  • I think your grandfather still loves this song!

  • Great vid!!! still shiverin´ from this one... keep playin´ time and time again... sooo full of epic...

  • Thank you for posting this. When I was a child it was my favourite cowboy song. Thanks to this posting I now know who sang it.

  • The chills down my spine!!!

  • pukipu muito obrigado pelo video eu gosto muito

    comprimentos da Belgica

  • Boa arte nunca envelhece.

  • Dave here. First heard Vaughn Monroe sing this song on channel 10, then called, WCAU-TV in Phila., PA in the spring &summer of 1950 in the background of the Ghostrider Show, an afternoon kids' show featuring western movies and introduced by a "cowboy" in black, masked as Eastwood is shaded in this video.

  • @Myrtle791 some ten years later, but exactly same memory - in the north country

  • At last! A decent melody, & clear words: and what makes it so, is someone who can at least sing it with expression and feeling & make it sound believeable!

  • the gentle man of hollywood, thay don't make em like that anymore

  • A moment of American purity, so to speak.

    So glad....God Bless VM.

  • American purity is an oxymoron, always has been.

  • Clint of course looks damn sexy, but even the red-eyed cows look good in this one. And Vaughn Monroe voice is perfect - he sounds like he really means it.

  • i heard one by scatman crothers too, i ilke em both :)

  • someone shold make a montage of this song with any Eastwood western movie, prefferable "A Fistful of Dollars".

  • It just doesn't get any better. Yippie Yi Yooooooo.

  • A number one hit in the fifties. This is Vaughn Monroe's signature song.

  • It's many years since I heard this version - brilliant!!

  • Thank you for posting this. I also think it is brilliant. The BEST version of this song and there are some other very good ones but this is the best of the lot.

  • " BRILLIANT "

  • Was John Travolta in this video?I only saw Clint Eastwood!

  • That's who I saw, Clint Eastwood.

  • Superbly done and Vaughn Monroe's great voice

my Dad loves this song thank you .

  • the best of the best of all the versions

  • Oh mah God! Itttss John Travolta! John Travolta!

  • Marty Robbins did it way better!

  • scary !!!

  • Super job on this video! You have done your Grandfather a great honor!

    Thanks!

  • the very best version, I have heard them all and I love Vaugh's the best.I am 62 years old and I have listen to most of Vaun's soungs and I love them all. He had the most viseral voice and enucation, May GOD bless him and love him as I do.

    Beachboyrohan

  • What a great job you've done with this fantastic song. One of the best I've seen. I'm sure my father is looking down from heaven smiling. It really brings back fond memories. Thanks

  • My dad and I, who always fought, could at least agree on Vaughn Monroe. Ghost Riders was always my favorite, while he, surprisingly, leaned toward Dance Ballerina Dance.

  • For myself this is the only version of Ghost Riders. It brings back my best memories of growing up in the forties and fifties and always a lump in my throat and fullness in my chest.

I listened to Johnny Cash, The Blues Brothers, Frankie Lane and Elvis today. The Blues Brothers were the only ones who came close. I wonder if Tex Ritter recorded it?

  • Fantastic rendition of this great song that I so loved in my youth, and still do.

Well done, well done, and thanks.

    jplot1

  • They are playing in D flat minor, right?

  • i like the purple buffalos :) Great song!

  • There is a message to this song.....

  • The first time I heard this I was a kid as I watched Vaughn Monroe sing it on the Kraft Music Hall. It was a simpler time but the quality of his voice and how it so matched the song made it memorable. Thanks for posting. Great song but more a great tribute.

  • The list of those who recorded this song is endless, including: Outlaws, Ramrods, Susan Christie, Frankie Laine, Kay Starr, Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, Duane Eddy, Shadows, etc. But, in my opinion this 1949 version is still the best. The flip side of the original RCA Victor recording was "Single Saddle."

  • WONDERFUL!!! As Pedro Vargas in Spanish!!!

  • Beautiful!

  • This was the first 78 record I ever bought and I wore it out. I was 15 at the time and now I am 76 and it is still one of my very favorites.

    ramblinrek

  • ¡BRAVO!

  • Great song and a beautiful tribute.

This is the first time I hear this version and I like it very much. Previously I'd heard Johnny Cash's version which I also like a lot. Curious to hear your thoughts on the Cash-version.

  • What a lovely thing to do in memory of your grandfather, great video.

  • It makes me cry....so good!

  • the video where's that from? the man with no name cept maybe blondie is in it. Pretty Cool.

  • cool ghost rider movie is great love this version

  • This is Great! I adore the Blues Brothers, not just because they can pull anything off n do the music justice.. but because they are so about the music that I get to know music better through them.. Vaughn Monroe, Elmore James, etc... so many more

  • I love this song. Can anyone show me how to download this song (without the video) to my PC so that I can upload it to my Handphone. Thanks.

  • Good Luck.

  • Vaughn Monroe sang the original and my favorite version.

The video retains the original mood and is carefully and briliantly done. Thank you.

  • I LOVE BLUES BROTHERS

  • The best, no doubt - RIP yer grandad, pikipu

  • Easily the best version of Ghost riders.

    Excellent vid too.

Many thanks. I have this version on a cd of the western golden era.

  • It was also the best-selling version. Recorded on March 14, 1949 and released by RCA Victor Records, first appeared on the Billboard charts April 15, 1949, stayed on the charts for 22 weeks and peaked at position Number 1. The song was written by Stan Jones :)

  • awesome song, love it

  • Superb Clip - Well Done.

  • Dieses Video spricht mir aus der Seele! 5+ und favo!!

  • this is the best song ever

  • Thats some cool video!!!So clever...

  • you are the one yessssssssss

  • Great visualisation of a great ol' Western song!

  • Excellent video. You are very talented.

  • lmao clint eastwood?!!

  • He's the man! He is the only cowboy!

  • My dad used to play this song.

  • That was good nostalgic fun! Thanks to the one who made it. And thanks to myrddin6 for sharing it. :)

  • Only Vaughn Monroe could do this song the way it was meant tobe performed!!!

  • As the riders loped on by him, he heard one call his name

"If you want to save your soul from hell a riding on our range

Then cowboy change your ways today, or with us you will ride

Tryin' to catch the devil's herd, across these endless skies"

Yipie i-oh, yipie i-ay! Ghost riders in the sky

    Ghost riders in the sky

    Ghost riders in the sky

  • Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred their shirts all soaked with sweat

They're ridin' hard to catch that herd, but they ain't caught 'em yet'

'Cause they've got to ride forever on that range up in the sky

On horses snorting fire, as they ride on, hear their cry

Yipie i-oh, yipie i-ay! Ghost riders in the sky

  • An old cowboy went ridin' out one dark and windy day

Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way

When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw

Plowin' through the ragged skies, and up a cloudy draw

Their brands were still on fire, and their hooves were made of steel

Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel

A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky

For he saw the riders comin' hard, and he heard their mournful cry

  • komo me enkanta sta kancion

  • this beats the hell out of the johhny cash video version...johnny used the word cowboy instead of cowpoke...and...to show my age...this was the first 45rpm record i ever owned...lol

  • That's fantastic, mate

  • never met my grandpa (he died before I was born) but my dad thought he was great and said this was his favorite artist and favorite song! (along with dance ballerina dance!)

  • There is also a Spike Jones version. At the beginning, the guitars strum, and the guitars strum, and the guitars strum. Finally somebody says "When do we come in?" Another voice says "On this song, it doesn't make any difference." Can anybody find that one and post it?

  • I was around when this song came out on a 78 rpm record. No we didn't buy it. No money. Had a radio though. Vaughn Monroe made it popular & a big hit in 1949. He was not the first to record it though. Frankie Lane came out with a big western hit - Mule Train also in 1949 & was a huge hit for him. Frankie's rendition of "Riders In The Sky" was never in the same category as Vaughn Monroe's version. Vaughn - deep voice. Frankie - more tenor. Both were fantastic singers though in my opinion.

  • your right my friend his is the best version period. To bad he smoked lucky's like they were going out of style. He died of cancer...

  • This is great

  • This is great!!! Thanks for the vid! Everybody talkin' 'bout Frankie Laine and Vaughn Monroe, but I'm telling you - my daddy sings it best. This takes me back to campfires and clouds rolling over the moonlight and my dad, belting out this song; and little kids burrowing their heads into their moms' stomachs...and the wind thrashing through the woods and rolling across the lake...YIPPEEEIIAYYEEE YIPPEEEYIIOOOOOOOO. Thanks again

  • I've always thought Vaughn Monroe was a better baritone than Nelson Eddy ever could be. Eddy was much too over-rated. Monroe was the profounder voice by far. He'd have been great in opera had he chosen to go that route.

  • Great song. Too bad this was before people figured out how to make quality recordings.

    Bodom's version is cool too.

  • Sweet Clint Eastwood!!!!!

  • pukipu great song only Vaughn Monroe & Frankie Laine do it justice

  • In my opinion not as good as Frankie Laine, but still a great vocalist. A wonderful song

  • i like all the versions lol. but im modern guy so i lean toward children of bodom's version. but his is pretty damn good.

  • Superb song - and Vaughn Monroe's is by far the best version. Superb singing, and the background choir and orchestral colour is wonderfully evocative. Also wonderful deep throbbing rhythm from the guitars, etc. As for the clip, excellent! Well done - great to see a clip which goes so well with the song.

Thanks so much for posting this!!

  • To me, this version ist better than Johnny Cash`s.

  • WOW this brings chills every time I hear it! (and tears; my father is on trumpet).

A song with a message, eh? Gracias, pukipu.

  • So many memories of men in my life that looked like these cowboys. Tall, thin, lanky, hats. I mean uncles, friends, and they had deathly looks sometimes. They are mostly all gone now. Awsesome song and video.

  • Excellent presentation of one of my favorite songs. Thanks.

  • thats why cowboys are now forbidden to smoke weed....

  • When this music video was made?

  • Johnny cash version was better, This is also good.

  • OTIMO MUITO BOM

  • IT'S ROWDY YATES!

    RAWHIDE!

  • This video (and song) was awesome!

The vid is creepy though. Which is good =]

  • NICE SONG NICE VIDEO!

  • This is awesome! I want it on my i-pod!

  • pretty good clip

  • Boi Rulez!!!!

  • Just. Wow.

  • Wish this song ended in a minor key.

  • very nice song!!

  • Scary Video! Great song. There are many good versions of this song.

  • I´ve listened to many versions of this song, but IMO this is definitly the best!!!

    Great video too!

  • Great effort on the graphics for a great song. But the best version I ever heard was done by Lorne Greene many hears ago. But this does not detract from Monroes's smooth voice but the song needed more guts as it is supposed to be a bit scary.

  • haha johnny cash's was lot more better

  • Thanks for posting this vid.

  • buen trabajo! es muy interesante!(please reply in english).

  • The original;and still the best!

  • Makes me want to do a western get-up & practice quick draw...YEEEHAAAHHH!!!

  • this song is a fucking masterpiece...

  • Great Video. Vaughn Monroe's version is great.

Has anyone seen Johnny Cash sing this on the Muppet Show?

  • I had the same experience when I tried peyote. Wow, what a trip!

  • I like the video.

  • Your grandfather have an awesome taste!

  • Insanely cool--instant favorite

  • love the cows,

  • this video is full of class. great work!

  • The first version of this song that I ever heard, and still my favorite!

  • I am still in awe of this song and clint eastwood did good as well and the hair on the back of my neck is still standing this song is one of the best songs ever written

  • Very cool. I like the intermental version by Dick Dale aswell

  • omg this must be really old o.o

  • Excellent, your Grandfather is proud of you!

  • Despite not being a country fan, I love this song. It's a first rate example of americana mythos. In my book it rates along other american folklore like Moby Dick, Hiawatha, Ben Hur and Salomon Kane. Perhaps it's impact may be greater than I think, since this beautiful song is more accessible than the aforementioned literary works. (Being my humble opinion that Robert E Howard's Salomon Kane possesses literary quality)

  • yea thats Clint Eastwood

  • lame

  • Best version ever. Amazing video, as well.

  • this song always give me chills. never heard this version though, i like it

  • awsome video

  • This is an awsome video

  • Pretty neat video, also a nice mellow voice ... When was this made? Is the cowboy Clint EastWood? Maybe not; perhaps the Marlboro man..

  • Yep! That's Clint Eastwood. And Vaughn Monroes voice is awesome.

  • I need a "ghost" fix every once in awhile

  • What a voice!

  • Well Vaughn............you were a legend...

  • 100 of 10 just great :)

  • Awesome!!! western classic, fabulous voice.

  • This is a must see clasic. Great songs never get old.

  • amazing

  • Very Cool Video and that video is so amazing.

  • this is truly amazing, i have never seen anything like this. it's awsome of what 21st technology can do for entertainment

  • Very interesting :D Love it! But er- the bulls are traumatizing :S

  • I first heard this magic as a teenager

at a Carnival in England. I aint been the same since I succumbed to the spell of this number.

    Thanks for posting.

  • This is the way it should be done.

    Outstanding!!!

  • i love this song.

  • That is magnificent!!

  • Wow! I never expected to find this Vaughn Monroe song, and your kick-ass video, awesome.

Thank you for sharing your efforts and talent.

  • Ghost Riders was written in 1949 by Stan Jones, Vaughn Monroe did the original song, also, in 1949!

  • Thks for the info! I loved it the first time I heard it (1949) - to this day, I don't know which I like more - The Third Man Theme (also heard it 1949) or Ghost Riders In The Sky! I knew Vaughn Monroe sang it but I did run across a blurb stating "Ghost Riders...was an OLD American folk song..." Made me wonder if I'd missed something somewhere

  • hackberry, here;s the info on the composing of the song: (Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend" is a country and cowboy-style song. It was written on June 5, 1948 by Stan Jones, you can Google that info, too!

  • Thks Lloydhl - appreciate your prompt consideration to answer me.

  • 60 years later and it's still awesome in the classic version and Spiderbaits. Way different styles but good is good.

  • This is awsome! I love the song. How'd you make the animation? And the letters that were on fire? THIS IS AWSOME!!!!

  • Yippy kieya!!!

  • My History teacher sang this song in class today it was awesome
