  • I dont mean to sound stupid.... But did the HMS Illustrious only shoot harrier jump jets?

  • @jbancroft888

Harrier was the only thing with a jet engine that could take of and land there. The American Wasp has no ski jump because they are much bigger ships than the Invincible Class, 40,000 tons vs 20,000 tons, more parking space and longer takeoff run.

  • @jbancroft888 yes, the only fixed wing aircraft that could fly and land on HMS Illustrious was the the harrier.

  • @Leftopeningdoors Okay thanks!

  • Whats the tv show?

  • Just think people in Argentina thought that their navy actually managed to sink her!!! You have to laugh at their pathetic attempt at nationalism!!!

  • the harrier is a deathtrap to me, id prefer the F-35C

  • I worked on Lusty and Ark, They had years of service left in them, We should have handed Ark to the USA rather than scrap her...seems the only harriers flying off our ships now are those on my mates model of HMS Hermes...British goverment has made a boo boo here...

  • @AdmiralOgle The government was looking for any excuse, not making a sensible strategic decision.

  • @AdmiralOgle A nice gesture but we don't really need more carriers, we have something like 11 super carriers and 10 helicopter carriers which also the Harriers are flown from. I reckon though maybe our other friends like Australia can use them.

  • @OlderG0ds if you didnt need harriers you wouldnt of bought our entire fleet, marines would be last get f-35 in large amounts and harrier is much less expensive and far easier to run, and is perfect for wwhat marine corp is set up to do, its a proven aircraft. and thats exactly why marines did buy them.

  • Nice to see the UK and US working togther. The next time the Argies get fruity we'll leave some for you guys.

  • I like seeing Stuff frim the Uk & usa like this

  • welcome aboard united states!!

  • We should give US our harriers, I mean ours are just sitting in a hanger perfectly able to fly, about to be scrapped because they have nothing to fly off.

  • @matty181190 Ummmm.. did you read the newspaper a couple of weeks back.. We let 20 of them go to the USMC for peanuts... probally only to buy them back again in the not too distant future lmao.

  • @oscarfish38 lol yh i heard bout that

  • @matty181190 We're about to get rid of ours as well.

  • @matty181190 We sold them for a few million. Still can't believe it. The mere fact they wanted them should tell us they were worth keeping - along with an operational carrier! But no...

  • @matty181190 We have given the US our harriers. Although you did post that 8 months ago, lol.

  • Harriers waiting for deployment, I repeat, harriers waiting for deployment.

  • Jesus is coming soon! repent and prepare for the lord

  • @bass109 Do you think he could pick some bread for me on the way here

  • hey I saw now Gy Sgt Wilson...kick ass

  • The RAF have already lost 619 squadron of the GR9 harrier :( But the RN are getting the F-35 which will be cool!

  • Isn't the harrier going out of service?

  • @xXDynamiiteXx yeah but in 2014.

  • this aircraft the real name is " KILLER ARGENTINOS" ijijiji cruel kidding but is real see MALVINAS WAR

  • @TheIceman567 que what???? may i help you???

  • Where can I see the rest of the documentry?

  • only 7 kill streaks ooo use hardline to use the harrier ..... ONLY 6 KILLSTREAKS C MON

  • haha my dad served on the illustrious

  • 1:31 that harrier almost crashed at that hard landing! it even bounced up from it, and no one here noticed! huh!

  • @1200com They always land like that.

  • @markf1512 Oh, nevermind. Thought you were saying they always hover in. It's not a bad landing until they start to pop outriggers

  • @1200com I mean, it's a moving ship! The camera might be anchored to the deck but the ship certainly isn't sitting still.

  • @1200com they are bouncy

  • @1200com They always land like that

  • @IgnoRantJack only on the boat. At home they land conventional

  • where can i find this docu/programme??? i would love to see it..

  • i rape with these in cod

  • airman is not a rank

  • good job Brits, thanks for a great aircraft.

  • @blueflame53

    Cheers

  • @blueflame53 :P Thanks for your various pieces of tech and weaponary you have given us too :P

  • Not being conversant with the hand and arm signals used on the flight deck, what is going on at 0:12-0:13? Seems the pilot was signalled to move forward, but shook his head "no." and then signalled back to the director, pointing downward.

  • @4325air In my opinion the flight deck guy asked him if he was for a take off and the U.S. pilot told him thats hes for parking(staying on the carrier).

  • Did this documentary ever get made etc?

  • I flew one in the mid 90's. One hell of a ride!

  • always wanted to be a pilot...but im only

    5'5....

  • You Americans will always have the Brits watching your back, and we know you got ours!! thank god!

  • @donnelnl HELL YEA!!!!

  • @donnelnl Too right mate!

  • Actually correction to my last post...i think the Ark Royal Is still the fleet flag ship, think she took over the role in 2007

  • I was always under the Impression that HMS Invincible was the flag ship not HMS Illustrious

  • Invincible was decommissioned in 2005, She still remains part of and available to the Navy but is not operational

  • Lusty took over as the 'Fleet' Flagship from the invincible when she was decommissioned, then when the Ark Royal came out of re-fit she assumed the role as Fleet flagship..

  • I wish she hadn't been. The should keep the Invincible Class operation even after the Elisabeth class is finished. The Royal Navy needs more amphibious carriers, the HMS ocean isn't enough.

  • i agree but then the Navy is skint....but we do have the new carriers to get excited about, AND the new T45's, now thats a sexy ship!!!

  • what is a flag ship?

  • Did you get an education? It is the ship that holds the Fleets admiral, a command centre for the fleet

  • So just because I dont have a detailed knowledge of the Royal Navy, I didnt get education? Pissoff

  • Well, flag ships are in all western navies. And the point is, you dont even know who are risking there lives to defend your freedom

  • Ive just seen your display picture, your about 10 years old, I feel no need to further this conversation, with stupid boys that beieve they know everything about trivial subjects, and expect everyone else to know about trivial subjects aswell.

I dont know who is defending my freedom? Would you like me to name every man/woman, Private Soldier, Rating, Airman, Marine that fights for my freedom?

  • The RAF doesnt have anything called "Airmen" thats the USAF, and im 15, and I've already had a meeting with my local liason officer... only a few months. And you have got a Profile picture, for one of two reasons 1) You like to pretend your young to small children, or 2) your ugly as fuck

  • How do u mean theire is no such thing as an airmen? How much shit do you talk sunshine?

Go on that website an look under category, fill in the dots you retarded fck. still no such thing as airmen in the RAF? what are the Soldier/Seamen/Marine

    equivalent called?

Ur 15, you look about 5 mate.

You need to shut your mouth for 2 reasons 1) Gobby pricks like you would get smaked in the face if this was a 1on1 conversation. 2) You talk alot of shit and you have no idea what your talking about.

  • No, I dont look "about 5" and i dont call people listen to "chipmunk ft ironik" mates, or for that matter, people who come from areas where "Gobby pricks" get "Smaked" (There's a C in smacked, i might be 15, but i can still bloody spell) and also, "theire" isnt a word. You've competely changed your tone, from making out Airman was a term for everyone in the RAF, when clearly it is just a term used for Men with out a warrant or commision.

  • You look about 5 mate, a little young boy, sign up at 15 yr 9 month and youll get taken the piss out of. And you dont know how old I am. I wouldnt smack you, its just you would, you talk shit, and I can assure you you would not be talking this shit on the street.

  • I couldnt give a fuck whether you liked my taste of music or not, fact is, they do alot better than you and earn more £ than u sitting in your computer chair talking shit.

Hold on a minute you just said this "...doesnt have anything called "Airmen"...", which implies, airmen dont exist at all in the RAF. Again you talk shit, people will see it, and think wtf are you on about. I believe you thought there was nothing such thing as a an airmen.

  • I did not include anything about Commisioned officers, again, youre including something without any sense THERE IS A FUCKING DIFERENCE BETWEEN AN OFFICER AND A SOLDIER EQUIVALENT RANK and I know that, twat. I wasnt making out anything, you said that yorself.

  • yorself? You mean yourself? And you have a massive experiance with the military, you chav? No, I however come from a military family, and have plenty more knowledge of if I'll get "youll get taken the piss out of"

  • mmm watever, im not writing an english essay, ur not my english teacher, therfor i feel no need to corresct my spelling to aholes. Being in the cadet forces doesnt mean you have experience of the military, no, im not a chav, and no, i dont talk shit like you do. you do not know who I am, you do not know if my dad, uncle, brother, cousin is a serviceman. It means nothing that you come from a family of serviceman, you havent served yourself. You dont have more knowledge than anyone, fact is...

  • If you havent served, youve got about the same knowledge as me, because I can go on wikipedia and find out anything I want.

  • there is no such thing as airmen in the RAF.... we call them aircrew (if flying) or ground crew.....our rank structure is a little bit different to the US... where abouts u from???

  • London, England mate, that is where I am from. And if there is no such thing as an airman in the RAF, why do they themselfs advertise it on their recruitment website. I have a source, you and Guyisaritetwat however do not. unless you can prove me otherwise.

  • oh i do have a source....my Dad.... he's in the RAF..........there is no such rank as Airman

  • ww(w)rafmoduk(/)careers/jobs/airtechavionics.cfm

  • this link sent me to Aircraft Technician??? y u send me there????

  • your just dum, i sent you that link because it has type of role (officer, NCA, and Airmen)

  • I am not dumb.......I have lived on RAF bases all my life....my dad has been in the RAF for 24 years....I know what I am talking about! Airman is NOT a Rank

  • Your blowing what I said out of proportion. I NEVER said an Airman was a rank, I know this, an Airman is a type which has enlisted ranks , just like a Soldier, Rating and Marine all but 1 of which is not rank. Find where I said Airman was a rank, an example of an Airman would be an LAC, SAC, J tech Corporal, Sergeant etc, all of which have no commisionings. Before you comment on my replies, clarify yourself before trying to correct me

  • sorry...i misread it!!!!

  • ok kl

  • Invincible isnt even in service anymore..

  • i think they got it right and wrong, it is my understanding that the Victory is the flagship of the Royal Navy BUT BUT BUT old Lusty has taken over now from the Ark Royal as the 'Fleet Flagship'....

  • Harrier was designed in the late 50's and built in the 60's..

shame the Americans never got to fly the best harrier, goodbye Sea harrier!

  • not true - a guy just bought one from UK (ex USMC Pilot). Google "Art Nalls Sea Harrier." The only privately held jump jet in the world...

  • They actually redesigned theirs a bit. We gave them the harrier, and they added their own avionics to it, and in return they will give us the F35B, which is a Yank by design and origin, but we'll be adding our own kits to them, assuming they give us the source codes.

  • a white michael jordan, lol!

  • the news dude is a bit dumb harrier was designed in the 60's and HMS Illustrious isnt the flag ship the ark royal

  • actually it WAS the flagship-- they rotate the designation regularly. PS: I'm the news dude who posted the video.

  • @mjinsav lol.

do you have any full length videos of brits and americans together?

  • You wanna know whats the flagship of the Royal Navy? The HMS Victory hehehehe

  • oh those mongs did not just say lusty was the flagship did they? what a shit brained nation...

  • @paulmitchell22 Yes, the AV-8 was designed in the 60's...or rather the British Harrier was designed in the 60s. The American Marine Corps version was redesigned to meet our needs starting inthe 60's and the current model (the AV-8B Harrier II Plus) is almost a completely different aircraft with only the fuselage being the same as the original. New engine, new controls, new avionics, new weapons.

  • @Flash75able Woops, forgot to mention that the Marines started showing an interest in the late 70's and made the first active squadrons in the 80's. So technically, from an American standpoint he is right. The American version is quite different from the British version.

  • @Flash75able same engine, all the RR Pegasus engines fitted to every harrier in the world are hand built by RR in Britain

  • @fairclought7 Yup, forgot to mention that. What I meant was the current Harriers have a better enging than the original. The F402-RR-406 and its predecessor were inferior to the current F402-RR-408B. ALL Harriers (American and British) have the same engines (with minor configuration changes) which are manufactured by Rolls Royce at their plant in Bristol. Though the point is now moot, the Brits retired the entire fleet two months ago.

  • @Flash75able Thanks for pointing that out about the engines. Great machines, though they can be a pain sometimes for maintenance.

    BTW...at 1:22 is a friend of mine (he's a Gunny now). He's Ordnance, I am Power Plants.

  • @Flash75able Yes retiring the harriers GR9s and Shars was a huge blunder and mistake by our foolish government and it is still a very sore point with the patriotic people of our country, it means we will have no fixed wing aircraft to protect the fleet until the Queen Elizabeth class carriers and F-35cs are ready to be commissioned in 2020, its just disgusting that for the first time in almost 100 years we have no aircraft to protect the fleet. super hornets are an interim option??

  • @paulmitchell22 Lol yeah... Although now the flag ship is now HMS Albion

  • @paulmitchell22 not anymore...

  • i dont think the USMC us harrier GR7's do they? they use F-22's and F14's and F16's and what not.

  • usmc use us version of the harrier and f-18s, us navys use f-18s and various support planes, f-14 is retired,f-22s dont operate from carriers. ^-^

  • aaah that makes abit more sense lol ok thanks for clearing up that issue lol

  • no problem ^-^

  • Dis good shit man!!

  • My husband spent 24 yrs with Harriors .I miss the USMC so bad~

  • wot u on about, first time brits and americans joined, americans were british settelers and we have always been allied,

  • I was thinking that too lol

  • lmao Michael Jordan
