"Coffee" in this context seems to indicate he was referring to a large, high quality book with photos that is found in some homes on a coffee-table. Coffee tables used to be very common in middle-class home in the USA and perhaps other western countries. Just trying to be helpful, not start an argument :-))

Dude it's definately copy book, not coffee book. It's a well used phrase by commentators in NZ rugby. Usually they say copy book tackle, ie. a good tackle - how they're taught to do it. Of course people have books on their coffee tables in NZ too, but not for stuff like this!
