@Back4More42 Clear in the area is right but coming into PWK from the east u sometimes get dropped to 5000ft. or below 50+ miles out depinding on Ohare config. And there was alot of clouds east of the airport perfect iceing conditions.

no sign of fire, so running of fuel is one possibility, ice on the wings or control surfaces is another

very true. when I was studying to get my private pilot's license the instructor asked me what is the most common reason an engine stops in flight. I said lack of oil? The engine ceized up? He said Nope - it runs out of fuel. As difficult as this is to believe for seasoned pilots, it happens all the time. And as you say, Icing not removed on short final could also cause this tradegedy.
