  • i only saw her twice, once in 2004, when i was just a little little kid, and i chased her in 2008 when i really was starting my railroading videos. I have a chase on my YT account.

  • 261 is not retired. She has been sold to be rebuilt.

  • She will be remembered as the greatest Northern loco ever.

  • Comment removed

  • Its great 261 will be back in action since the crew bought her back.

  • @The3751FAN they did good for the crew show the museum whos boss,

  • Damn....that sucks, I love 261. This shows you how bad fuel and matience costs are getting. I'm thinking, could you go from oil-burning to natural-gas burning?

  • Welcome back, 261!!!! May your fire always be hot and the rails be smooth!

  • Great tribute to a great locomotive Brandon. well done, at least we can all celebrate the news of 261 now being owned by the crew. I'll be coming out there to see the 261 in action for sure some day.

  • It seems all of the Great Steam Locomotives are going down First it was 611 and 1218 i belive and now this And what ever happened to ATSF? Did it go down?

  • @MasterNinjaDM in answer to your ATSF question, there are 3 operational ATSF steamer's, they are 4-8-4 3751 Northern in Los Angeles, 4-6-2 Pacific 3415 owned and operated by the Abilene and Smokey Valley railroad in Kansas, and 4-6-2 Pacific 1316 owned and operated by the Texas State railroad.

  • Well I guess we are going to have to take this video off now. I am so happy that 261 is in good hands know...

  • I appologize for the swearing ladies and gentlemen, I think Jack Daniels had something to do with it, HAHAH. FO 261 is a first class operation in my books I hope something can be worked out with the new owner of 261 or Steve and the crew could find a new ride. best of luck FO261 and god bless

  • Tinman3804, The Milwaukee Road donated 261 to the N.R.M., so the NRM is the owner of the locomotive.

  • No, They can't stop now, they should do a final run, like when 1522 was retired.

  • We already did with her! We went from Minneapolis down to La Crosse WI on the CP River Sub and then back to Minneapolis on the BNSF St Croix Sub! We are not sure of the future of Milwaukee Road 261 but what ever comes of it will hopefuly not be the end but who knows now what will happen.

  • @Conductor261 great video I miss 261 Steve let me do a cab ride out of Deluth once for several good miles of mainline running one of my most Memrable steam engine cab rides other than CP 2816 when I rode the cab over the "Big Hill" between Lake Louise Alberta and Field BC

  • @Conductor261 i think its comming back in 2013

  • Brings a tear the the eye....NRM are a brunch of greedy cocksuckers that don't even have the stones to tell the public the truth....GREEDY FUCKIN BASTARDS...FUCK YOU NRM!

  • Oh yeah i forgot, it will be on display. At least she won't rust and i hope she will still look good.

  • What a grand tribute to the "Midwest Star".

Ashame all the years of fine excursions from states as far west as Montana and as far east as New York.

But Steave Sandberg with the Freinds Of 261, made it a grand 15 years.

261 done her job,but it'll be ashame seeing her going in the barn again.

Unfortunantly with N.R.M.'s unresonable lease agreement I doubt anyone would take use of 261 again.

Hopefully 261 gets a grand display at N.R.M. , and Steave and his team finds a substitue.

    Regards (;

  • :( Really was hoping to see this engine one day. Well, there goes another steamer. Probably will end up rusting away on the deadline.

  • 1. My godfather is the main fireman on the train so he's terribly depressed!

    2. I really agree with you too, but I'm excited to see it back here where I live in Green Bay WI. so I (and my godfather) can see it over and over.

  • what a beautiful engine. sooo shiney and amazing, so sad to see her go though. I may have to buy and HO version

  • The sad thing is that this engine was DONATED to the NRM... How the hell can they charge you for something that was donated!!!! I understand that they may have done some cosmetic work on her before the friends of 261 got her in 1993. But that is still not right to gouge the friend and take something away from the American public. Well hopefully the rumor I hear is that they are going to try and get 265 or some Hudson class engine . If the get 265 I hope they buy it not lease it...

  • Man, what a shame. I caught the AMTK 198 earlier in june on the Chief, and it still had the patch from its excursion with 261. A few days later when I saw it again, the LA crews had taken it off. Thanks for the well put together video.

  • thats not what i hear

word has it, she is still going to run....at least we all hope

  • The Museum wants to run it but Question is WHERE the HELL are they going to get the money 2. Where are they going to get some one to run her when they wouldnt let us run her and 3. Where are they going to run her?? Thoes are all questions that I have for the Damn Museum!

  • All the museum wants is Money Money Money they dont care about the railfan public and what we have to say or even our crew! I WILL NEVER and repeate NEVER go to that musem!!!

  • @Conductor261 Thats the problem with this country, it's not the government, it fcking big business controling this country and the government. It's all about profit and how much they can save, Just look at the oil spill in the gulf.

  • "WHERE the HELL are they going to get the money??" There will be some double-crossing rail-fans that will donate large sums of money, that's where..."and where are they going to run her?" They will probably send her to China to make even more money...

  • Figures Green bay would try to shortcut their own pitiful sales byt trying to make too much on a loco they had nothing good to do with. Well, unfortunately, I only got to see 261 once at Galesburg, I did ride in the dome and skytop when the 2861 hudson pulled a year or two ago. Well, when in doubt, 263 at IRM would look beautiful on the rails. If not that, there are several other Northern class locos to choose from. Including a BN northern in Colorado, as a rumor I heard.

  • NOOOOOO!!!! What is wrong with you people? BRING MILW #261 BACK ON THE RAILS RIGHT NOW!

  • Tell the NRM 736berkshire says, "GO FUCK YOURSELVES!"

  • cool man.

glad to have some ppl who care about the 261!

  • It sure is sad to see a great engine like 261 be placed back on display.

  • CO2 emissions must go.

All that was okay is bad. Just keep telling yourselves that and maybe history will repair the making of this great nation.

  • Moving the 261 to a museum are 3 words I have to say.

  • HIGH TECH SHIT!!!

  • i hope she keeps on living.... cause she runs right past my house...

  • As negotiations with the NRM have not been concluded, your comments regarding 261's return to the NRM are WRONG.

  • Im not saying it IS DONE Im saying that it might be Ya by the video description I put up it did sound like it was its last so I changed it up a little. But as of right now it sounds like she is done.

  • Hey Guys I have a better video that I plain on putting up but First off I need permission from Steve becuase it has shop video in of the Last few moments of her under steam and them shutting her down for the Last time! It also shows Steve walking out of the cab for the Last time while she was under steam.

  • Thanks to everybody whose helped that engine in the past 17 years!!

  • is this the whistle that she had when she was 1st entered into service after being built in ALCO?

  • You mean For ALCO or American Locomotive Co. Ya the whistle of her pulling the freight was her original whistle. The other one that she usualy would use was a Santa Fe 6 Chime whistle.

  • lol

I have finally heard her original whistle

  • Awesome

  • WOW! Great job Brandon!

    Alex
