i watched about 6 of your vids so far ( both channels} i have to say ....that is some cool stuff .... I;m really surprised and somewhat disappointed with the view count - more should see your vids
Sometimes I am surprised by which videos get mega views vs. mine, but then I guess that just goes to show what people really want to see! XD Thanks for the great comment! =)
this is a cool video --- I don't think I"ve seen it before but you do so many of them I can't remember which ones I've seen--but I still like looking at them over and over again :-)
Sometimes I get lucky with lighting and focus but most of the time it's difficult to get good clarity with such low native resolution. Shooting lots of footage with lots of light lands me the best chances of getting a few good scenes! Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
You're welcome! Yeah, the lighting thing is "interesting" with this camera. lol
So far the best for outside shooting seems to be in full morning or evening sunlight, with you shooting the site the sun is shining on. Zooming in so the background is nice and soft improves the image a lot too.
Me too... It wouldn't surprise me if all the new genetically engineered plants and/or widespread use of pestacides doesn't have a lot to do with it. Like that old TV commercial used to say "It's not nice to fool [with] mother nature!"
Great footage, I have 2 hives of honey bees, its nearly time to take the honey off and jar it up :) They are facinating insects, each has their own specific "job" within the colony, such structured lives for such tiny creatures.
I use a Canon 5S and SX10 for most of my time lapses. For slow motion, I've used a Canon HF100 (for 1/4-speed SM) and a Casio EX-F! for the really slow slow-motion stuff. :-)
Thanks for the great comment! I'm especially enjoying having a place to put my music now. I wrote this tune in 1993 and it's just been sitting along with the rest of my music since then. :-)
Yes, I've been a Nat Geo fan since I was a kid. I've always loved exploring/discovering, and since I tend to be very creative, all these things really come together nicely in these videos. Thanks so much for all your attention! :-)
Unfortunately this camera doesn't do super hi-res at high frame rates, so that means I'm going to have to get REALLY close to get the detail anywhere as nice as the hummingbird ones. Interesting stuff even so - thanks for watching :-)
WOOT! Welcome to the F1 club! I can't wait to see what other magic you can squeeze out of the camera! Very happy to see you got a good deal on the new camera.
I really do have Ken to thank (and did!) for this event! I'm using it daily now and really soaking up the learning curve... One thing for sure - TONS of light is absolutely mandatory with this camera!
Hopefully I can think-up some stuff to do with it that hasn't already been done too many times already, or at least new ways of showing it! :-)
The tough part is finding original stuff to film. I'll film something thinking it hasn't been done before - only to find out it has. But that's ok, there's always different ways to present a subject.
I'm just getting started with this camera but I'm planning some really close-up macro shots of stuff. The real trick is trying to keep up with the subjects... What you see here actually happened 20 times faster when I shot it! XD Thanks so much for watching and commenting :-)
For whatever reason, I get good results setting the camera to "macro" and filming subjects up to 10 feet away or so. I have found that using less zoom produces crisper images. Especially at 1200, perhaps you'll have better results with that speed than me.
I'll try that. I use the manual focus as much as I can and have only used the macro setting for close-up stuff when I was too lazy to set it manually.
I've noticed that the zoom does kinda suck a bit, too, but I'm thinking it may not be the lens.
I was getting pretty good results on a tripod even at 1200 so it may be that it's very sensitive to camera movement when zoomed, even at high shutter speeds and frame rates. I'll have to experiment a little. Interesting stuff so far!
I'll sometime autofocus, then hit focus lock. I'll also play with the White Balance settings- set it to overcast if it is sunny, etc. I often find many of my 600fps are overexposed on bright days- too much light. Some of the settings have opposite effects like using Macro for non-macro stuff, etc. hehe. I'm still facinated by the camera and the life long dream of filming in High Speed. I've experimented with filters, (UV, ND, Polarizing, etc) and they seem to confuse the camera.
I used the focus lock a few times but discovered that if you're not in contiuous AF mode, half-pressing the shutter acts like an AF/lock combo, so you can shoot video any time afterwards. Just half-press the shutter again set a new focus. Pretty convenient. :-)
I haven't played with the white balance much yet, but if the lighting is too intense (rare!) I just flip over to (S)hutter priority mode and bump up the shutter speed to 1/4000 or so. So many cool tricks to learn - this is great! :-)
Hmmm arc welding! ...yer giving my ideas! Hahaha I haven't tried the burst mode yet... I was thinking of using that for some higher-resolution, high-speed experiments, but the timing would have to be right on!
Yup - lots more learning to do! I'd bet that would be very useful for lightning (another one of my favorite subjects that we never ge there!) and such :-)
Thanks for giving this information...its good to read some comments, I was going to ask you..its amazing how you capture this bee, its so well done and they look sweet funny on air : ) thank you & fav.
I was thinking the same thing! Natural sugars CAN ferment in nature so it's possible a bee might get plastered at the local flower pub and then get whacked for a DUI (FUI?) on the way home! Hahahaha XD
Yea hahahaha XD they're kinda dufus when you really get to see them up close and slow! Houseflies are even funnier - they tumble in mid air and smash into things - it's a wonder they live more than a few minutes! :-) Thanks for checking it out!
I love your videos!! do you mind if i use some for my own? (of course with your logo on it :)
