It actually is pronounced "name" in the english way. It's written with the characters Ne and Mu making the word Neemu (said like "Neigh-moo" with a de-emphasis on the u in mu) which is a japanese approximation of the english word. I just noticed pleochroic said the same thing 10 posts under me. :P go upvote him so we can pronounce this word together!
haha this was a great help, im finna start my manag project of my own, i been doing for sometime but i like the doing names first method idea :) maybe it'll help
wait a sec. the writter (ohba) does the first name then the artist(obata) do another name to show it to his editor or he just show the manuscript sketch?
the pronunciation is not "nah-meh", "or "nee-mu", but "nehm". it's spelled ネーム, and the final -u is almost completely dropped (which is common in spoken japanese). if you listen to the anime for bakuman in the original, you can hear it well.
@cocoman896 man, i had this dream of making something that could reach death note's quality in plot&drawings stuck to me since i saw it for the first time (i found nothing that could stand on even ground with it) so i finally came up with a great story last month &im now watching bakuman right now so i am in a good way to start making it into a manga, but i would like to know what should i do from somebody who looks to know his stuff cause although i draw much this is my first manga!
@cocoman896 btw im making it alone... no experience and no one to help! :P so i need some help from anybody... i feel that it's to ambitious for a start, but i also feel i can do it! so, at least could you tell me how to start?
ty for the help with names (read every bakuman chapter but still didn't understand what a name was lol). as usual, i always have a question, but sort of unrelated to this. i read somewhere that if you wanted to copyright your manga at an early age, you could just send the ideas through mail and mail it to yourself. for the ideas, are they mostly scripts and drawings, or is it either or?
@DChosenOneD Yes that works. You would send you ideas, character designs, bios, etc and mail it to yourself. But dont open it when you get it back or it will void the copyright. You do not have to send the script.
ideas cannot be copyrighted. you have to have actual drawings. and no, you don't need to mail them to yourself; your copyright is established automatically, by drawing your concept on paper or computer.
if you want to mail it to yourself so you can prove you had the exact concept before somebody else, and they ripped you off -- i wouldn't bother. pro mangaka don't rip off beginners, and are you actually gonna sue another beginner who steals your stuff? not gonna happen.
@BlackRose2354 Thats fine because as you can see, Tsugumi Obha had to make details on the names because he needed to get the point across like in the manga. He needed the artist to show like how much Miho sparkled on the panel where Miho gets near the gates to talk to Moritaka. So its no problem at all. Guess thats just what happens lol.
So a "name" is basically a quick sketch of what the final product or page is going to look like then yes?
