  • so THIS is what the hell was on my window a few months ago, I thought I saw a freaky bat due to the lighting xD

  • they are so beautiful, i raised one two summers ago and they are absolutely gorgeous. you have a big male there! mine was female :)

  • We saw one of these one day during a summer program at an elementary school in 2000.

  • What does the cocoon of the polyphemus look like? I have a cocoon that I believe to be that and it has just begun to start moving inside the cocoon. It is very interesting.

  • @niedzielskis mine looked like a big bundle of brownish leaves lol she was so beautiful :')

  • I have a Polyphemus Moth in his/her cocoon right now! I think it'll winter over though. It's cocoon has gotten bigger though, it like, expanded. I'm so excited! Oh, I may be wrong, because I'm not very insect educated, but this moth looks female to me. :P I name my moth Bob!

  • @Bloodwar01 the one in the video is a male because of his huge antena, females have slender ones :)

  • very awesome..... i remember moths this big flying by when i used to take walks high in a forest... good times :D

  • Those of you that hate moths should know that they pollinate night blooming flowers. We need them.

Those feathery antennae are characteristic of males.

  • I found a polyphemus moth sitting in the middle of a street, evidently falling from a nearby tree, unknown as to what type. I got him into a cardboard moth, and he died. :(

  • I don't understand how someone could find this scary. Thank you vert much for posting this - BEST

  • Beautiful! wish we had them like that here :)

  • its horrible but extremely cool at the same time... its like a demon :D

  • you think demons are extremly cool... you freak lol

  • Moths/Butterflys... eww.. they are so scary!

  • Yosht has no appreciation for beauty. He's quite the specimen.

  • its a male

  • its also known as the king of moths

  • What the hell? Kill it!

  • Why should you kill this pretty animal, you EMPTY-HEAD!

  • Because it's too large to be allowed life.

These unco-ordinated bastards keep getting attracted to light for no apparent reason at all.

    They're butterfly's retard cousin.

  • That's stupid! the big ones are the prettiest! They are completely allowed to live! ....but are you?

  • I have a moth in my room this very moment. It's night time. It's summer. My room is warm, therefore, I opened my window. Mr. "I-Love-Light-Weeee!" saw my ajar window, said to himself, "I love light! Weeeee!" and stumbled into my room like your drunk uncle gate crashing your quiet family get-together.

  • What is the point? Why does he think he has right to accomodation in my space? Why does he keep flying into the light? Doesn't he know that he'll never actually reach it? Forget that for a second, perhaps this feathery bastard likes to hit his head on lightbulbs. Maybe he enjoys it? But, why should I let him? Does he contribute towards my electricity bill? No, therefore, he has no right to use my energy.

  • Therefore, I smack him with a magazine I happened to have nearby. He flies out of harm's way. Tell me, how is it that he has enough intelligence to block my super-accurate (I'm a super hero, btw) fist of fury, yet still be moronic enough to fly into it again. Logic states that you fly AWAY from the predator (me). Why fly back into me? What do I have that you want? Death? Do you want to die? Fine. I finally crush him with my hand. End of moth.

  • You're just another stupid boy who thinks it's cool to smash pretty insects.... I'm glad that I'm not a boy, you must be very tired of acting so stupid all the time!
