Back when every band had a conga player. That had to be the sweetest gig in a cool band...even better than the tambourine!! You could stash drinks behind the congas and scope out chicks from the stage...SWEET!!
@slotstikskimboards there probably were fat girls in the audience but they were made to dance in the darkened corners of the studio while the camera checked out all the slim girls who looked good in hot pants and mini skirts. Extra props for the black girl dancing behind the band.
@katymagnets to all those hating on fat girls, I grew up in the 90's and damn I like something I can hug on to, and push, and not worry about breaking.
Something's very fishy about this video. It's clearly not from 2008 as the poster states (Marc Bolan had been dead for about 30 years in 2008... and that is clearly him fronting the group), and it also appears as though the original sound had been swapped for a studio version of Get It On.
@MattRamsayMoore top of the pops barely ever recorded audio live apart from singing. watch nirvana's smells like teen spirit on totp and youll see what i mean
@coupaydeville I was thinking the same thing. But he says Yeah @1:56 which is definitely not on the album version. But it DOES sound like a studio performance and not "live" at all.
Rick Wakeman actually plays the piano in this recording; Elton John is only MIMING (as the rest of them are) the piano for this UKTV Xmas Special. Bolan admitted he basically ripped off the riff to Little Queenie and even sings 'meanwhile I was still thinking' at the end. The drummer Bill Legend is now a devout Christian and plays drums in his church band!
@KJmoped1972: By ALL MEANS, if you haven't already, GET the absolutely glorious T. Rex album Electric Warrior, which includes this song. The whole album is an absolute groove. @phboba I would also love to see her nowadays (Well, I would have died for dating her those days..particularly hard being five in 1971, snifff ) She´s extremely cute...Probably Marc was luckier and enjoyed his short life to the limit.
@alexdarty: You know how Butt-Head said while watching the Ramones' version of "Substitute," "Cause he's Lemmy, he can walk into any damn video he wants?" Same goes for Elton John.

Everything about this song is subtle brilliance. Steady rockabilly beat, synchopated guitar licks and percussion, eerie organ on the chorus, not to mention Mark's sexy vocals. Rock at it's greatest.
Could any guy wear pink trousers and look so gorgeous???? Love and miss you my baby. Gxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Mark Bolan was straight and put on glitter that his girlfriend had. He basically created the Glam Rock era! Even David Bowie wore makeup! Grow up homophobes! It'S 2011!
Glam rock was actually originated in New York by Lou Reed. It was copied by David Bowie who produced Lou's Transformer album in late 1971. He bought it back to the UK and it was ripped off by Marc Bolan.
He chnged the name of Tyrannosaurus REx to T REX and , John Peel who had discovered them, was so disgusted that he never spoke to Bolan again Even this song was a rip off of a Lou Reed track called Wagon Wheel
@hoonies81 Check your facts. Bowie's Space Oddity came out in 1969 under the title Man Of Words/Man Of Music. However you are right - All these people were connected. Bowie spent a lot of time with Marc Bolan. And when you consider that both Mick Ronson and Marc Bolan died so young, it's amazing that Bowie is still alive.
Electric Warrior - from where this track comes - was recorded early to mid-71, so if Reed's Transformer was done in late 71 how could Bolan have been influenced by it? And John Peel was a prat who seemed to resent anyone becoming successful. He fell out with Jethro Tull when they got in the charts too, having supported them previously. Who cares what Peel thought anyway, he was just a DJ who played records. One musician making good music is worth a thousand Peels!
Cracks me up Elton John on piano! Little did they know that Elton would soon skyrocket to superstardom with countless hits and this would be a footnote in rock history that he played piano in T-Rex on that groups only big hit!

Of course, this video makes it easy to think that Elton John started as a member of T. Rex, which was not the case, he's "only" guesting here.
