    Tara

  • I think that's what I find so fascinating about doing all these time-shifted videos too! Thanks so much, Tara, for watching and commenting! :-)

  • awesome vid. once again :)

  • Glad you enjoyed - thanks for watching! :-)

  • Great video again :D

Btw. What kind of camera you use to take these slow motion and time lapse videos? Colours and quality are awesome.

  • I use a Canon 5S and SX10 for most of my time lapses. For slow motion, I've used a Canon HF100 (for 1/4-speed SM) and a Casio EX-F! for the really slow slow-motion stuff. :-)

  • Impresionante, un gran video, me ha sorprendido la habilidad que has tenido para captar esos momentos. Excelente,

    Paz y Amor

    Saludos

    Noelia

  • Thanks so much for watching, Noelia! :-)

  • Love the bees JC.... I like the wild music you post with them too! Did you always want to work for National Geographic?

Keep 'em coming, you've got quite a fan base out here

    Kym

  • Thanks for the great comment! I'm especially enjoying having a place to put my music now. I wrote this tune in 1993 and it's just been sitting along with the rest of my music since then. :-)

Yes, I've been a Nat Geo fan since I was a kid. I've always loved exploring/discovering, and since I tend to be very creative, all these things really come together nicely in these videos. Thanks so much for all your attention! :-)

  • I didn't know you wrote your own music too! Wow you really are creative. I just liked the music and didn't realize you wrote it yourself. COOL!

  • That's great to hear! It's been sitting and gathering dust for a long time - good to finally get it out there where it might be appreciated. :-)

  • The way they move by arching and twisting their body is neat to see. Another great video, JC.

  • I thought it was cool to see the bee look in the direction it was turning... amazing the things you get to see when you CAN see them! :-)

  • Love it. The Bee's Knees if you will.

  • Thanks, Lo! :-)

  • Brilliant as always ! Thanks

  • Thanks so much, Molly! :-)

  • I gave your YT name and this video address a shout out on twitter

  • Cool - thanks! :-) =D

  • Now that is something! Doesn't beat your Hummingbird Slo Mo's but it is still really neat seeing them so slow..

  • Unfortunately this camera doesn't do super hi-res at high frame rates, so that means I'm going to have to get REALLY close to get the detail anywhere as nice as the hummingbird ones. Interesting stuff even so - thanks for watching :-)

  • very nice

  • Thanks so much! =)

  • super... loved seeing such detail!

  • Hopefully I get even closer shots as I learn to use this camera. Glad you enjoyed my progress so far - thanks for watching! :-)

  • Haha, Well ain't that something??

  • Thanks for checking it out :-)

  • WOOT! Welcome to the F1 club! I can't wait to see what other magic you can squeeze out of the camera! Very happy to see you got a good deal on the new camera.

  • I really do have Ken to thank (and did!) for this event! I'm using it daily now and really soaking up the learning curve... One thing for sure - TONS of light is absolutely mandatory with this camera!

Hopefully I can think-up some stuff to do with it that hasn't already been done too many times already, or at least new ways of showing it! :-)

  • The tough part is finding original stuff to film. I'll film something thinking it hasn't been done before - only to find out it has. But that's ok, there's always different ways to present a subject.

  • I agree - I figure I'm going to shoot everything I see and if I like it, I'll post it!

  • Post them even if you don't like them!

  • Hahahaha yea - I have the JCMDIweirdstuff channel for the odds and ends! XD

  • Ok Mr. 25 Channels.. lol I'm missing out and need to subscribe that that one! Thanks

  • Would have looked great if you really zoomed into the Bee. Good video, always very enjoyable.

  • I'm just getting started with this camera but I'm planning some really close-up macro shots of stuff. The real trick is trying to keep up with the subjects... What you see here actually happened 20 times faster when I shot it! XD Thanks so much for watching and commenting :-)

  • For whatever reason, I get good results setting the camera to "macro" and filming subjects up to 10 feet away or so. I have found that using less zoom produces crisper images. Especially at 1200, perhaps you'll have better results with that speed than me.

  • I'll try that. I use the manual focus as much as I can and have only used the macro setting for close-up stuff when I was too lazy to set it manually.

I've noticed that the zoom does kinda suck a bit, too, but I'm thinking it may not be the lens.

I was getting pretty good results on a tripod even at 1200 so it may be that it's very sensitive to camera movement when zoomed, even at high shutter speeds and frame rates. I'll have to experiment a little. Interesting stuff so far!

  • I'll sometime autofocus, then hit focus lock. I'll also play with the White Balance settings- set it to overcast if it is sunny, etc. I often find many of my 600fps are overexposed on bright days- too much light. Some of the settings have opposite effects like using Macro for non-macro stuff, etc. hehe. I'm still facinated by the camera and the life long dream of filming in High Speed. I've experimented with filters, (UV, ND, Polarizing, etc) and they seem to confuse the camera.

  • I used the focus lock a few times but discovered that if you're not in contiuous AF mode, half-pressing the shutter acts like an AF/lock combo, so you can shoot video any time afterwards. Just half-press the shutter again set a new focus. Pretty convenient. :-)

I haven't played with the white balance much yet, but if the lighting is too intense (rare!) I just flip over to (S)hutter priority mode and bump up the shutter speed to 1/4000 or so. So many cool tricks to learn - this is great! :-)

  • And if you are filming someone arc welding or happen upon a supernova, you can crank that up to 1/40,000! Have you given the Burst mode a try yet?

  • Hmmm arc welding! ...yer giving my ideas! Hahaha I haven't tried the burst mode yet... I was thinking of using that for some higher-resolution, high-speed experiments, but the timing would have to be right on!

  • Remember the pre-record mode! It makes timing a shot effortless. (see page 46 in the PDF manual) It works very well- you'll never miss a shot.

  • Yup - lots more learning to do! I'd bet that would be very useful for lightning (another one of my favorite subjects that we never ge there!) and such :-)

  • This is GREAT!!! Truly amazing....... Allen

  • Thanks so much! :-)

  • Thanks so much for watching! :-)

  • lol!!

  • Glad you got a kick out of the drunken-looking little buggers! Hahaha XD

  • 0:16 we have liftoff lol :)

  • Yea - but it looks like just barely! Hahaha They sure look under-powered and clumbsy at this speed XD Thanks for checking it out :-)

  • lol with this speed they look so cute, little bit like robots

  • "Bee-bots"! Hahaha They do look somewhat mechanical :-) Thanks for checking it out!

  • whoa how much did a camara like that cost you? mine only does 30fps xD

and by the way did you give it beer or something? because it looked pretty drunk

  • Yea - they fly like drunks, don't they?! Hahahaha XD

I got this EX-F1 for $750 online. They list for $1000. The Casio EX-FH20 does similar speeds, costs about half, and is much easier to find. :-)

  • Thanks for giving this information...its good to read some comments, I was going to ask you..its amazing how you capture this bee, its so well done and they look sweet funny on air : ) thank you & fav.

  • They sure are much different looking close-up and slowed-down! Thanks for watching and commenting :-)

  • this is cool.....what camera are you using?

  • This was shot with a Casio EX-F1. Cool camera j- ust getting started with it. :-)

  • Amazing JC.

    Just amazing ; )

  • Thanks for stopping by, Ray! :-)

  • very nice bio-hover crafts! ;-)

  • Definitely! A little less agile than the hummingbirds, but fun to watch nevertheless! :-)

  • They're beautiful. I've really fallen in love with bees lately.

  • ...and I like their product, too! :-) Thanks for watching!

  • Awesome just Awesome!! :)

  • Thanks! :-)

  • They are strange looking in slo mo. LOL

  • Bugs are pretty strange anyway, but even more so when you get to really examine them and their bee-havior (grinn) up close :-D

  • Once again, great work.

  • Glad you enjoyed - thanks so much for watching! =D

  • Amazing....great video!!

    Hugs~Nancy

  • Thanks for stopping by, Nancy! :-)

  • It looks so crazy, stunning

  • Indeed nature is just amazing when you get to see it up close! Thanks for watching :-)

  • very cool. looks like hes drunk lol

  • I was thinking the same thing! Natural sugars CAN ferment in nature so it's possible a bee might get plastered at the local flower pub and then get whacked for a DUI (FUI?) on the way home! Hahahaha XD

  • Maaan...FANTASTIC photography! I didn't realize how clumsy a bee actually was until this footage. Good stuff, JC :)

    Cool tune too!

    5 stars.

    64m >:-)

  • Yea hahahaha XD they're kinda dufus when you really get to see them up close and slow! Houseflies are even funnier - they tumble in mid air and smash into things - it's a wonder they live more than a few minutes! :-) Thanks for checking it out!

  • This is just amazing, thank you for sharing. 5* and faved! BB

  • I'm finding it very cool to see what things look like when you speed them up or slow them down! Thanks for watching and commenting! :-)
