select the object you want to make a symbol, then press f8. A menu will pop up, and it'll give you an option of three symbol types. Choose graphic.

Arg, when I export to an avi the movie clip doesn't play, it just stays on the first frame while the camera moves, but it shows it in the preview! How do I fix this?

this is how to do: first make the bakgrund to a grapic symbole, then make the animation. then put all layers in the folder and you are done!

Is there a way to make this work for movie clips? I mean my symbol is a 'motion-tweened' movie clip and when i export the movie, it's one image moving from one side to the other but no animation of it. is there a way to fix that problem?

It's an awesome tutorial but i wish i had seen it sooner cuz i figured it out now but i dont use the graphic symbol type also what i do is keep the charecter in the center of the anim and turns out pretty cool
